I am not a Costco member and have had to spend alot of time researching online to find places to have 12x12 layouts printed and mailed to my home.

I am listing the sites I found below. Please let me know if you have used any of these and how you felt about service, quality, price. I am ready to print out my work.

printmyscrapbook.com 12x12 $7.99
pephoto.com 12x12 $5.48
scrapbookpictures.com 12x12 $5.49

Anyone know of any others?
Thanks - Jennyrae

Jenny,

I've heard www.whcc.com tossed about a bit. I checked them out but haven't printed anything with them yet. They are a bit more than Costco, but use Kodak paper and they are a pro printer.

Hello,

I have been looking for the same thing. I don't want to invest in a printer, and just want to be able to upload from my computer and have the pages mailed to me. It seems surprisingly difficult to find info on how to do this.

In google searching, I found one site that seems to be offering printed 12x12 pages for $2 per page, much cheaper than the places you list, but I haven't tried them yet. It was: http://www.shinynickels.com/printyour.htm

I'm hoping others reply with their words of wisdom.

I have read that when you have shinynickels.com print your layouts it is more like a color copy (on a cardstock rather than photo paper). I haven't yet tried it myself. It may matter to you, or it may not. You might have them print just a few layouts to see if it works for you.

I was just about to post on this same topic. I have also heard that ShinyNickels does not have that great of quality. Here are sites I have found:
Photo Book Memories
Scrapbooks to Share

Scrapbooks to share offers free sample (free shipping for sample too!). I liked there quality but they typically print with a white border vs full bleed. I have emailed them to find out if they can delete the border but have not heard back yet. Also, they have the best price at $1.75- if they can just lose the border!
Have not tried any other sites so am curious to see what others have to say.

I just called Kinkos and Office Depot. Kinkos will print up to an 11 x 17 on glossy card stock for 2.98. Suggestion needed- if I am going to put this in a 12 x 12 scrapbook, should I make my layout 11 x 11, or does anyone have a better idea?

I think I have finally figured out how to print 12 x 12 borderless on my Epson 1280 that isn't supposed to be able to print this size borderless...I am so happy.

I still hae some problems with my color management, though for purples and blues so I too am looking into this.

I found Mpix.com and just received a free sample of their papers. a 12 x 12 print is listed around 5.50. the matte finish is like a typical matte photo finish. It's nice. The metallic paper looks really cool, though and may be neat for 12 x 12 layouts intended for framing. I may have to try it. I have not yet ordered a 12 x 12 layout through them.

I have not heard of the other sites mentioned. Sorry.

I just got back from Kinko's with my layouts printed. I sized them at 11x11 so they'd print on 11x17 paper. Their paper is 28lb acid free laser paper. I'm impressed with the print quality.

They had to resize my layouts to 10.75" x 10.75" because they can't print borderless. The person helping me suggested that if I want to, I can size my images to 11.75" x 11.75" and then tell them to print on their 12" x 18" paper which is also acid free. Then I can just put those in my 12x12 page protectors.

I paid 1.78US per 11x17 and he said that the 12x18 prints would be 2.99US.

I just found out about this new site AdoramaPix

Here is their price list:

Not sure if they're cheaper or not...but if you order 25 prints or more at a time for the 12x12 size the price drops $1

HI,
I use PSE 4.0. I size everything at 12 x 12 at 300 resolution. I use an Epson 1280 and tell it that I want to print using 13 x 19 paper, click on borderless and set it to Portrait (that's important.) Then when you can, turn off to center it and repostion it at 0 and 0 inches. I did have an 1/8th inch border on my last print, so tryin moving it down 1/8th inch. This may or may not work.

I hope that helps!

I just checked their website and it appeared that the price for 12x12 was 5.99 and dropped by a dollar with 25+ prints. That is still more than I paid for the site listed above but I wonder how their quality is.

