Join Marcee Duggar and Stacey Jewell Stahl in creating a special album about a man or the men in your life. We are showcasing our first joint project, our Shabby Treasures mini album (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_33&products_id=2180) in this challenge and will have fun stuff for you along the way.
There are 13 png files in this mini, including a cover page, and the challenge for you is to find your favorite photos and do some meaningful journaling in a memory book about a special man or men in your life.
We will have gifts for you every two weeks if you attend our 30-minute chats on Tuesday night at 8:30 pm EST right before the Mission Possible Chat. And participating in this challenge gets you entry into the BIG mini album challenge going on at DSP through the end of May with bi-weekly drawings and a BIG $20 prize for the member with the most completed albums.
HERE'S A LINK TO THE FIRST FREEBIE PLOPPER: http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=83007&cat=744
Post your layout the mini album gallery by March 28 and I'll PM you a link to it. You must use our Shabby Treasures mini album or page kit(s) to receive the freebie.

When is the Men in My Life Challenge album due? With the others May 31?
Why I'm asking is I'm working on a different one that I want finished by 3/15.
Stacey Jewell Stahl

Maggie, it will go through the end of May too. Thanks for asking.

Oh my, I didn't even see this until today. I have the Shabby Treasures Mini Album and both page kits on my wish list and got the Shabby Treasures 2 kit with my coupon from NKOTB 3. Guess I will have to break down and get the Mini Kit because now I really NEED it to enter this challenge. And the bonus of getting some serious scrapping done. I like the different challenges because the motivation is very helpful. Beautiful kits; can't wait to get started!
Well, I didn't mean break down and get the kit like I didn't want to get it. Just trying find justification for having so many kits already that I need to work with. But, I know I will be putting this one to good use right away. ;)

Here are two completed pages for the "Men in my Life" challenge. They go together; that's why I'm posting them both. I have a few other pages completed and will get them up in a couple of days. This is a wonderful kit and it's perfect for all the old photos of my father. Thanks Stacey and Marcee!

Is it too late to get in on this? I'm digging all the layouts you guys are posting and LOVE the whole mini-album concept.
One more question: is my male chocolate lab fair game to include as one of the "men" in my life? :D

Hi Judyy:
The mini album just started this week so I'd say you have lots of time. You may use Shabby Treasures Kit one and two, and/or Shabby Treasures mini album. Just post your layout and join the chats. I think this is the proper advice, cheers,

Oh Stacey, you're not going to believe what I did! I was looking to the description of what the challenge was about...the man or men in your life. Notice I totally blocked the album name. I remembered you saying there was a matching kit. So idiot that I am, I go to the store look for boy albums and buy the Boy Brand kit and album. How I managed that I don't know. It was the only one I saw besides yours and I knew Marcee was in this! I feel like a total fool. LOL. So I'm in the store now buying the right album and kits, because it's by both of you not one of you and my short term memory is having problems at the moment....there goes the DSP budget. I told you I can't walk and chew gum at the same time. Oh boy, what a bean brain! Arrrgghhh. Does anybody else do this stuff or is it just me?

Wow, not sure if I'm posting links in the right place. I can't believe a whole lot more people aren't doing this album challenge. It is such a beautiful kit to work with. I know I am going to have to print out 4 or 5 copies of this album.
Here's one more page; just a couple to go on this album and then I need to start the Military one for my brother, same kit.

Marcee and I have another chat tomorrow. She's made a plopper as a freebie. I'll be PMing everyone who has done a layout(s) in the first two weeks with the plopper I made.
We are going to talk about engraving the glass and metals in the mini album for realism. And of course, we'll chat about the journaling! :)
Keep safe, Paula! I'm so glad you are doing great!

I WISH I had a laptop. Waiting for the prices of the new Mac laptops (with Intel proccessor chip) to go down in price (so prolly next birthday/Christmas 2007).
I am not on bedrest, though I was told to take it easy. LOL!
LOTS of tests these past weeks (pre-eclampsia, kidney stones, liver function, length of cervix, gallbladder, etc. etc.). Everything came out negative but the STRESS of thinking anything was wrong was enough to put me into pre-term labor. Today is my first "normal" day since this whole episode began. Just thankful that little baby has some more time to grow in there (and I have more time to prepare!!).
Thanks for asking.
BTW - those layouts in the gallery are FABULOUS! I am getting some great ideas for other pages (and might even have to redo this one)!!

I am so happy to hear this. I've been using an engraved metal style (I think I got it from DSP), but I haven't been very happy with how it looks. Don't know quite what I might be doing wrong. Anyway, I'm sure this chat will be great! Looking forward to it!

I want to jump in! I downloaded the kit a couple of weeks ago with the intention of making a mini album with all my dh's pictures from when he was a kid for his birthday in May. I was hoping to talk his mother into doing the journaling for me, so will this still count for the challenge? When do I need to have the first page posted by?

