Cathiemarie--loved the funnies! I needed a good laugh!
Happy Birthday to your father, EG! Celebrate well!
I actually left my apartment today and went *gasp* shopping! But couldn't find what I wanted in the clothes department, so ended up at Barnes and Nobles. Sat around perusing some books, and when I got ready to leave the skies had opened!
Lynnie, let us know how Nancy Drew is. I loved reading her as a kid, but I hear the movie is really different from the personality she had in the books.

I agree with everyone that Paul Potts has the most amazing voice - how he has escaped undetected I can not understand - to me his voice is every bit as good as the 3 tenors - amazing! He must have had training though to be able to sing like that and sustain the notes.
Wonderful to hear that your father is still doing so well at the ripe old age of 92 Jill hope you have a lovely day!

Hi Carti - If you come to the chats, do the challenges when you can (when you like the kits and when you can afford the kits) then I think that is all a designer expects. Lauren goes out of her way to make the most fabulous kits and posting bonuses and chat freebies. It's her job to convince you to spend your budget on her kits and your job to select what fits your scrapping budget and your need at the time. Lauren is amazing and wouldn't have hurt your feelings for the world. On that note, if you have any of Lauren's kits - be sure to participate in the featured designer challenge for a posting bonus and a chance at the most of prize or random draw prize. You can click on the link in my signature to get to the forum.
<<I have been to many of Lauren's chats. I did say I love her work and appreciate her time she spends making them. When I am in the chat as I mentioned before I always said thank you and goodbye. I do have some of Lauren's kits and did participate in some of her challenges.
I read Lauren's response and it was nice of her to explain what she meant.
Surviving on a limited income one has to be very selective. I probably won't be able to purchase a great deal of the kits. There sure are a lot of her's I love and some of the other designer's as well.
Thank you.>>

I am in Laura-land tonight!! I was happily doing my yard sale today when my bliss was suddenly interupted by a phone call from my sister. I knew something was wrong because that is the only time my sister calls me. My dear, dear aunt Linda is in the ICU in the hospital!!! I couldn't get up here fast enough!! I don't know why my mom didn't call me and she wasn't even going to go to the hospital until my cousin called her and guilted her into going. She must not have stayed long cuz she was gone when I got here.
Anyway, she started out with a pretty big and painful kidney stone Thursday along with urinary tract infection... Friday had stone removed surgically but was back home in a few hours! then fever spiked and they took her back...she seemed confused at some point so they did a cat (sp?) scan, found a small hemorage and later also found the infection is throughout her blood stream. No one mentioned it, but isn't that a septic infection that is very deadly?
So Lisa and I went to the hospital and saw her, spent some time there and then they sedated her and told us to leave. I'm at her house now on her computer. My cousin went home too but my uncle stayed and will call us back to the hospital if necessary. I'm very nervous about the "infection spread throughout her blood stream" was how my cousin phrased it. So please send her prayers and hugs! I know y'all will without asking cuz that's just the kind of grannies that you are!!
This is the aunt that I scrapped in the big hoop wedding dress. I'll find a link in a minute. I think Laura may have taught her kids; they went to Laura's school district anyway. But I didn't know Laura's last name to ask my cousin if she ever had her as a teacher! And Chris said she never knew her teacher's first names! Oh well. Better sign off and get some sleep. I want to check out the rest of the thread and DSP first though!!!
Thanks for your prayers again!!!

Vicki, my prayers are with you. I can feel the anxiety in your message. Think positive thoughts, they can do so much in medicine today. She must be pretty young (at least to me) so she will likely do well. We were married five years before they were and we are still going strong! Keep us posted. Hugs!

Granfran, congrats on your new Laptop!!! Lucky girl, what type did you get? You probably said it a zillion times already, once more for the dummies??!!
Dummies? We don't have any dummies here! I don't think I went into much detail about it, but if you want, here goes! :) It's a Dell, my second Dell laptop. I was really happy with the first, and Dell lets you modify them like you want. I started out with one of the low-to-mid-range models and upgraded as much as I could afford. It's not the grandest, but it's a huge improvement for me, and I'm sooooo happy! Oh, and they let me have XP, so no problems with software or accessories. I'll probably convert to Vista just before the next OS comes out.
Hope you've managed to get some heat in your house now, Vallie. Let me know if you still need blankets, or I could send you some more cats.