Up to this point, I've been printing little 1.5x1.5 images from Ritz. I put 6 LOs on a 5x7 and then I cut them out onto magnet sheets and have started tiling my fridge. It's great because I can see every layout I have done every time I raid the fridge. There are a few I want to have printed as a 12x12 and I want photographic quality as they will be framed. I found 12x12 scrapbook frames at Michaels. I can print them at Ritz on larger paper and cut them to size. I haven't looked into the pricing yet but I suspect I can get same quality for cheaper elsewhere. One thing I have learned from printing at Ritz is that one should always request no colour correction, otherwise, the prints come out darker or lighter than designed. Does this happen at other locations? Is that an issue at some of these other places?

Does anyone in the UK have their 12*12 LOs printed - and if so, where would you recommened? I realise that we in the UK are outnumbered hugely in the digiscrapping world, but am hoping someone can help me!

I used Scrapbooks to Share for the first time last week. For 12 X 12 on cardstock it was $1.79 each and there is a $5.00 shipping fee. I sent 15 layouts at one time so shipping wasn't that big a deal. The results were great! Much better than Kinkos or Office Max. I like the softer finish this has instead of using photo paper. I had a few questions and the owner's were very prompt with replies and very helpful.

I designed my pages as 10.75 x 10.75 at 200 dpi with the idea that I would have Kinkos print them. I just looked at Scrapbooks to Share site. They want 300 dpi and can do 12 x 12 for a little less than kinkos will do 11 x 14- and then I would have to cut them
I'm using photoshop cs. Can I just go to image size and change to 12 x 12 - 300 dpi, without any negative effects on my images?

Thanks

Deenak1
05-03-2006, 09:50 PM
My latest layouts were only 200 dpi and I didn't have to do anything to them. They came out great. I haven't tried changing to a higher resolution, but I believe the computer just fills in extra pixels and you may not like the result. If you like photo like results, you would want to save at 300 dpi. I actually prefer to have a little 'softer' effect so 200 dpi is fine for what I am doing. Since you are not printing on photo paper I doubt you could tell much difference. Scrapbooks to Share does offer to print a sample page for you.

One problem I found with Kinkos is that the quality varied from store to store. Just depended on how well maintained their equipment was.
I'm no expert (big understatement . .LOL!) but I hope this information helps.

I have been very disappointed with Shiny Nickels. Not because of their quality, but because of their customer service. 9 of my 40 originals had an error to the printing...the black came out in a blue tone. I told them about it within days of receiving my order. Their website says satisfaction guaranteed, but I had my originals printed in February. It is now May and I haven't yet seen the replacement pictures.

They don't answer emails or phone calls promptly. They don't use an invoice system so theri billing is not clear. I just don't think this company is ready for prime time...though at $2.00 a print, I was ready to give them a chance.

I just ordered a free sample print from sbtoshare.com. I received three samples, Matt Glossy and Cardstock. The print was surprisingly good, I even framed it. It was done using toner based printing. After receiving my free sample I went ahead and ordered 12 more prints which I haven't gotten yet but after placing my order I got an e-mail confirmation letting me know that my order will be in the mail the following day. I'm looking foward to seeing them very soon. What is also wonderful about them is that Matt and glossy prints for a 12x12 is only $1.25 per print and Cardstock is $1.75 per print. Shipping and handling is $5.00. This is definately worth a look.

I sent 5 8x10's to white house custom color whcc.com, for test prints and got then back overnight air! This is a freebie for calibrating your monitor. I don't have a calibrator so i skipped that step. I am so very impressed with their pictures! They are much better than Wal-mart and Costco! Minimum order if $12 and shipping is free!

They were so good that I printed 100 5x7's for invitations at 35 cents a piece! Those took about a 3 days to get back. They only overnight the test prints or if you pay extra. They have glossy, matte, and metallic finishes and will even texture the paper for an additional fee.

For 12x12's they are $3.60 each. 7.20 for a 12x24 that you cut - perfect for doubles!

Please check them out. It makes me sad thinking of everyone out there going to kinkos or staples and paying those outragous prices for color copies! for just a bit more - or in some cases even less - you can get pro kodak paper prints!

You will NOT be disappointed!!!

whew!

I am new to digital scrapbooking, but am already loving the ease of it. I was however stumped on how to get them from my computer to my hands. Since I am a bit frugal I wasn't going to get into digital until I came upon your messages about scrapbooks to you. I live overseas with my hubby who is military, so I needed a less expensive company who would ship to my APO address. I can see how being a part of this group can help me get help on a variety of digital scrapbooking questions. Thanks to all.

