Thank goodness I had my little rant in this thread a few days back because all the advice I got from everyone came in very handy today. I sent the teacher an email last week telling her I would be in today for a copy of her lecture notes and a study guide - that is what is on the IEP. She told me today that she is not going to do that. Her plan for Bia in her words is, "She can just do the best she can. I am certain her grades will be poor, but, oh well. If she cannot keep up or gets confused, I will send her out into the hall with another student to tutor her." Think I need to call the Root Doctor and have a hex put on her? What a B__ __ __ __. So I thought that once I find the root doctor that Vallie could work a little voodoo and witchcraft too. What do you think Vallie-girl?

Well, if it's a woman teacher, I'm not too sure how much a "r**t doctor" will be able to do!

DAMN!!!!!!! Would someone please smack me in the head with a (virtual) 2x4 prior to Nicole's chats, so I don't keep missing them????????
(Last night I got that ole "Your Virtual Memory is Too Low"message and I honestly thought they were referring to my computer - musta been me they meant!      )
  Oh, you get that message too Crys! How about that! I thought it was my computer getting smart with me, so I traded it in for a nicer model!
I love to help you out with a good smack, but probably not the right person for this job. I would love to attend Nicole's chat, but at 11:00 EST, it's way too late for me when I have to get up so early for work. Are you on CST? Never can tell with these border towns.

while in Canada, Lake Louise we came across this very cute little fellow and got really excited because it was the first time we had ever seen a squirrel. We thought!! Now you are telling me this is not a squirrel but a chipmunk!!!! He is far to cute to eat, and me thinks not to much meat on him either.http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s168/crabapple_photo/squirrel.jpg
No wonder they're so scrawny--look at what it's eating! No nuts around, I guess.

That is the most unfeeling, unprofessional, innappropriate comment I have EVER heard !!!!! My niece is special needs (autism) and has an IEP as well. Her teacher automatically provides WEEKLY updates as to her progress and if any special concerns arise, contacts my sister-in-law so they can meet and evaluate Casey's DAILY goals.
If this is the level of professional accountability practiced by Bia's teacher, my next trip would be to the principal, school board,,( whatever the next level is) and would also contact a Child Advocate to accompany me . Sometimes, I think the schools, because they are quite over burdened, do not pay too much attention to the parents concerns,,, but if a professional advocate attends with the parents, then more attention is paid... "THE SQUEAKY WHEEL GETS THE GREASE". Unfortunate but true.
But.. OOOOHHHHHH Grrrrrr... Her comment makes me so ANGRY.....

There are also BLACK squirrels here... we have gray squirrels where we live but on the other side of town are black squirrels. The red squirrels I call brown. LOL maybe I'm color-blind!
What some call "red squirrels" and you "brown" are fox squirrels, due to their reddish color and bushy tails. Where DH came from (them hills of Kentucky), they only have grey squirrels, which are much smaller than our fox squirrels. Two fox squirrels can easily feed two people, with enough left for a lunch for one of 'em; whereas it takes more gray squirrels and no one would think of eating a chipmunk ground squirrel). There are certain areas that have black squirrels and they are very dark in color. There's also a town somewhere in southern Indiana that has a whole contingency of white squirrels, which may or may not be albinos, depending on where you are! (There's both!)
Chipmunks are cute, but disasterous to attics and eaves, where they like to invade.
We, too, feed the squirrels in our yard and think they're very cute. DH only hunts those in the woods, well, except for the occassional "garage squirrel", but that's another story entirely!
When we first moved to our current house, DH spent one entire summer "live trapping" the squirrels from our yard and relocating them to the woods. Then, that fall, he went to the woods, shotgun in hand, and it was "LOOK OUT, SQUIRRELS, HERE I COME!"

Yep, or DST, or whatever they're calling it nowadays! (Both where I work and where I live, thankfully!  ) :D I don't know how you people live on fast time, with the news being at 11! Nobody must work but you, Kasha; or they certainly can't stay awake to watch the news! I can't stay awake for it at 10, let alone 11; although I could stay awake for Nicole's chats once every other week, I think; if I could rememeber them!
I've put "reminders" on stuff, but they're sporatic in the times that they're sent, they don't do me much good! :(

Ya know what, Carolyn? I eat almost every single thing on that list; so that's why I'm thinking potassium is NOT my problem.
I have the same deal with my iron levels. I consistently get turned down twice a year by the Red Cross when I try to give blood. Each and every time they send me home with a list of the foods I "should be" eating. Well, guess what? I eat almost everything from that list, also!
DH gardens to the max, specializing in tomatoes, red potatoes, sweet potatoes, and beans, among so much more, so those are always in our diet. I eat a salad for lunch daily, and never fail to add spinach, peas, sunflower seeds and tomatoes in season. Also being an avid fisherman, salmon is a common feature in our evening dining, and often makes it's appearance into my lunch-time salads! My all-time favorite salad features black beans and mandarin oranges.
So, the intake seems to be above par; perhaps the "processing center" is lacking?????????

