I have downloaded alot of freebies today. I was wondering if I could take them all and save them to a CD. Then when I wanted to use something just put the CD in and use it. That way I will always have them on disc. Can I do this?
sure. I save to disc all the time :)

Pretty soon you will be tired of going through CDs and will be getting an external drive - I have a 100gb one for my scrapbooking stuff.

Those external hard drives a great for this sort of thing. You don't think you are going to use much disc space until you really get started! I just bought a 160mb and boy did I free up alot of space on my hard drive! Darn thing runs so much faster!

I also have a 160g external hd. It's wonderful not only to free up space, but also if I want to scrap on another computer (i.e. my desktop or the laptop) I can just plug in the external and I have all my stuff right there!

What external hard drive brands do you recommend, and do you need to buy any other software to use them with your computer / laptop?

I have a Seagate and I think it was plug and play, or it came equipped with its own software disk.

I also have a SeaGate and I love it. It's a small purse size body but it has 160g (you can choose whatever size g you want, whatever suits your need and budget). Mine happened to be on sale at Best Buy for $80.00. You will find that usually they range around $1/g so definitely look for sales! It just plugs into your USB port and away you go. No installation of anything.

We have a seagate one (40 g) for pics when we travel and a Maxtor 200g Network drive that all the computers at home can reach.

The external hard drive is good for back-ups too. Make sure you're backing up all your stuff somehow.

I'll second the EHD. Before I purchase my new beefy computer, I found my self quickly running out of space on my hard drive. Once I bought my an external, I was able to free up all that space. I had NO problems what so ever! I have a Western Digital.
Now that I have a beefcake computer, I use my external as back-up.