Well, this is our second tour over here, and last time we were here it was really difficult. But, now most major chains like Walmart, Target etc. will ship here. And there is a company that you can have things shipped to that will ship to us. I haven't used it, but I know it exists. It isn't so bad, but we can't go hold and feel things before buying them, so that I really miss. Along with the clearance stuff you can only find in stores. :)

I found a great online printing place. It is called Pure Print Designs and their website is: http://www.pureprintdesigns.com. I have tried many of the online printers but I like them the best. Their pages are only $2.25 per page and their prints are beautiful. They only print on one kind of paper but it is very nice and perfect for my scrapbooks. I have been very pleased with them and would recommend them to anyone.

I saw a lot of people are making 8 x 8 layouts to be able to use the 12 x 12s templates and such that are so readily available. I don't remember what is available in the stores as far as books to put 8 x 8s in. Do places like Hobby Lobby and Michaels have 8 x 8 books that you just slide your finished sheets in? All of my paper scrapbooking is in 12 x 12. I have never printed and it does sound like this could get expensive fast. I will keep checking back for printing advice and prices everyone is finding. Thank you everyone for your help

RobinC, Yes, most crafts stores like Micheals and AC Moore now carry the 8x8 albums.

I have tried any of these services (I am preparing a price list for a class I am getting ready to teach on "Going Digital") but I found some other services you can check out that were not mentioned here: www.polkadotpotato.com ($3.50 for 12x12), memorymixer.com ($6.00 for 12x12) and scrapbooksplease.com (regularly $4.50 for 12x12 but on sale for 2.99).

Thanks for you help in finding other places to check out for my price list!

Hi Robyn,
I have used scrapbookstoshare for my 12 x 12 printing. They are 1.50 per sheet with a 6.95 shipping on the order no matter the size. They have matte and glossing. I thought the glossing would look too shiny but after comparing the matte and glossy I liked the glossy better. It wasn't nearly as shiny as I thought it would be and the colors seemed more vibrant. 3scrapateers has the same pricing and they are a very reputible site as well. I was extremly happy with my first pages that I had printed and I thought the cost was more than reasonable. I had my pages back in 2 business days which I thought remarkable. I save my pages up and send them off in groups to get more pages printed for the one shipping price. I had 18 pages done the first time. I am still working on the next set of pages. Hope this helps. ~ Wendy @ wendym_12972@yahoo.com

Viovio (http://www.viovio.com/?aff=5932) ships all over the world, don't see why shipping to base would be any different. They offer half a dozen square format size books, as well as 12x12 loose page printing.

Their prices are very affordable and they only charge exact shipping, plus there is an overseas super saver option that makes it about $5 to ship a single book.

I use the glossy 100 lb paper so it's $2 per page. I send them 12x12 layouts at 300 dpi and they resize them so they are just a smidge smaller, giving you the white border. The resize is proportional and I have never noticed any difference. I did a cost estimate last year comparing a 50 Page Shutterfly album vs. buying my own 12x12 album and page protectors and then using sbtoshare.com to print the pages and they were almost equivalent for a 50 page album. What I do like is that I can then have page protectors over my digital pages so I don't worry so much vs. a hard-bound book in which the pages are protected.

I've tried using Winkflash based on the feedback in this forum but my two emails have gone unanswered for a few weeks. I finally gave up. I selected a 12x12 album and uploaded pictures but once I put them into the layout, there's a ton of white space on either side and the top is chopped off.

I used them in July to print 69 pages when they had a sale on Standard Matte Prints for $.99 each. I'm very happy with my prints and they are full bleed. They also sent CD sized samples of each of their prints. I loved the Linen Print sample since the paper let you "feel" the layout. I have a feeling that I will use that one sometime for some very special prints. I will use them again but will probably wait for another sale. The shipping charges seemed high. But then I changed the shipping option from US Postal Service to FedEx Ground and the charges were cut in half.