Verious medications can sometimes be the cause of malabsorption...it might be worth noting if the cramps started sometime close to the beginning of taking a new medication. Unfortuneatley, the more meds we NEED to take, the more side effects we wind up with....Ususally, any thing like that is printed in teeny tiny letters on the med insert sheet, but you need super binoculars in order to read it !!LOL There is also a condition known as restless leg syndrome.. which I have been told is extrememly painful and just plain horrible.

Ok we have squirrels in our development and we put out cages to catch them then the men take them out and relocate them...in the hills, then the men drive back to our development about a 5 miles trip back and as they drive in the entrance the Squirrels stand up waving and welcome them back home. It is really crazy it sure seems like they beat the men back.....LOL
Leg cramps....not a fun thing. I get them a lot when I am in the swimming pool have to get out and walk them off. So now I am going to carry a banana in my floater so I can eat it and ward off the cramps while in the pool....LOL:yahoo: :yahoo:

I took Bia to the pediatrician last week for a "well girl" check and a meningitis vac - after insurance we still owed $366.00. Isn't that incredible?
My monthly med (which is IV and I have to be in the hospital for several hours during the day-it routinely makes me spike a high fever....although last time it did not, so maybe I am through with that kind of reaction) is $3000.00 (YES, three thousand) per month AFTER INSURANCE. And the med is made from mouse genes. I thought you could get a rat pretty cheap, so I do not know why it costs so much. One day when I was sitting there whiling away the hours my friend showed up with a stuffed mouse (which, as it turns out, she stole off the pediatric ward) and a block of cheddar cheese. What a hoot.

Hello ladies, well, I have tried to read back a gazillion pages and give up. I think the last time I was here everybody was putting WOS and WVS in their messages so I will do that to cover all my bases. Cooler weather has arrived in my area and it is most welcome, was beginning to think we were going to go from hot summer to cold winter and I do love Indian summer. Good thoughts and lots of prayers going out to all who need them.

Good afternoon, Friends!
For those of you who get the 'foot cramps' - I get those too, and was told to go see a chiropractor. I get the leg cramps too, but the foot cramps can actually be caused by your back's alignment being off and pinching a nerve.
Y'all have been cracking me up with all the squirrel talk. I've gone squirrel hunting once, back when I lived in Nashville, but cried myself into hysterics when I actually shot one.    So, that ended that. My then-boyfriend refused to ever take me hunting again. He skinned and cleaned the poor thing and ate it, but I had to leave the house.
PQ Fran ~ I sure hope you can get something done regarding Bia's teacher. What a B!+ch!!! If you need it, I'll send a big ol' can of Redneck Whoop A$$ her way! I would SO be doing what I could to get her fired. But I'm mean like that.
I'm hoping this string of crazy days comes to an end soon. :(
Took oldest DS for his school physical - which he breezed through with NO issues (this new MD was super nice AND female - his favorite combination ;) ) UNTIL it was time to do the dreaded imz's. He had to get 5 imz's and the flu shot - three needles in each thigh. :( I felt SO horrible, especially since the youngest DS was there looking on, and HE was scheduled for the flu shot too! He kept saying "No Mama, me not SICK!" They each got a piece of (sugarless) bubble gum, and 2 stickers, but poor Tucker is having a really hard time walking right now. We're doing warm compresses, and he's had a dose of Tylenol and a popsicle after lunch. He's laying on the couch watching some rediculous pre-school show on Noggin, but he earned it! Morgan is faring better, but I still gave him a popsicle too, just cuz I'm cool like that.
On the way home, I received a call from Rhyan's school 'nurse' (I use that term VERY loosly, as they've mis-diagnosed her and sent her home for no apparent reason NUMEROUS times before  ), but it seems as if she may be coming down with strep. She said her throat started hurting after breakfast this morning (she prefers to eat at school) and by the time lunch rolled around she said it hurt to swallow. She's eating well, but I'm feeding her Acidophilus for the next couple of days, in the hopes that we can take care of it before it gets out of hand. So now, I have to keep the boys seperated from her - although Morgan has already snuck a swallow or two of her Gatorade, so I'm sure he's next in line  - and keep my fingers crossed that this comes to an end QUICKLY. Hubby is actually in the process of switching companies, so we'll be without medical insurance for 3 months.
So here I sit, drinking coffee at almost 2:00 in the afternoon since I didn't get any this morning, stressing over things I have little control over.
And here is the layout I did for Kim's challenge. I posted it just after her chat this morning. I still need to get the store links into the credits.
Grammie's Arms (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=217995&ppuser=78734)