I sent Vicki a private message to see if I might know her aunt's family. I didn't realize they had attended my school district. Wouldn't that be a hoot!!!
I will keep your aunt in my prayers:pray: whether I know her or not. This sounds dangerous!
Meanwhile, I just heard from a dear friend of mine...I would say old friend, but she is actually younger than my daughters. She and I started the MI scrappers when she lived in Michigan, but then she moved back to New Orleans with her family. She and her kids stay with me when they visit Michigan AND when they visit Florida. She is also on DSP, but has been so busy with her job/career in computers that she hasn't been on very much. ANYway, she is DSP member Kerrilynn and she has been very ill with colitis and infection which seems to be resistant. If you know her or just want to help me out with prayers she, her kids and I would appreciate it.
On a lighter note, my DGD, Gabriella had a birthday party today. Layout here: Miss 4 (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=196514&cat=500&ppuser=891)

Vicki, so sorry to hear about your aunt, I hope she does well. Yes, an infection of the blood stream is called either septicemia or you just hear they are septic. It can be very dangerous if left untreated, but it sounds like they are being aggressive with the antibiotic therapy, which typically has good results. Hugs and prayers for you both!

Lynnie, let us know how Nancy Drew is. I loved reading her as a kid, but I hear the movie is really different from the personality she had in the books.
Oh dear! I'm the last person in the world you should ever ask about a movie. I'm afraid I am way way too easy to please.
Having given that disclaimer I have to say I absolutely loved the movie and so did my mum. It was loads of fun but not silly. I can't remember the books too well (although I did read them all) but she was rather how I thought I remembered her. She was bright, happy, old fashioned, intelligent, polite, well-mannered, nicely dressed and very brave. I would say that she was a young lady we would want our girls to model themselves after (except the constantly getting yourself in danger part!)
If you want to see a film with lots of good fun and absolutely no swearing, hanky-panky, excessive violence, etc. etc. etc. then this is the film for you. There were a few very scary "I know someone is going to jump out any second" moments, so if you scream out loud in films, beware!
I've done my job for the day :)

hiy WOW, what a day. Up early this morning for a small plane ride to King Salmon and then a sea plane to Katmai National Park.Alsaka. You all know this place, its on all the Tv shows and adds when they show bears catching the salmon over a waterfall as the fish swim up stream to sporn. It was very wet (first bit of rain we have had) when we got here but that was not going to stop us. We had to have a bear safety talk before we were allowed to roam around the park. No bears to be sighted in the morning and we went back to the Brooks Lodge for lunch and to ask the rangers if bears had been sighted today. While at lunch the cry of BEAR went out, and was we looked out the window a big one walked right by. This got us all excited and we knew we were in for a great day. After lunch we spotted our second bear along the beach shore line and thought we could get up a bit closer so were set off in the direction of the bear. We got up quite close to this one, about 50 yards (not allowed to go any closer than that) while coming back from this bear we walk within 10 FEET of one before we even saw him. Be still my beating heart. The rangers made us stay in a small hut, until he moved on. We then moved down to the viewing platform over the river and after waiting only about 10 minutes a very BIG bear walked right under us and into the water to catch his salmon. This place is amazing. So green, lots of rivers and stream, and fisher people everywhere fishing for salmon. After watching our the bear for half hour we set of back to the lodge for a hot cuppa. While walking the trails around here you must sing, clap hands and make as much noise as possible so the bears know you are about and can keep away from you. We could not have been making enough noise as when we rounded the corner in the trail, there was a mummy bear and her 3 cubs right in the middle of the trail only about 20 yards away. We had been instructed to NOT look them in the eye, but to SLOWLY back away while all the time talking to it. NEVER run or turn your back to a bear. Sorry girls I didn't get any clear shot of the cubs as my hands wre shaking so much and my poor heart was going Ker thump ker thump ker thump. My new camera has a anti shake but my hands were shaking to much for the camera to cope with. The four of us backed up REAL SLOW and in the end the bear and her cubs went in the woods. I have taken lots of photos of the other bears and will bore you with them when I get home. Off to Washington DC tomorrow for 4 days. Stay safe all. Catcha..... all

Wow Dags it sounds as though you were nearly eaten by a bear!!!! scary stuff!!!!!
We watched a movie the other day called Grizzly Man about this guy Tim Treadwell who spent 13 summers living with the bears in Alaska and then ended up being eaten by them:eek:    He was a bit strange to say the least and I think the locals all thought he was whacko, but he did love those bears! Yes, Dags, your vacation is one-in-a-lifetime! Would be for me, anyway! Glad you are getting away from those bears, though. Can't wait to see the pictures. Be sure and take lots in DC, too. I miss going there every summer. So much to see and all kinds of ethnic foods to try. Hope you get to see the National Cathedral. Of course you'll see the mall (national, that is) and all the monuments and tour the White House, maybe. Be sure and use the metro (subway) if you can--it's great (this is from a TX country girl, remember :) ).