I ordered the 2nd to last day of the sale on a Saturday and the prints were shipped on Friday. I had them the following Tuesday. I didn't feel that was too bad considering....

I had some layouts that were done in 300 resolution and a few in 200 resolution. I couldn't tell the difference when printed.

Well, after reading the reviews of Winkflash on both resellerratings.com and epinions.com I think I will stay away from them. Some people like them for basic prints...but the people that have any problems at all overwhelmingly criticize their terrible customer support. I am not sure I'd trust a company with that kind of approach with a photo book...but hope yours turns out okay!

With the difference in price you'd soon pay for the Costco membership ...

Am curious about the pro-photo-printing company mentioned earlier and found it interesting that Kinko's appears to have different pricing (based on the two posts for Kinkos). If they print 12x18 for $2.99 that WOULD be exciting (esp if its borderless!)

Has anyone orded the loose 12 x12 pages from viovio? If so, what is the paper quality?

I am thinking about going this route since I don't scrap chonologically and fear that if I order a hardbound book I'll realize I missed something.

Thanks! Lisa

Hi Lisa, I just got an order of 24 loose 12x 12 pages printed at Viovio and I have to say that I was disappointed but I guess it was my own fault. I had only ever had pages printed at Costco and they print on actual photo paper like regular pics and Viovio uses just regular paper. I guess I just wrongly assumed (you know how the saying goes about that) they would be printed on photo paper. I should have known by the price difference, I paid .85 per page at Viovio as opposed to 2.99 per page at Costco that it wouldn't be the same quality...I guess I just hoped I'd hit the jackpot. It only occurred to me after I had placed the order that I never did pick glossy or matte finish. HTH.

I have printed about 750 pages at SBTOshare.com (Scrapbooks to Share) they are fast, great on customer service and $1.50 per page. I zip mine into a file and send it that way rather than pape gy page. I have also now used Shutterfly.com to see what they send and it was great I think 1.99 a page but I may have had a coupon. I have also tried Viovio and their books are great. With my next order I will try the loose pages as I assume they will be great too.

So many options, so many pages to print. Save up and send them in in a group to save on postage. SBTOshare, chares 6.00 per order, 10 prints or 100 as I usually send......reminds me of another thing to put on my goals list. I have about 80 in my to be printed file. LOL

I know sbtoshare recommends 300dpi but I'm a 200 girl! Which do you use? Do you print at 12 x 12? Which paper do use use from sbtoshare? am I asking too many questions? should I stop now?? help! must start printing!!!!

I actually don't like it on photo paper, it is way too thick for an album over 25 pages. I like the magazine type pages because the pages are thinner and I can get more pages in my books. As they say, to each his own. The thing to do is decide what is more important to you....photo quality has nothing to do with paper thickness so check that out too. I do print at home on my Epson 1800 wide format when I need a page 'today' like for a gift but it uses so much ink and the epson 12 x 12 paper is very thick.

Never too many questions. My last mentee used to say I must be getting sick of her questions but how else do we learn right. Always feel free to PM me when you need an answer too. (if its off topic)

I have printed on each of the 3 types of paper they offer. They used to send a sample of each, check out theor site and see if they still do samples. I always print in 12 x 12 with them. The most expensive is the thickest. Lately, I print everything on the $1.50 paper because I am doing books for each of the girls but I save the PSD's and will redo it all into one BIG book (for me and DH)someday and may have to combind some pages.

On the subjct of 200 vs 300 ppi. I always for year resized the kit before I added my photos, one time I forgot and just sent it, they called and asked me if I really wanted it printed like that and I decided it would be a good test of 200 vs 300..... the kit peices looked fine but the photos looks "hazy" like slight blur. upsizing photos is hard.....most kits have a basic color hue and they upsize pretty well.

Hey everyone! I am pretty new to this whole world of digital scrap forums! How fun though! I wanted to mention that we have a website to print digital scrapbook pages. I see many places listed here and wanted to toss out there ours, fairly new to the market. We have a few kinks to work out on our site, but print excellent quality pages! We print 12x12, 9x9, 8x8 and 6x6 sizes. Our pages are lignin-free, acid free, bleed free and fade resistant. We print our 2 larger sizes for $3 a page (when ordering 10+). They are $4 for under 10 pages. Our smaller sizes are $2 per page (10+) and $3 for under 10 pages. We also offer to mail out free samples if you wanna see our quality first! Let us know! Visit us at www.pagestotreasure.com! We'd love to meet ya and hopefully be your source for preserving your digital scrapbook pages to treasure for generations to come!

