I would like to know if it is possible to somehow get individual still photos from a
video from a cam corder.
I used my cam corder @ xmas and while reviewing the movie, i often seen parts that would have been great to scrap. Can this be done, and if so what program do I use?
Any help would be appreciated.

There are a lot of programs that will do this. Check the programs that came with your recorder. I've been using Pinnacle which allows me to edit and then save my video to DVD's or Cd's to watch on tv or save to sent to people over the net. With every editing program I've seen over the year's there is a capture button which allows you to save as jpg.

Do you have Windows xp? Windows movie maker has the ability to capture a pic from a movie. It's located just below and to the right of the black screen that shows your movie.

Improvements in technology are being made in leaps. There are lots of programs out there and new ones hitting the shelves every few months. Lots of trial programs to download. Often, your manuel suggests a program and often gives some discount or a download of a program that has lots to work with and if you like it you pay for the full version.

Make sure you have lots of memory and disk space. Defrag your hard drive often.

Hope this helps.

There are programs - and a cable to connect your camcorder or VCR to your computer. I know that the "Movie Maker" software in windows will capture a still shot, but not worthy of printing -- but others may. Hopefully someone knows of a way (I, too, am interested in capturing -- I'd like to capture some stills from old home movies that I've transferred to digital tape). I've tried taking photos of the movie screen and/or the monitor - but they didn't turn out well.

Thanx for the help ladies, I have tried movie maker, but I also found the quality not up to a good enough standard to print. I thought maybe I was doing something wrong. The software/cable that came with my recorder is to transfer from recorder to PC, but it transfers as complete movies (not as single stills).
Thanx for telling me about Pinnacle PICTUREMOM I think it may be just what I'm after. Good luck with your capturing PAM.Please let me know if you find an easy way to capturing as I am just a beginner (only got my recorder at xmas 2005) I need all the help I can get.

Thanx again

Remember digital video produces very small images compared with digital cameras. A US TV screen only has 525 lines down so any extracted images are normally only a couple of inches across at 200dpi.

When we bought our son a video cameral year before last for Christmas he was 13 at the time we got one that would also take still shots the thing is the quality is not great.
The videos are good just not the still pics.