VERSION 5
I'm thinking I should change the title now.
I made mistakes when I was doing this and didn't know how to correct them but managed to cover them up! For some reason, part of the burgandy background was sort of scratched out (don't know how or why) and I had to cover that up. Can't remember what tool I used, but it worked! LOL

My mother is on Remicaide treatments for nueropathy (sure I misspelled that one!) and at first the treatments seemed to help, but she doesn't see the results as when she first began them. I'm thinking each treatment costs something like $7,000.00???? You're right about sickness having become a luxury.....I won't even start on that soapbox!
Welcome back Marcia!! Warning......it will take you forever to catch up!
Hey Crys.....just noticed your bingo blinkie....so cute!! Where did you find that one at??

Hi Kasha, no we are nowhere near the slides. That is a very expensive area in LaJolla. Wonderful views of the ocean from there, I did layouts of the flat grannies there, do you remember going? LOL Really sad situation. I have a nephew who also needs Remicaide treatments for Crohns Disease. He is in college, works two jobs and still has to fit these treatments into his schedule! At least it allows him to lead a pretty normal life now. Of course, he has to remain on his Dad's insurance! Hard for a young man to be that dependent on his parents, just when they wish to be independent!
Marcia you asked how I get that skin effect for the stylelift. I used a layer of the original color, then reduce saturation on a top layer, making it black and white. I then use a transparency brush to allow just a touch of color to show through wherever I want it. I hope that helps, it is pretty simple that way. I use DIP which makes it very easy to do. Then I group all the layers together when I am sure I am finished.

I think it is up to the individual to decide if you want to take all the drugs doctors push on you today.
Doctors should find out what the problem is first and what is causing it instead of writing out prescriptions willy nilly.
I have found by taking natural stuff I am far better off. Sure sometimes one needs certain medications but I investigate before I take any drugs today.

Congrats on the bronze star Kev!!!
   Those pesky squirrels are just too smart!
     I can just imagine you in a floaty in the pool eating a banana!!!
I have restless leg syndrome:( It is not painful but is just plain horrible:( :( :( Thankfully the meds that I take work wonderfully!!!:yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:
I have restless leg syndrome too - IT IS AWFUL. But thankfully my meds work too. My physician said that there is a very high rate of suicide in people with restless legs who do not get relief with the medications. I can believe it. You think that it would not be that bad....bUT YOU CANNOT QUIT MOVING YOUR LEGS! Before meds, I would be exhausted and sobbing - and I could not quit walking. What a horror story!
DAMN!!!!!!! Would someone please smack me in the head with a (virtual) 2x4 prior to Nicole's chats, so I don't keep missing them????????

I should be going to bed. I have been trying to work backwards thru all the posts but I think I will give up. I did find a few things I want to comment on. First, congrats Kash on layout of the day, clever layout and the little guy is darn cute. Congrats to Crys on the new grandson. I have to say I am a bit jealous. With four children you would think I could get more than one grandchild. Or is that being selfish? I know a lot of people in the same boat so to speak. Thanks for the welcome words gals. Have seen some new faces and names and happy to read about their families and about them. I sure do like the latest stylelift, and enjoying looking at everyone's layouts, I know I should take the time to leave comments but haven't so I can catch up here on all the messages. I have a shopping cart full of goodies to download tomorrow, did a few hours of work this week at the community college, so spending my money! Before I get it! I cut way back on the hours I was working, just didn't want to work late evening hours anymore so told them just to schedule me for day hours if needed. Hubby and I will be taking the RV out for what will prob be the last campout of this year. Going to go see all the fall splendor and attend a fall festival. WOS and WVS to all.

Marcia....don't feel lonesome re the grandchildren. Me too....Inky too.....we remain hopeful.