Hi!
Hoping some of you can offer some advise. I use adoramapix to print my digital LO's and photos. I print on Lustre paper; quality pics is great, I love it and their prices are very competitive. However, I noticed that on my scrapbook pages, the colors come out very dark. The colors look great on my screen, but printed are dark. I ordered a sample custom card from Shutterfly, and same design, but on photo paper from adorama. Shutterfly came out as I see it on my screen. Adoramapix photo paper lustre, came out darker than on my screen. :( It is weird, because when I order regular pictures, they come out exactly as I see them on my screen, it just happens with Digital LO's

Could this be do to the paper? (photo vs.cardtock).

Thanks everyone for your comments.

I don't have any direct experience with Adoramapix, although I have ordered from Adorama Camera before. I have had prints printed through Shutterfly, but nothing larger than 4x6, which came out ok. Nothing noteworthy is either direction.

For a direct answer to your question: YES! Professionally printed digital image on professional grade photo paper will most definitely have a different output than an image printed on cardstock. I make out your description quite right on who was using what paper which job, but I did make out that you had samples on photo paper and cardstock. Even different brands of photo paper will act differently, as well as matte and glossy.

For a more deeper explanation: The printer itself will also vary, as well as the color profile. Depending on the color profile you are using, and the profile that each of the different printers is set to, whether it is your home printer, or sent out to be printed, will also make a difference. The color mode can also make a difference.

Depending on how tied to one specific print company you are, will be an indicator of how to proceed. If you want to stay with the company that prints your layouts dark, then give them a call and ask for advice.

1. Look on your layout software for which color profile your software uses for a working environment, and what color profile it outputs to.

2. Note the color mode you are using, whether it is RGB or CMYK mode.

3. It is a good idea to note down the color profile and settings of your monitor, for reference.

Be prepared to write down the profile that their printers are set to. You will need to use this setting when you are planning to use this service. Remember, that profiles can change from printer to printer, so know which printer they use for which job. For example, if you want to print 12x12, and they use printer A for that job, then you save that layout with the specified profile. If you then want to print a 4x4 of that same layout, for a mini album, and they print 4x6 on printer B, you would save that layout again, with the specified profile for printer B.

Also, it is a good idea to get a calibration unit. There are several on the market.

If all this is too much, then just try a couple more places. You might have different printers for different jobs depending on what you want printed.

I hope this helps!

Staci

I have use http://bayphoto.com/ for years now, for both my professional pics as well as personal stuff and they produce consistently good products, lots of options and a great customer service department. Would highly recommend them and they do ship. They are located in Santa Cruz, California.

Thank you Staci. It all makes sense. I use CS4. I was actually looking at creating different color profiles, but thought it was going to be messy. SO what I tried was
working on RGB, then converting it to CMYK later. When I tried doing this, going to view/proof colors/CMYK was already checked. The other choices there, I am not familiar with, are you? I REALLY want to figure this out.. I ordered two LO's from sbtoshare to see how that works. But I really like adoramapix.

Thank you!

Hi!
ok, so as Staci suggested, I called Adoramapix and explain the color problem. They said they use sRGB color space and that i should download their ICC profile and softproof with their software. I went to the site to try and do this, but they say I first have to calibrate my monitor or the ICC profile are really not going to do anything for me. To do this, they said, you can use the native CS4 gamma set up or I could buy this expensive software... :( It is really important to me to get true colors, but i don't have the $$ right now to buy the calibrating software :( Is there another or more economical way to do achieve this? The sw they suggested are from $170-$350
Thank you!

I just ordered a WHOLE HEAP of layouts that have backed up here from http://scrapbookpictures.com - I'm sold on them because of the consistency - they come out EXACTLY like my calibrated monitor - maybe a bit different light/dark wise, but the color is right on. Unlike my printer...