More company coming this week so it will be awhile. Will be taking the RV down to a park close by where we grew up and stay in it while attending our 50 yr. class reunion. Yes, I've had some problems during the past month with the circulation in my left leg. First there were blood clots, but I didn't have to go to the hospital or get on blood thinners because they were in secondary veins and my clotting factor was normal. So I just kept my leg elevated as much as possible and started the aspirin regimine.
Then after that settled down I noticed that my leg was more swollen and darker pink than usual, so I had a second sonogram last Monday, and will know the results tomorrow when I have a complete physical with my doctor. I'm pretty sure the sonogram didn't show anything because they let me come home. ;) IMHO, the circ in my leg is just impeded a little more than it was in the 60s with my big  episode due to those strong birth control pills that they were handing out like candy. (Should have been LDS or Catholic instead of Baptist! ) (I hope I'm thinking correctly about LDS--no insult intended.)
Anyway, prayers for tomorrow's visit will be appreciated, but I'm keeping a positive attitude and still planning my itenerary. Thanks to all of you for caring--it's such a blessing to be a part of this group! Thanks again, Omi, for inviting me!!

Oh Goodness !! Do you ever have one of those incredibly silly days when you don't do anything right? I had one of those...
First off I met up at Disneyland with JaeDee this morning. It was lovely to see her again and to meet up with Dathamary for the first time. JaeDee has a lovely family. We rushed through the gates and chatted for a few minutes, then went our separate ways. THEN I realized I HAD NOT TAKEN ANY PICTURES!!!! AND, I had the flat grannies with me to take pics and didn't!
Did I lose a braincell somewhere?
Do you have it? If you do, please return immediately.
Congrats granfran on the dress :)

To make the charms I used the notes that one of the previous grannies posted - here they are and Carti I think you can adapt them to other programs - Vallie made hers in PSP.
1) make a white background, this is just to see what you're doing a little better. The directions were for 300 px at 2500X2500.
2) make a new layer and with elliptical marquee tool draw a circle the size you need and then do a stroke outline of about 32 PX. Eyeball your stroke it needs to look proportional to the size of your circle so you can adjust the stroke size if needed. (Call this you ring layer) Pick a color that is a dark grey or pewter for your stroke Apply a metal layer style to this layer. Mine was chrome.
3) make a new layer and repeat directions in #2; but make a small circle for loop; this time make stroke about 22 px. (same color here) Apply style as in step 2 (call this your loop layer)
4) Now your charm holder is finished, all you need do is add the design in the center.
Use a shape, a brush, a photo, text and drag it to fit into the center of the circle
add any style you like. I used the metal styles on all except my fairies and my photo layer. On the photo layer (pansies) I did a glass filter and then used another filter to slightly spherize the photo. This was my own invention. I wanted it to look like it was under glass and slightly raised.
You could use the rectangular marquee if you wanted a square or rectangular charm the possiblilites go on and on. I'm going to try to see if I can do a heart next.
Here's how I finished - When I wanted to save I turned off the white BKG and saved as a PNG with a transparent Background. Then to do the next design. I turned off the layer with my first center design. Added a new layer and did the next center.
I did all off the charms on one PSD file. I just turned off the old center layers and background to save the finished charm.
Have fun - I did !!:twins: :twins: :twins: :twins: :twins: :twins: :twins: :twins: :twins: :twins:

Did everyone see that we've had some grannies with layouts moved to HOF recently. Good scrapping vibes on the granny forum, I think :)
Life's Little Moments - by Her High Royal Planetness - MarsOlson (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=195780&cat=3466)
Nature Walk by the Brit Herself! CathieMarie (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=196619&cat=500&ppuser=52823) (well if it hasn't been yet, Lauren's going to.)
Beyond Bronze by our very own little chick - Ann (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=196510&cat=500&ppuser=47044)
I think that Mars might hold the record for most layouts in HOF. She deserves a special prize for that :)

<<If GranFran doesn't get a chance to answer you LDS stands for Latter Day Saints

Right, Carti, LDS is Latter Day Saints, aka Mormons, but I don't think LDS is any "stricter" a denomination than any others. We all believe a little differently and put emphasis on different beliefs.
I was joking, because I thought that LDS, like Catholics, discourage birth control. I shouldn't have said that, because I really didn't know--just repeating what I've heard. Not a good thing to do. What I meant was that I wished I hadn't been so quick to take those pills and hadn't had to suffer this circulation problem for the last 40 years. :o If I've offended anyone, please accept my apology.

