In case you weren't aware, Simple Scrapbooks has extended the deadline for their next digital issue to April 26, 2004! You must send your layouts via the form on their website (don't email them, they say they get too much spam). Here's more info:

I have submitted 4 layouts, hoping to get some time to upload a few more! I've never tried this before so it's exciting even if I don't get picked!

stace.

I tried to submit to our crafting mags here but they are not interested in Digital scrapbooking.. Wish they would move with the times... One day perhaps...

The first time I was ever published was my first 12x12 layout EVER (I usually do 8.5x11). That was so funny to me. Lauren and I were talking about how the mags seem to pick the pages we don't feel show our best work. Funny how that happens. My point really is this: SUBMIT EVERYTHING and don't be shy about it! You never know what will be perfect for one of their projects!

I submitted for the first time ever too. Do they notify after the deadline, or it is ongoing as they are submitted?

Hi,
First of all ---CONGRATS... to all the peoeple involved in this new site---best wishes to everyone!!!!!!!!
I just entered my first contest---I think. For the April contest using Lauren Bavin's kit do you just upload it to the regular gallery? That is what I did so if I need to put it someplace else I will need to know where. Thanks.
Everyone is doing great work on their pages---so creative and inspiring.
Have a sparkling day,
Debby

Hi Debby! There is a special category in our gallery just for contests. Put your layout there!

Well, I FINALLY got around to submitting some layouts for publication: my first time ever! Sent in a bunch, the form was easy to use, and all I had to do was change the uploaded file, title, and description each time because all my personal info was already in the fields after the first typing. We'll see how it goes!

I have a question ladies ....

HOW DO YOU GET YOUR LAYOUTS SMALL ENOUGH TO SUBMIT!

I have a hard enough time getting them down to 125K for the gallery! And they want them 100K?

I will tell you what i am doing.

I reduced the size to 3.5 tall. 72 PPI. save as jpg quality 2(!!!) and my file is still 104!

HELP!!!

Thanks!

Mike

I just make the longest side 640 pixels, and 72 dpi, and have never had a problem. You can go down to 480 pixels if yours are still too large.

Adjust the compression to get it below 100K.

ok ... i must just be an idiot today!

i just adjusted the pixels too 600 on the longest side and lowered the sompression to 1 and my file is still 104k.

I think I'll scream now!

hmm, that is weird. I never adjust my jpeg quality that low, usually use about 5 or 6 for the web. You're sure you're at 72 dpi?

what program are you in? there are instructions at the end of each beginner tutorial under university, quick classes, that would help you resize them. in photoshop, i make mine 6" at 72ppi and then adjust the quality to make it under 100k. Ü

Can you submit LO's to the magazines if you have used other's elements? Do you just need to make sure and give credit for the elements and such?

Thanks!

Yes, just make sure and credit them :)

With PSP8 you can use "File, Export - JPG optimizer" which shows you what the size of the file will be - you can also view it while you choose so you can make sure colors aren't becoming distorted. Even my old PSP 5 allowed this in the options button when saving a file.

I think i will scream again!

no screaming! you'll wake the children... a cool tip i learned from a psper: take a screen shot of your layout and share that! so have it fill the screen in pse and take a screenshot. if you hit print screen on the keyboard, it'll copy it to the clipboard. then just do file new and paste. the size will probably default to what's on the clipboard. if not, just use 800x600 or whatever your screen's set at. but then you can crop down to just your page with the crop tool. and save that to share. should be a high quality example. you can also use an easy screen capture program like screen hunter (i love this) at www.wisdom-soft.com. not sure the trouble you're having with pse2 though. but here's a short term option maybe... Are you adjusting the compression down? Sometimes I have to do it down to like 3 or 4 to get it to be the right file size.

Mike the way I do it for posting here in the gallery is as follows (I'm at work so I can't give screenshots and this is from my memory):

First Save normally (so you don't loose anything if your computer screws up)

Secondly goto Save for web option under the File menu.

A screen will open and you will have two windows giving you two previews of your layout. On the right hand you will see a bunch of options. What you need to do is change it so the first drop down menu is set to medium jpg.

Then go down to where the size is in pixels there is a number (mine is around 3000 by 4000 or something to that effect) width by height.

Change the first box to somewhere around 900 pixels the other box should change proportionately. The key is to hit the apply button underneath it.

Once you hit apply the second preview screen underneath it will have a size for your somewhere generally around 100k-200k (when changed to somewhere aroundh 900 pixels wide) you can tweak the size by adjusting the pixels wide & pixels high and hitting apply to get as close to the 125k size allowed here at DSP.

If this is confusing and you would like screen shots & more detailed instructions let me know & I will do that once I get home.

Hope this helps!!!
