I GOT MY DRIBBLEEEEEEEEEEEEE! I'm dribbling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, after saving for more than a year, I got my D Rebel last week! I am so freaking excited that I can serioiusly NOT SIT STILL~! I can't WAIT to get to come play with it a TON, and I can't wait to scrap with it!!!!!!! I am so excited - wow was it a bit freaky to say to the bank teller, "can I please have $1100 from my savings account?" (and that totally wiped me out!)!!!!!

So, I think I need a new lens for it, though, because I'm not totally delighted with crawling around on my belly to get close enough to get the shots I want....... Sigh. There's always something - I should have known....

Anybody have the D Rebel with an additional lens? Recommendations? Anyone? Anyone???

Congrats Suzanne, saw your post up at 2peas about it too & I commented there as well but just thought I'd share again in your excitement! I can't wait to see some of your beautiful images & it'll be great to have the Drebel especially when the baby comes, how long have you got before your due?

So excited for you Suz, does that mean we'll be seeing abit more of you in the photography sections, just a hunch I had, LOL!!!!!!! :)

Suzanne- how freaking cool! Im a little bit jealous but I will be getting my DRebel in the next few months! I just cant wait. I have heard that the kit lens is not that great. So I might buy the body and then get a different lens- but then WHAT DO I CHOSE???? There is so much out there! Off to reading websites I go!

Congrats on your new camera!

Woo Hoo!! Congrats!! how exciting...I know I was so excited when I got my Drebel i couln't stand it!!!

But I'm sorry I don't know much about the lenses...I borrow my sisters from her film rebel...and they are really great...but I'd like to get some of my own but don't have the time or $ to invest in that right now.

Aaaaaaaack! Yes! New lens. I think is a must. But to fork over another $500? Ummmmmmmmm.. Where do people GET this MONEY??? And good grief, it took me a year to do the research and decide on the drebel, now I gotta go learn all about lenses???????????????

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaak!

And I can't get a decent shot to save my life. I feel like a complete failure. I hate that! A camera is smarter than I am! OY!

Your by no means a failure Suz! I've seen some of your works & you certainly have a great eye for catching moments & thats great, you can always learn the technical stuff as you go along & gain more experience, but you can't learn to be creative!

I actually *LOVE* the lens that came on it... hmm... how odd. lol.

I use a 75-300 mm tele lens as well. Canon. It was $200 when I bought it 3 yrs ago (fit my film rebels), its now down to about $160.

What exactly are you looking for in your lens?

I want something that will get REALLY close from REALLY far (I'm lazy), and I want something that will open up the lens REALLY wide (big aperature)...........

How's that for specific?! LOL!. I'm liking it more, the more I use it, but it's taking some getting used-to after having a big-time zoom in my last camera......

Suzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz so excited for ya :D .
I think what Tina said about the 75-300m probably around an f2.8 is what your looking for ,not sure if you can add convertors on the end of the canons like the Nikons do to make them even longer, although digital does make your zoom reach longer anyway.I have a 80 - 200mm would like it a little bit longer but I really do love it .Just be careful with shake on the long lenses and you will get some vignette around the edges with the telephoto lenses.
Of course a really good portrait lens is the 50mm prime lense but no zoom best if your doing close up portraiture not to expensive.

For that Zoom, look on ebay or get saving girly :) the new ones dont always come cheap :(

Ooooooooooh, my UKLADY!!! I miss you!!! How the heck have you been???@!

Okay, would you believe that I didn't realize that it's the LENS that takes the picture (sorta)? I am such a freaking BLONDE that it's frigtning.... And I'm scared to bid on something this important without trying it......

So. Back to the piggy bank I go - I swear, I gotta quit discovering new ways to spend money.

Yippy, it is such a fun camera ! ! ! I just got mine a month ago. The best place to go is to the 2 Yahoo groups. Just search for the Canon Digital Rebel, there are 2 huge groups (each over 1000 members). The last 2 weeks they have been discussing this very topic. One group also has a wonderful weekly gallery called POTW, picture of the week.

I am lucky because my film camera is a Rebel so I already have some lenses.

Hi Suz!!

Congrats on your camera! I have a 75-300 lens and I hate it. My pictures just aren't sharp with that lens. I didn't notice how bad it was until I bought a new one. My favorite all around lens is the 28-135 lens. It's a bit pricey but well worth it. You can use it for so much and the zoom is pretty good. I think this is a very versatile lens and the pictures it takes are beautiful and sharp as can be. I think the aperture goes down to about 3.5 which is fine for portrait work. Check it out!

EEEEEEEEEEMMMMMMMMUUUUUURPPPPPPPPPHHHHHHH!!! I just saw a photo from you in the gallery!!!!!!!! GOTTA go see!!!!!!! HOW THE HECK HAVE YOU BEEN??? MAN, I was just thinking about you!!!!!!!! Giant hugs, girlie!!! THANKS for the lens suggestion - I am off to check it out -seriously!!

I have to admit that I'm somewhat tempted to chuck all this, and return the dribble for a Nikon 70whatever...... I have several old lenses from my grandfather's Nikon SLR - they're pretty old, but I keep wondering if they'd fit the D70..... ACKKKKKKKK!