I finally got out today and took some photos of the garden I have worked on so hard...well, my son did, anyway. I am scrapping these days, but nothing seems to fit into any of the challenges I know about.

Your garden is beautiful, and I know you'll be enjoying it. Gives me some ideas for my 'yard'. We didn't want to mow grass, so I've just mulched the entire yard and planted as many trees, shrubs, and flowers as I could. But those weeds are always poking their little heads up, and 'volunteer' native plants are coming up, too. A friend gave me a garden plaque that reads, "I don't remember planting that!", but I think I need more than one!

Crystal, I noticed you asked about my niece in the layout, Rachel is my twin's daughter, we have one daughter each, Rachel and Sarah. Rachel is 22 and Sarah is 19. They are both dolls, don't know where they get their looks from!

Many, many congrats to the Hall of Famers! Cathiemarie, your layout just jumped out at me from the gallery before I had been here to read Lynnie's announcement! Beautiful job!
Inky, thanks for the instructions (again) for the charms. Love the ones you and Vallie are coming up with! The gold is super!--Vallie did you end up keeping your trial of PSCS3?
If anyone wants to join in, the number that came up for the Take a Gamble challenge this time is Meryl's Plopper Plus (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=5911) that she did based on her AliKai Page Kit (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=5911) done in memory of Karen's granddaughter. I scrapped my lovely daughter (don't know where she gets her looks, either, Vallie!)--Sweet Diva (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=196584&cat=4268) that she is!
Don't know where the weekend went--I thought I would get more done, and I didn't!
Red threads, Fran, on your appointment today!
Cyrs, hope you recover from the fish fry! Bet everyone had a great time--can't wait to hear all about it!
Kasha--have you recovered from Egypt? I see you flitting about the site, but miss you in here!
Yolanda, hope you're feeling better too!
Off to visit the galleries :) for a while before I have to go to work...:(

Thanks
Carti, the stroke is just the outline when you draw a circle with the vector circle tool, (not the selection circle too) just change the line width up in your tool options bar for a fatter "stroke" and it will come out the color in your foreground color box. LMK if you need more help.

If you can make them in chrome, it is really easy to switch them over to gold by using colorize and a yellow color until it is the color you want. You can also use the black and white points if you know how to do that.

I will be waiting to hear what the MD says, prayers for you.   and hugs too.

I got the ok from the doctor to get out of here on July 5th!!   All my tests were 'normal' and he said my leg was going to swell and be somewhat pink because of the clots I had. Because of that, I can't stand or sit for extended periods and have to elevate it whenever possible. He also stressed that I should take frequent breaks when driving and walk around. I told him that my dogs would appreciate that suggestion. ;) It might slow me down a little, but better than having more problems.
Thanks for all your prayers and tugging red threads. Guess I'd better really get busy now and get ready to roll. Lots of packing to do, which will satisfy the walking requirement.

Well, I am slow on learning stuff. The problem is I have trouble remembering! :)
I played around PSP 9 this morning and I made two charms. Don't ask me how.
I see I could have made them bigger but hey, first time making these.
I have to write everything down to refer back to step by step. I guess that's the result of getting older!
Thanks. Carti

