I had this posted under Paint Shop Pro, but I don't think that is visited quite as often........soooooooooo I'm moving it!

I have been downloading some very nice brushes from different sites, and I keep running into a problem. I use PSPX. I download the brushes into the My PSP Files folder called brushes. Then I open PSPX, and click on Import=>Custom Brush and then I browse to the folder and add them, when I click okay, it says the files already exist. When I select my Paintbrush in the tool bar and browse through my brushes THEY AREN'T there. What am I doing wrong. I download the brushes into their own folder in My PSP Files. It seems as if I don't do that and just pour them all into the one PSP brush file it works fine (but then I don't have all the designer info etc) Help!!!

ps. they are all .jbr extensions.

since they are all jbr extensions, then you must use the File>Import as you're doing. That'll convert them to the newer format: 2 files, one brushname.pspbrush and another brushname.pspscript

Make sure THOSE two files are in your MY PSP Files>Brushes folder.

If you download any .pspbrush or .pspscript brushes and try to import them, then you'll get that duplicate file error since they're already in the right format. In that case, when unzipping, just save to My PSP Files>Brushes and they'll show up in your brushes menu in alphabetical order

so, dunno if that helps. Make sure you have the 2 files in there so it'll work with JBR brushes, and don't try to import .pspbrush/.pspscript brushes since they're already compatible

Something I think I may know about, finally LOL....

First, when you download the brushes that you are going to import, download/unzip them into a temp folder - not directly into your psp brushes folder. Then, follow the instructions that Emma posted for the actual importing of the brushes. If you try to import a brush that you've already downloaded into your psp brush folder, you will run into the problem of them showing that they are already there even if you haven't imported them :( Then, once you've successfully completed the importing, you can delete them from your temp folder.

You can do this with any brush that is in the following formats: .abr (photoshop brush), .pspbrush (psp version 8+) and .jbr (older psp version 7).

Hope this helps!!!

Okay.......I'm a little confused (and sorry for my dim light) .... here's what I do step by step....let me know where I'm going wrong.

1) find brush online
2) download brush and any text doc or instructions into MyPSP Files=>Brushes folder (into a created folder with the name of the brush designer) -- sometimes these are .jbr and sometimes they are .pspbrush and .pspscript
3) open PSPX
4) click File=>Import=>Custom Brush (dialog box opens)
5) click Open (and browse MyPSP Files to the Brush folder and then the folder made for the designer's brushes)
6) Open that folder
7) highlight all brush files inside (sometimes .jbr sometimes .pspbrush and .pspscript)
8) the files show up in the open dialog box in PSPX
9) Click on Add All
10) .jbr's go just fine
11) anything with the .psp extension gives me the Already Exisits error

now I know from what Emma said, I don't have to physically import the .psp brushes, but they aren't there anywhere. I have gone through the File=>Preferences=>File Locations and made sure that the MyPSP Files folder is associated with Brushes (and clicked Enable Subfolder) and I can see the folders I create there..... but when I open PSPX, I thought it was supposed to automatically add the brushes that are .psp from MyPSP Files (Brushes) .......it is not doing that....the only brushes I can see and use are the .jbr's that I import.....

I know that was a waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too detailed explanation, but I must be going wrong somewhere in there..... help turn on my light! LOL!!!

Between importing your brushes and getting ready to use them are you closing out PSP then restarting PSP? This normally fixes the problem. I never just put my brushes in my brushes file. I always import them.

Also check your file locations. Sometimes I have noticed that PSP can lose the locations.

Yes JaLee. I have PSP closed before downloading the brushes. The file locations are showing to be correct. I guess I'm a little lost in the downloading process. I thought you download them to your MyPSP Files Brushes folder and then you import them from there when you open up PSP using Import Custom Brush. Like I said......not sure what I'm doing wrong.

This light is ON!!!! When downloading .psp brush files they DO NOT go into the MYPSP Files folder they go into a folder I make up (Downloaded brushes) and THEN I import them .... worked like a charm. Sound the alarm the light went on! Thanks you guys.

Glad you figured it out.

I normally have a folder on my desktop called sort. I download everything there. Then in that folder I have other folders and I presort them there then move them where they need to be with the exception of my brushes in which I import them then the ones that are in my sort folder after they are imported I delete them out of the sort folder as you don't need them anymore.
