If you see a mistake in a posted layout is it proper to let them know? And if so, what is the best way to do it?

I know if I had a mistake I would want to know - in a private message or an email. What is everyone's thoughts on this?

Oh please do tell!! It doesn't really matter to me how...I'm usually hurried when I do the journaling cuz I do it last and just want to post the layout....and I am terrible at re-reading things. :p

I dont have a problem with people letting me know about a spelling mistake. Im horrible at proof reading before I post a LO so any and all comment and suggestions are welcomed. I also dont have a problem with it being said in the forum!

I usually let them know in a comment. I used to send PMs, but found most people were just mortified, like if I pulled her aside and whispered her fly was open. Even if they weren't embarrassed, doing it hush-hush like that always seemed to make such a big deal out of a typo.

If there are a lot of grammatical errors and misspellings and I know the person is a bit shy, I'll just PM. I let it go a lot, though, because I don't want the "snotty grammar princess" distinction!

but a nice comment with a "typo alert:" sandwiched between to good points is how I usually do it, and what I would prefer myself. How about everyone else? I've often wondered how best to go about it.

FWIW, Photoshop has a spell checker! When editing text, right click and choose Check Spelling. PSP doesn't seem to have one, and haven't looked in PSE yet. So at least the typos won't get through, though the grammar errors are harder to catch.

Also, if you go back to the original layout to correct the typos, you can resize and resave for the web again and upload the updated version by clicking Edit Photo and just uploading the new version from your hard drive.

Have fun! And great question!

By all means tell me!!!!!! I love the fact that people will point out errors in my layouts so I can correct BEFORE I print!!! I think in the comments right under the layout is highly appropriate.

Example: Great layout! Love the use of blah blah blah. Btw, the word supercalifrangilisticecspialidocious is misspelled!

Thanks Emma for telling us about spell checker in PS!

I agree, it's better to be told. I'm terrible at proof reading my LOs so a spell checker would be great. I don't think that Elements has one though (unless it's accessed differently from photoshop). What a shame :( .

LOL! Too funny :)

Actually, I came across a layout a few days ago with a typo in the title. It was a newer member, but I didn't say anything because I felt bad.

LOL this reminds me of a funny story - when I was doing kits for the summer vacation cd and Amanda said to me - you spelled Travelling wrong in every read me - you spelled it with 2 "l's"- and I said - but Amanda it DOES have 2 L's - and she said "No - it doesnt - it only has 1 L - so we both spell checked it - and we were both right - in English english it does have 2 l's but in American English it has 1 L - We all know about the obvious ones - colour and color etc but I never knew about the travelling- traveling thing!!!!!

Typos are one thing but some people spell things differently. Names are a good one like Keven, Kevan, and Kevin. On another site they kept telling me I was spelling Keven wrong but that is how my brother name is spelled. As a starting writer and having been a leader of a writing board there are lots of typos and that. The easiest way is just tell them. If they are a normal person they will thank you and move on if not its not your problem. I know that I have had a bunch of typos and hubby is good at catching them. On one page I had ment to put USAFA but it ended up as UAAFA so we all make them.

No matter what if your told you have a spelling mistake - you feel dilly! But i would rather know than go have it printed and give it away as a pressie - only to see a spelling mistake in the title! Then you feel even dillier!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got a fun little reminder from my sister that almost ALL my posts have typos, LOL! And in this thread I say, "Do tell!" Well, posts don't count! I have like 2000 of them, and participate in several email lists as well. Lots of speed typing, so I hope you don't think I'm an English idiot and forgive all my errors!

LOL, thanks a bunch, Jen!
