Greetings!

I do software development for a company that specializes in inexpensive (but good quality) downloadable software. Our products include calendar software, business card software and a few others of a graphical nature. We are researching new software projects, and my wife suggested I have a look at digital scrapbooking.

My first question is probably the most important one: Do you feel there is any room in the market for a good quality, $19.95 scrapbooking program?

My second question is, what would you feel are the essential elements for such a program? My list includes transparent PNG support, picture frame support, high DPI support, really good photo support, everything fully rotatable, transparency support for all items. What did I miss? :)

Finally, how important are included materials, such as fonts, clipart, papers etc? These all (a) cost a lot of money to produce and (b) really add to the download size (meaning it costs us a lot in bandwidth charges).

I do appreciate any responses, and I apologise if this is off-topic.

well the most often overlooked or left out option is DROP SHADOWS....i often find the more basic programs either don't have options for drop shadows or the options they do have aren't really very subtle...they are usually harsh and make things look like they are floating...digital scrapbooking really requires a softer more realistic shadow.

Hi elizabethlmccoy!

Absolutely right - I forgot to mention drop shadows. And I agree, they need to have settings for transparency, strength, color, depth, direction - etc. (I have some examples, but not sure of the rules for posting a link).

I also forgot to mention masks.
