I've had this camera for about 34 days and the auto focus refuses to work on this thing!! I'm SO frustrated!!! Ever since I bought this new 70mm - 300mm G Nikon lens it's been acting up. I press the button to take a picture and it just goes in and out of focus and won't take the picture. It did this here and there but now I can't take ANY picture in auto focus mode. :( I am taking it back to the store tomorrow but I'm wondering if this is a big problem with this camera. No, I don't change lenses when the camera is on and yes, I made sure the thing was very clean but still, it won't work. If I get a new one and this one does the same thing, I'm apt to just go with a different brand! Well, just had to vent. I'll see what the store says about it tomorrow. My guess is, they'll ship it back to Nikon and I'll have to wait 6 whole weeks to get my new camera back!! :(

Hi Marsha,
I haven't got the D70 so I can't comment too much, however U.K Lady has & can probably give you more advice than me. From what I've heard though, I thought that the D70 was suposed to be very responsive! I have the Fuji S2 Pro & that drives me mad sometimes because it just takes ages to focus sometimes & in low light situations its even worse, plus I have battery issues with mine too, so I was thinking about the D70! Do you think its got something to do with your 70-300mm lens? Is the camera OK when your using a different lens?
Anyway goodluck Marsha, hope someone can comment more on this, I'll be interested to find out more too.
Emma. :)

Shouldnt have a problem with the AF .Sounds like it is trying to focus ,are you to close to the subject what's the minimum focus distance for your lens are you sticking to that .it wont focus if your below that .plus if the light is too low, do you have your rangefinder on .Your lens may not be as responsive as some of your other lenses what f stop is it?You may be expecting to quick a response.
That all said if you are still having problems with af on all your lenses then sounds like something is wrong ,it happens:(
Hope this helps ya

Yes, it's every lens I own. I have tried to focus on everything! Outside, inside, close, far away. I have changed the menu settings too and that didn't work. SIGH!! Sounds like it's off to the shop and get it recalibrated! It's just frustrating! I'm hoping when it's fixed this won't happen again. I LOVE this camera!! Too bad I only had it for such a short time. Back to my sony cybershot now :(