I just PMd everyone who had a layout in the Mini Album gallery using the mini or kits with the link to the first posting bonus. I also just uploaded an image to the Online Freebie Gallery of the plopper that Marcee made for the next bi-weekly posting bonus. You'll have til April 11 to post a layout to the Mini Album Gallery to receive her plopper.
AND . . . in case you posted to a personal album and not the Mini Album Gallery, would you please PM me and I'll send you the link to the first posting bonus.

my program (PSE) only lets me apply a drop shadow in one direction at a time. when I change direction it changes for all shadows...

yes, LaDonna

lauraloub says to (2006-3-28 20:49:25):
Right...PS only lets you do the drop in one direction as far as I can see.

Well, my mother in law agreed to help me with this project. I am so excited! I have 2 photos from when my dh was a kid at our house, and I touched them up, put them on a page and emailed them to her for some journaling. She is going to go through their family albums and select some pictures she thinks will be the most meaningful and write about them, then ship me the albums. This could be interesting to have 2 people working on an album together, especially when one of them has no clue about scrapping, but it should be fun. I might not be able to post any pages for a little while, but I'm sure you'll see me uploading like crazy by the end of the month

One thing is clear how much digital cameras have improved in the almost 9 yrs since I first met my partner our early photos are really terrible quality.

I need to come back to this forum when I get more time, read through all the posts and peek at all your layouts so far but was wondering if anyone would be so kind as to bring up to date on this challenge? I think I am understanding I need to purchase the Shabby Treasures kit and mini album to use with this challenge and have bi-weekly to post something from it to receive the bonus? Do I need to catch up? Is it just one layout bi-weekly that has been required? Any info to get me on track with this challenge very appreciated.

Kim, you can purchase any combination of the kit or mini that you like. The only requirement is that you use one of them. The challenge is to complete an album by May 31 and every two weeks Marcee and I give you another 8x8 plopper that coordinates with the kits and mini. You do not need to catch up. Take your time!

Wolfsub, the very first posting in this thread describes the challenge: to use our Shabby Treasures mini album to create a memory book with substantial journaling about The Men/Man in my Life. Thanks for seeking clarification. You have time to join us, as the challenge doesn't end until the end of May.

I had read the first post, had plenty of questions, came to the chat and got nothing from it. The first doesn't say anything about substantial journaling, and now that you mention, what do you consider substantial, it said use the shabby kit in order to get a bonus, I assumed it wasn't necessary since I believe I came in after that time frame so I wanted participate, because I love the idea of doing some layouts of the men in our lives. I still also had other questions that weren't clarified. What do you mean by album, how many sheets or layout constitutes an album, and when you say mini, what does it mean, what size must it be cropped...see where I'm going with this?
I'm not trying to be difficult in anyway, I'm fairly new to digital scrapbooking (well scrapbooking all together) and have only been doing this for less than a year. I so enjoy the challenges and want to learn and do my best so I can continue to learn and participate, but when I am unable to get some answers it makes it very hard to continue.

Wolfsub, the chat you joined was a very different one than normal. There was someone on who was acting as a moderator and causing all sorts of trouble. Usually it is NOT like that (in fact in my over a year here, that is the first time it ever happened). I tried to answer as many questions as I could while Stacey and Margie took care of the imposter. But you can ALWAYS ask questions here in the forums and get an answer. :D I do hope you won't give up on the challenge. :) HUGS!

Oh yes, I remember that chat, too! It was my first mini album chat as well. I can certainly see where you might have been confused. To participate in the "Men In My Life" mini album challenge you need to create your layouts with either the "Shabby Treasures Mini Album" or you can use one or both of the "Shabby Treasures" page kits. As for substantial journaling, since you haven't been here for very long you may not know that Stacey is the QUEEN of journaling, and she believes very strongly in including meaningful journaling in these albums. I don't mean to speak for her though, and I'm sure she can let you know what she is looking for. You might want to browse through the Mini Album Gallery (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=1915) to get an idea of what we have been doing.
If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask us. We'll try to help you out! Also, I believe the chat is tonite so hopefully we'll see you there. Now, I'm going to go look at what you posted. :)

Ok cool, glad to know that, so till May we will be scrapping with this kit? How many pages make an acceptable album? I do know you can do more if you wish but what's the minimum? Also what sizes are these pages scrapped?
I'll go take a look at the gallery after work today (yup at DSP when I should be working, lol).