DH and I went for a walk on the beach at sunset last night. As we came off the beach we heard screams and saw a mother carrying a little girl running toward the water fountain. Her chair had collapsed and she fell into the fire. She had some ugly burns on her arm and leg and a few other smaller burns here and there. She started shaking and I didn't know if she was cold or going into shock. I wrapped her in my jacket and she thanked me. She was just cold. EMS came and checked her out. She was okay. After the initial shock and dousing with cold water, she was calmer than the rest of us were - sweet, sweet, little girl. She's 4. It was her big sister who was maybe 6 who pulled her out of the fire and a bit later ran and got her a stuffed animal. I was so impressed with both of these little girls. We'll walk by there tonight and see how they are doing.
Spent most of the day in Traverse City. As soon as I got most of the laundry and groceries put away, I ran off to the coffee shop for an RGC fix.
We met some nice people at church yesterday and learned about a county-wide singing group that meets at the church on Tuesday nights. We plan to join them after having dinner with one of the park volunteers who works at the Visitor Center in Empire.
Somehow we got talked into doing an hour long concert at 7pm on July 15. Not much time to practice, practice, practice.
They took away a bunch of raccoons and I haven't heard of any more incidents. The mini-posters I volunteered to design to educate campers about the pitfalls of feeding wild animals are posted all over the campground.

I would love to go with you to the Laptop Crop in Grand Rapids on Saturday the 28th of July. You tell me if you can save us a spot and for what nights. Right now, other than July 14-15 we are free and available. You said Sunday night and that would be July 23-the 29 at least.

Hi everyone! I haven't quite read everything from when I was gone but I will get caught up soon! I am finally back home from Detroit. My aunt is much better thanks to all of your prayers! It was touch and go for a while but she is so much better. They have isolated the cause of the infection as e-coli!! I really freaked on that one but the infection control person said that 95% of the urinary tract infections that women get are from e-coli but doctors don't always mention it because of the fear that word strikes in people. She was/is septic but it is much more manageable now with the powerful drugs they have. She is almost certain to recover fully barring any other quirk arising!!! She still has another kidney stone that will have to be dealt with but is not causing any immediate problems and she still has the spot in her brain which may or may not be blood - it hasn't changed at all through 2 cat scans so it may be a small tumor or lesion. They will do mri and more testing later too. But for now she is past the crisis point! Again, thanks to all you wonderful grannies and gits for your prayers and hugs!!!

Lauren - You are welcome any time and all the time!!!
I plan to come just for the day - Saturday - if I can get things worked out. I haven't signed up yet since I'm not sure I can go. Will I still be able to get in to something?
Im not sure about daily sign ups - Margie and Amanda might have more information about that as they have attended 2 of the other GASC events - or you could contact them direct through their website - http://greatamericanscrapbook.com/Show.aspx?ShowId=5

Vicky, I'm happy that your aunt is doing better and that they have been able

sure she'll be out of harms way in no time.
Karen, that is one scary story. Oh, that poor little girl, I would've been a mess

OK, now, about that fish fry.
We awoke to a cold and rainy day. It never got any better. (weather-wise) Two aunts and one great-aunt from Indy, who are 85, 87, and 97, respectively had medical issues and were unable to attend. Dang! That took them and the loved ones who were bringing them out of the picture. So sorry, but as our older generation ages, these are just probems that happen. My dad was the third from youngest of 11 and many, many of my cousins are actually old enough to be my aunts and uncles.
But, my "best" (and only living) uncle on my dad's side (78) and aunt from Indy, and their daughter, who lives in PA. were there. A cousin, his wife, two children and one financee flew in from New Jersey! My favorite aunt in the whole wide world from Normal, IL., (79 and the sweetest creature alive, but with a badly failing mind) and all five of her children, plus two spouses were there and had a blast. My sons and their sons, DH's son and granddaughter, Alyssa, my brother and his family from the Indy area and my sister and her boyfriend from the Indy area. Her grandson (that cute little Nicholas you've all seen, ended up with a fever and had to stay home! Shucks)
So, all told we had 31, which was small but were they lively! So much talking, story-telling and laughing going on the whole day.
While it rained.
And rained.
And rained.
Luckily, my one son had brought a "portable roof" which he set up, so the cookers at least had a roof over their heads. But, the door into and out of the building did NOT have a gutter above it and each timein and out, it was like running through a deluge!
As it rained.
And rained.
I wasn't a cooker, so I didn't get wet. I wasn't even a "helper", DSS and sister's BF covered my jobs. So, all I had to do all day was TALK! Does that surprise anyone?
While it rained.
We really had a great time; all who came were so thankful and appreciative. They thought DH's fish was just the best in the world ('cause it is!) and the company was the greatest.
When we got home, late evening, we had 2.7 inches of rain in our gauge.
...and a good time was had by all!
GrandmaCrys
06-25-2007, 06:35 PM
And...for all of you who are curious, we probably had around 150 fried filets left!
DH has never been accused of short-changing anyone!;)
Oh, and fifteen hamburgers and 40 hotdogs. Luckily, those weren't cooked. But the hamburgers were thawed out. That night, the guys grilled the burgers and a few dogs and we grabbed 8 or 10 bags of the various chips we inherited, washed some grapes and got out the remainder of the pineapple DDIL #2 had brought and called it supper!
Sunday am I fried bacon and made French toast for the 10 of us who stayed in this house with one bathroom and began sending them on their way! Man was this house quiet when everyone was gone!