They are having a really good sale going on right now. I'll be posting photos of my stack on my blog when they arrive (they're in the mail right now wisking their way to me).

As for color management - that's something I need to learn more about - but I know my prints from the 'pro' labs match the one monitor I have that I thought I'd test before messing with it. So, I'm not messing with it and just refer to it as the calibrated one.

There used to be a link I had that helped my other monitors some - but can't find that. You might take a look at the ICC folks stuff and see if there's something of help:

Thanks Janet! I will check it out. I will wait until I get the prints from sbtoshare and see how they compare to what I see on my screen. I may be lucky like you and would have to do nothing with my monitor!

Hi!

I just got my order from scrapbook pictures. I ordered them 8x8 on photo paper.
It looks AWESOME! I didn't have to edit ICC profiles or anything! great!!! the colors were VERY close to what I see on the screen unlike the other printer service I was using.

Now I am just waiting for my sbtoshare samples and see how they look.

thanks everyone! this forum rocks!

I recently ordered some sample from sbtoshare - the quality was wonderful! They do still have a small (1/8") white border. I thought I wouldn't like it, but it really isn't so bad. The layout color was true and clear. I was very impressed, but I have so many pages to print, that getting them all there would break the bank right now.

scrappingsimply.com (http://www.scrappingsimply.com) is the cheapest ($1.99 for a 12x12) that i have found that uses full bleed archival photo paper. I have lOVED my pages! The colors are more vibrant printed than on my monitor!

I just got some pages back from http://www.scrapbookpictures.com/SBPView.jsp and they turned out fantastic. I had them printed on the metallic paper and I am thrilled with the results. I previously had a book done by Shutterfly and was very happy with the book. However, to get pages printed at Shutterfly would have cost me $7.99 each. So, I decided to try Scrapbook Pictures because the price was $2.99 ea. and I printed 10 pages. The pages are on photopaper instead of the paper that they use in books but that is actually better for what I want to do with these.

I'm making a small album for my sister-in-law of photos I had taken of her and her horse. She will absolutely love this!

What is your preference for putting the printed pages together? I would like to have my pages printed at my neighborhood Costco instead of having a photobook printed, but I am unsure what to do with them after printing. Are there options other than a ring binder? Thanks for any ideas you might share.

I'm with Fran, I print 12x12 and put them in an album. We have an Archiver's store (a paper scrap store/chain) near us, and I just love to go in and look at their albums. If you can, find a paper scrap store, or places like Target or Michaels, also have a good selection of albums. I seem to have settle on Pioneer as my album brand, but go find something YOU like in a size you are happy with.

Thank you for your suggestions about albums. That is exactly what I was looking for. Now I have another question, which I am sure you all will find to be so simple it is funny! Do you adhere the print to the album page or do you look for albums with the plastic pull-overs? I seem to be floundering.

Thanks again!

Kathleen
08-16-2009, 10:21 AM
Plastic pullovers = bad! At least that is what they used to be, as they would do more damage to photos long term. Anyway, most "scrap" albums, ie, those meant for 12x12, 8x8 or 8 1/2 x 11 sizes are a nice plastic (archival quality) sleeve. You just slip your pages in and you are done. You buy refills for your particular album type as most albums will come with 10 or so pages, but can expand to fit 100 or so. The sleeves typically come with a piece of paper in them (thicker than paper, not quite card stock). I used to take them out, but I hand trim all my prints, so there is a slight variation in size (probably no more than 1/8" - 1/4"), but it was enough that I prefer the consistent edge in the sleeve. It adds a bit of bulk and weight to each album, but it doesn't bother me.

Hey ladies -

Wow, I had no idea it has been this long since I've been on here. OOPS! Man, life surely gets busy, doesn't it? Speaking of busy, our website (Pages to Treasure.com) is about to celebrate our first birthday (a year since we went "live"). To celebrate we are having a one day sale on 8.26.09 where you can print as many 12x12 digi scrapbook pages as you would like at only $2 per page. They are typically $3 per page, so a decent savings. Just wanted to let ya'll know :) Take care!
