I have been using CK Scrapbook Designer from Broderbund. It is great for making simple LOs and has some photo editing tools, but I am finding it a little limiting. There is no eraser tool and it can't support transparent files very well. I want to purchase a photo editing program, but I can't choose between PSE and PSP. (I get confused about the abbreviations. PSP is paint shop, right?) am taking a class on PSE but am a little overwhelmed. It seems great for photo editing but kind of complicated for creating LOs. I just saw an add for PaintShopPro for a great price, so I did a little research. The online demo looked a little more simple than Adobe but it seems to be able to do most of the same things. Does anyone have both and have any advice about which one you prefer? Thanks for directing me.

I have PSCS and PSP X. I tend to use PSCS for Photo Enhancements or Effects, theirs are a bit different. I use PSP X for layouts and love it. I find that it is easier than PSCS, I just don't have the time to unleash all that PSCS has to offer. I have enough trouble trying to figure out everything with PSP X.
Good luck.

I have used PSP for years and tried the trial version of PSE 3 last year. I found PSP to be easier to use, but I wasn't sure if it was familiar to me or if it really was easier to use. I know there are some things in PSE that are better for creating elements.

The two programs (PSP and PSE) are set up slightly differently. If one doesn't mesh with your scrapping style, perhaps the other does. I can follow tutorials in PSP, but I started with PS and I'm more comfortable with Adobe products.
Both PSP/PSE are great programs for scrapping. You might want to finish the PSE class and try a PSP class so you've got the same experience with both before you decide.
I have both PSPX and PSE3 and love them both. They have major strong points in slightly different areas, so I agree with Kristen- finish your course and maybe try the PSP one and see which you prefer. They're both great for most everything though, either one will do fine for you.