Yikes, Crys, sounds like the only good thing about your first day back was that the boss was gone. Our family reunion turned out about the same as your day Sat. I had 22, much, much smaller than usual but with kids gone here and there for baseball/softball/any kind of ball it is hard to get everyone together. Talk about rain. My home town received 10 inches of rain last Thurs. nite and Friday. Lots of flooding, haven't talked to my family still there but imagine some have flooded basements as it is river bottom land.

Well, in about 2.5 years, we're fixing to find out! :twins: :twins:
I certainly don't want to sound egotistical, but I don't know how they'll find anyone who's as willing to do everything for them that I do. I told one of the guys today that I need to make them start doing some of their own paperwork and then it wouldn't matter if I were gone. I could just be the backup!
We have one semi and there's a fuel report I do and send in each week. Not one single one has been done in my absence! Those people we report to are really going to be thrilled when the paperwork shows up!
Oh well, I just have to keep remembering that it's not "on me". There's nothing I could have done differently.

Thanks, Vicki, that's more or less what I told 'em all today! It took four weeks for everything to accumulate; I'm not going to try and get it all resolved in an instant.
It took me until almost noon just to make my way through the emails. Most of them were from the "System Administrator" telling me that my mailbox was above the allowable limits. If they hadn't sent that to me each and every day, I could have had 19 less messages!
Oh, and the daily message from the Spam retainer could have saved me another 15 or so if they'd just figured one prod was enough!

They gave them to him this morning when he picked dgd up to take her to work. Then this afternoon our youngest daughter comes in with another coconut creme pie for his Father's Day present! As far as getting groups of people together, tough job, these days. We set this date back in mid-February, so everyone would have plenty of advanced notice, but...
I think i saw more of my relatives this weekend than I have in ages!!!! But if it had been planned, it probably would not have worked out! Nothing like an emergency to get everyone together. I had always been so close to my three cousins and to my aunt and uncle until the past 10 years or so. Then I just saw them a few times a year and rarely talked in between times. Now we've all promised to keep in closer touch -- hope we do! We are just over an hour away from each other (except the one in Florida). Plus I saw a few or my other aunts and uncles. One of them looked pretty bad, he's the oldest, 76 but lots of *hard* living.
Lisa really enjoyed herself! She's only been out of Ohio twice in her life! I wish I had been able to take her site seeing but she just enjoyed being in a big city and seeing what she did on the way to and from the hospital! So I have promised her to go back and do some real touristy type things! And my aunt and cousin have promised to show her around and spoil her! We are just going to have to find the time and JUST DO IT!!! Gosh, I do all these heritage pages and search all over for info on my ancestors but never spend time with my living family!!!! How crazy is that!!!

Scamp.....I'm still around....kind of, sort of, sometimes. Life has been crazy since I've returned from Egypt - catching up with work, helping my son with his physical therapy, plus I signed up for a summer course so I don't get too far behind in school.
I try to keep up here, but I think I'm hopelessly so far behind that there's no chance for catching up. I felt so bad that I missed Helene's news about her DH and stumbled upon it during a chat.... thanks again Vicki for cluing me in......and I thought I was at least catching the really important posts like that one.
Also, Miss Freda has spurred a fire under Daniel's you-know-what with their common interest in the history of Tennessee......and since his computer bit the dust a few days ago, he's monopolizing mine regularly. Funny how he seems to need to use it the few hours that I'm home at night. But anything to keep him busy and his mind occupied is a very good thing and I am grateful for her sparking the interest there. Wait till you see what he has accumulated to share with you Freda!
Thanks so much to all of you who have continued to ask about him...can't tell you how much that means to us. His last day of physical therapy is on Friday and in about two weeks he can test out to see about returning to duty in Iraq. He is just chomping at the bit to go back and I'm sure he's going to pass his physical.
We did have some bad news last Friday from "our guys"......another two soldiers were hurt seriously and are now hospitalized in Germany. We still don't know the extent of their injuries, but they are alive and that is a blessing for them and their families.
Take care dear ladies.....hugs and prayers for all in need.