Wolfsub, I apologize for the confusion at that chat. That was my first experience with a troll and I discovered later that he had been at a chat earlier that day too. He has been banned, however he sneaks back under another user name. It's unfortunate that people get their thrills this way.
The mini album is 8x8 and the number of pages is arbitary. Some people use a page, then mirror it for a two page spread. With a title page and 12 additional pages, this would mean 25 pages total. But everyone has different amounts of photos to scrap and rarely will two of these albums be the same number of pages. And actually, if you do mirror pages, you could put one on the left and one on the right - then reverse it for even more flexibility. Laura Lou has rotated some of the pages too. No worries on the number of pages, I just mention this to let you know the possibilities.
If you look in the mini album gallery, you'll see why I write "substantial journaling." Marcee and I designed each page to have plenty of room to journal. We decided to create this mini as a memory album. I've seen many pages using this mini album that are tender and heartfelt, and this was the goal.
Did I miss any questions? I'm sorry for the confusion - today I'm sporting an ear infection on top of my allergies and 6-day sinus infection - hence I'm not thinking too clearly. But I'll answer what I can. :)
Thanks again.

3Chickens - I think the 8x8 is only if you use the Mini-Album kit as that's the size of those pages. However, even using the mini-album, you could add a 2" extension to one side and get your 8X10.
Normally, I scrap 8x10 as well, but for the mini-albums, I like the smaller size - they are very handy to hold when printed out.

I can't wait to get started on this. My mil shipped off the albums a couple of days ago, so they should arrive Monday or Tuesday. Shipping albums is soooo scary. She said she put notes with the pictures she thought would be the most meaningful, so hopefully we can put together a really fun album. I'm also going to get it printed in a hardback book, so I have until the end of the month, then I have to send them off. I'm so excited because I know he's going to love this for his birthday.

My Daddy (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=90674&cat=500&ppuser=37155)
Daddy was a hard, emotional one to do. Sometimes it difficult to put how we feel into words.
All constructive criticsism is welcome. I would like for these layouts to be the best that they can be. Eventually, I want to print out the pages and put them into an album. That way when I get old and forget everything, I'll be able to open the album, read it, and remember what a great life I had, and the wonderful people that were a part of it.

3 chickens - that's exactly what you can do. A lot of times when I'm taking an 8x8 or 12x12 sketch and converting to 8x10, I center the sketch and add an inch top and bottom. But if it makes more sense in the scheme of things, you can add 2 inches to either the top or bottom. Ribbons also make great fillers in those areas or you can add a row of elements or more journaling room. There are lots of ways to make the extra area blend in.
Stacey changed the size of an album that she made with her Geometrix (?) mini-album. I think she extended her colorblocking. You might check with her.

Thanks Stacey, the plopper is great. Now I have three more pages up. How many pages make an album? Just kidding. But for the contest, how do you determine the number of albums? Is it by the albums used - i.e. number of separate kits used, or is it by the total number of little albums that we have made. I am not really expecting to have the time to complete a zillion albums, but I was actually reading the original post in this thread and I got curious. Always a dangerous thing, I know. Plus, as I have been working on the pages, I find that there may be three albums in the works just betwee my hubby and two sons. That doesn't even count how many albums one could make of my daughter if there was enough time.
Well, regardless, here are my most recent pages. They feature my son Ethan.

Hi Stacey,
Thanks for the wonderful feedback on my Ethan pages. I was beginning to think I would have to add apicture of my dog or something to get some "cheap" comments. ;-) Hard layouts to make comments on I think as they are not light-hearted.
Thanks for pointing out my fabulous typing. I hadn't noticed the sloppy hanging over stuff. Hard to keep track of everything even when the papers are already in place. Possibly harder this way because you are less aware of the page construction. I know I over-think it sometimes. If I don't repost the page, it is probably because I am working furiously to do "work".
Thanks for trusting me. I must have that "dear in the headlights" look about me, just like my DH. Which reminds me of a story I could add to this/his album. So I won't tell it here.
Everyone else is spot on. This is fun. Bittersweet memories aren't all that bad. Time creates perspective, and hopefully maturity and wisdom follow. And those memories trigger others not so bitter and so much sweeter. And that leads to another page and another page and... And I am having loads of fun like everyone else.

Father's Day is coming in June and I may have bitten off more than I can chew. I am making an album for my husband, father-in-law, and son for his first Father's Day. I am also trying to make an album for my daughter-in-law for her first Mother's Day. Also, I have two children with birthday's in June and July and at least one of them is getting an album. As you can see, I am really HOOKED on these mini albums. Stacey and Marcee have done all the work and it makes it so easy to put together a really meaningful gift. Thank you so much!

If I had the time, I would have rescanned the photo, but I want to get as many pages done as possibe while the mood and inspiration are with me. ;-)

My Link to "Men in My Life" challenge. I will be adding to it. I couldn't figure out how to keep the book in order. The book is being done to honor my brother who was murdered in 1999. He was a really special man to me and everyone who came in contact with him. There is so much of his story yet to tell.

Stacey, I just want you to know that you are the one who inspired me to do this mini album honoring my brother. I e-mailed you a few days ago asking about the bonus page that goes with this kit. You indicated I had to submit a page in the "Men in My Life challenge. Afterwards, I got busy. Thank you so much for getting me out of a scrapbook slump. :-). Thank you too for such a wonderful kit. I still have many pages to add to his book.