Bokkies are the Springboks, South African representative Rugby Union Team. In Australia we have the Wallabies, in NZ they have the All Blacks, USA are the Eagles.
There is an American rugby team?!?!? I've never seen rugby being played. Wish it was on TV sometime so I could see it.

I also did Jamie's Inspiration challenge tonight......Vicki and Helene were also there. I don't know what I was thinking trying to scrap a layout in an hour.....the slow poke that I am. Of course, I didn't finish my layout.....what a surprise. I used some shots I took of some Egyptian children and I really want to do a great layout with the photos - at least as good as I can do anyway. If anyone has any suggestions....please, please pass them along to scrap-challenged me.

I don't have any suggestions for your layout - I think it is off to a great start! But as for cropping slowly, I hope they don't think it is cheating, but I really had most of my layout planned, the photos touched up, the journaling done, the papers and elements chosen, and all that before the crop started. So then all I did was *assemble* it during the hour. She said she would always post a sample of whatever she was basing the chat on so we should be able to do quite a bit of pre-planning like that. I hope so cuz that's the only way I will be able to do it in an hour!

Wow! Hope the little girl is ok. The mother in me just shudders to hear something like that, especially since I have boys near the same age.

So glad your aunt is doing better. Get some rest and take care of yourself.

The charms are easy to do in PSP.
Open new transparent page, 6in x 6in x 200dpi (or whatever you want!)
Select vector circle (Under A button on left tool bar, symmetric shape), draw a large circle, mine was filled in with grey.
With magic wand, select the grey, marching ants will be around the circle edge.
Go to selection/modify/contract and choose 36 pixels, okay. The marching ants will contract into the circle. Hit delete button on keyboard, you now have a large grey ring.
Make a new layer.
Choose vector circle again and make a small grey circle (for the hanging loop) that looks like it suits the big one, it doesnt matter where it is on the layer, you move it later.
With magic wand tool, click on the grey again for the marching ants to appear around the little circle. Go to selection/modify/contract again and choose 24 pixels. Ok. Now the ants contract into the grey. Hit delete button on the keyboard to clear the centre.
Move the little ring into place over the big ring. Then go to layers/merge/merge visible. You now have the basic charm outline in a flat grey shape.
To make it more realistic add a bevel.
Go to Effects/3d/Inner bevel.
Play around with the settings to get the effect you want.
As a guide you could: Choose bevel 2, change the colour box to pale grey, smoothness 28, depth 20, ambience 23, intensity 64, shininess 55, elevation 17.
If you dont like that, play around with the other bevel edges and settings.
Hope that makes sense!!

Night everyone!
Oh I like that Chris!! I did 8x10 portrait but left the quick click oriented like Jamie had it. I should have turned it so the tear is on the bottom so the pics could have been bigger. I'm going to redo mine like that. I did most of the planning and journaling before the chat so I could get done on time! I didn't consider the overlap on the photos well enough and the size of the photos so I don't like how they interplay at all. But if I rotate it like yours that should take care of that! I love the qc and can see myself using it a lot, especially the rays and tear.

Hello everyone, just a quick note to let you all know what's happening in my corner of the world in case anyone is concerned why I am AWOL.
We are currently in a state of emergency in my town, basically we are under water with flash floods, more rain forecast and engineers are working frantically on a dam which is cracking and threatening to burst which would be catestrophic for us. There are thousands of people homeless and living in schools at the moment, thousands of homes without power and no broadband connection in the Greater Sheffield Area. I have managed to get onto dial up but can't stay on too long because it 'ties' up my phone line but I just wanted to let you all know whats happening and to ask for prayers for us especially for those who have lost thier lives in this natural disaster in my home town. Here's a link if you want to read more Flood news in South Yorkshire (http://www.thestar.co.uk/news).
As you will appreciate I probably wont be able to make any chats this week and probably won't be able to do the polls for Our Heritage and T42 this week, but if I can, you know I will.
I'll try to get back to keep you updated.
Oh and thank you for all your kind comments on my HOF LO.
And the EXCELLENT news is I won the first prize in the Surprize Shopping in June, what a wonderful surprise that was for me. I won TWO page kits of my choice Whhhooo, and I can't get on line to get them BBBBooooo HHHHooooo.

Cathie, redthreads wrapped tightly! Nature is playing some awful tricks on us recent years...just like a little kid - gorgeous one minute and throwing tantrums the next! I read the news stories, and am hoping the dam wall will stay solid and the water confined. I wonder where they pump the water to?? The scientists say that with global warming, the melting ice caps, and other climate changes that the Northern hemisphere gets more snow and rain and the Southern more droughts...large areas of Australia have been suffering from severe droughts for a lot of years now...I dont like to think what will be left of our planet for our future generations! On a happier note, congrats on your win Cathie!

It wasn't difficult at all, GranFran! I just printed out and followed Vallie's instructions. (Thank you, Miss Val!)
Only, where she said she made a large circle and it was filled with grey, I kept making one and it was not filled with grey, or anything. I'd follow the rest of the instructions and the ants wouldn't "contract into the circle" as she had said. (And at that point I didn't really even know what that meant.) I tried several times, with the same results.
Finally, I started over (for about the 4th or 5th time) and I used my color picker and paint bucket and filled the cirlce with a color. (Grey, at first) TO-DA!:yahoo: My ants went right into that circle and all other directions from there, worked exactly!
You do PSP, don't you? What version?

Just spent half the day hooking up an external hard-drive! All this scrapping has bogged my computer down, until it is slower than a snail!!! Hopefully once I get it all cleaned up, it will run a little faster!!! It seems to be doing better at the moment!
just thought I'd pop in and say that if you do my freebs this week, you'll get a great grandma set free :D:D:D:D

I didn't quite get the "gold" effect I was looking for, as it's rather too yellow, I think.
Also, I just tried this attachment thing for the first time and I have no idea how it's going to work!
Very, very nice charm Crys!!! Beautiful! You did a marvelous job on it!

I love how Joshie's icky blicky is taking off!
Oh, has anyone sent little Joshie any eye candy lately?!?!?
This is for our cute, sweet boy -- :love3:    :yahoo:  :twins:   :love3: :love1: :love2: ;)  :p :o  :twins:   :twins: :twins: :yahoo: :yahoo:         :love3: :D :love1:    :yahoo: :yahoo: :twins: :twins:
p.s. to Omi and Lizzie and others -- I see you lurking there. Or is that just my bifocals playing tricks on me again??
No place to hide around here! Yep, I've been lurking but too tired to jump in and comment. We're at a family reunion (there are only eighteen of us since DH and I have one sibling between us). Spent the day boating, riding jet skis, tubing, fishing, and eating. Tomorrow is horseback riding and more lake fun. We all just gorged on barbeque ribs and fried okra -- way too full! I'm checking in, though.

That charm is beautiful! I can teach you how to use Black and White points to make the gold look more gold, once you are on hello. Maybe you will like that better.

Fabulous on your prize Cathie! Wahoo! I am so worried about you though w/ the floods etc. Please stay safe.

I re-read the "official" rules and you can add forum posts, layout comments, and gallery posts together for your total so I now proudly changed to the 4,000 post blinkie.
Don't know why I am sitting here in the wee hours...just couldn't sleep, I guess. No energy during the day; drag, drag, drag, then can't sleep at night. Wish there was a magic way to drop 50 lbs, I know I would feel lots better.
Well, off to see if I can get into some trouble somewhere.

Looking as s**y as you do in your new avatar, LL, I think trouble may just find you without you having to look for it:D:D
If you find the magic way to lose weight, please share with me first OK??? Congrats on the 4000 (not sure where you found those rules though:))
Have a great day everyone, I can't remember if I have posted here today or not...another Granny moment, sigh.

Miss Crystal, your charm looks beautious maximous!!
Hope you havent been washed away Cathie, I saw the news tonight and it showed the floods at Sheffield. Just devastating.
When the Rugby Union World Cup is next on, later this year in France, the US RU team the Eagles will participate!! As do teams from all sorts of countries. I dont think rugby is too big in the US but apparently there are quite a few teams around. The Eagles team would be selected from all these different teams. I think they managed to win a game in the last world cup series! The Eagles play England September 8 in France. Unfortunately for them England is a top team!! Then they play Samoa September 26 and South Africa (Bokkies!!) September 30. The World Cup is held every 4 years. This is the draw:

I was wondering about the posts, arent they all added together anyway. I thought forum posts and gallery comments were combined in the total posts tally under the avatar.