Hi everyone!
Fran, I hope you're making progress with Bia's IEP problems. I had a similar situation several years ago with my son, I think then it was called a 501 plan. He had ADD, got into some mischief at summer school at 15, and was expelled on a first offense (he was with some kids that used fire extinguishers on a classroom - classified as a felony - damage to government property). I read and researched and wrote letters and conferenced, but in the end the situation was what it was....I couldn't afford an attorney at the time or I think I could have booted the whole lot to the curb.
There's some excellent information on IEPs in Wikipedia and I also found this:
In cases that warrant formal action, you will need to find out where and how to bring a complaint about noncompliance in your state. You may be able to have the situation investigated by a state-level office responsible for handling such complaints, or you may have to ask for a due process hearing. You should be able to find the appropriate route by calling your state's Department of Education, a local parent advocacy agency, or an attorney who concentrates in special education law. Families often find that asking for a due process hearing is the most effective way to resolve issues of noncompliance.
I hope you've either set this teacher straight or still dogging her and the school for it. You're the only one who can advocate for your daughter, and that is the most outrageous, blatant, obvious disregard for the system and the law and a sign of a teacher who does not care and should not be in her position. I wish you all the best and I pray for you to have the strength to keep fighting for her. It seems like a never ending battle, but you'll always know you did everything you could for her - and so will she.
On the note of the cramping feet, I get the same kind Vallie gets...toes splayed and horrid pains on the top of my feet. I eat a lot of the foods on that list that was posted also, I take a 99mg potassium supplement and there is potassium in the hydrochlorathyazide pill I take for HBP and my bursitis. Sometimes it's not enough, so I just take an extra potassium pill when the toes start their thing. The HCZ I take is a diuretic, so I have to have my potassium monitored as I've had heart issues in the past. I'm a bad patient tho - besides some meds causing malabsorption (not a problem here), caffeine is a known diuretic and I'm a coffee addict. If you drink a lot of coffee or cola there's always that to look at.
They are keeping me busy here and at work, just got back from a trip to Chicago to see the Genesis concert and up north to see a Sprint car race; and the apartment people are coming today to fix my toilet and see if I can get new carpeting!! Needless to say, I wasn't blessed with the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval, so I had to clean and scrub and get the place into presentable condition since they'll be coming in and looking around! My mom is coming next month to visit anyway so with any luck I can keep it this way for 6 weeks until she leaves.
Hugs to all and WOS, WVS and WEES!!!

I can't even begin to get caught up when I miss a few days. Things are popping at work and home - don't even know where to start. Our client conference is this week and I'm a speaker - so I have my hands full.
Having said that :)
Vallie - Gothic Waffler :)
Jill (Evergreen) - Amazing layout - I don't care where it goes, but it should be seen.
All those who are hunting for grandchildren - keep your eyes off mine :) :)
Gail - I can't think of anyone who could possibly represent DSP better than you in the Scrap Pink thingie. You are such a lovely scrapper and an inspiration to all of us. As for your house - you are an artist, you can digitize the mess away!!
DixieMama - sounds like you have your hands full with shotup and sick kids. Hang in there - eventually they don't need shots anymore (but then it is other things, haha)
Joyce (JaeDee) - 500th Layout! Congrats
Debbie (Kasha) - Congrats on Kev's bronze star. Too bad they can't earning them being heroes somewhere safe and comfortable - but I hope they know how very much we appreciate them.
So many of you are in my prayers. We need to get rid of all these chronic illnesses AND leg cramps.
WOS, WVS, WEES and all -

Congrats Gail, what an honour!!! Re the spasmy feet, I must admit to being hypercaffeinated!! Coke, coffee, chocolate, tea ..... too much sugary stuff too. I had the restless legs only once, and boy that was no fun. I dont know what triggered it off but it was really strange to say the least. Only had it once and that was a few years back now. Maybe it is pressure on a nerve in this case, I was just laying in bed. I had better go to bed now, early start tomorrow!

May I ask a favour of the grannies?
The DET team works really hard creating layouts that feature DSP's products. A lot of times they don't get loads of attention because they are sitting in the DET gallery. There are some amazing layouts in there.
Could you spare a few minutes and go to the gallery and pick out a couple of your favourites and make a comment? The DET would so appreciate it!
Thanks :)

You have the spooky time on your post Lynnie 1111!!!!!!!!!! Actually it is good, as it means the angels are near you and a door of opportunity will open if you make a request. I see 111 and 1111 so much it is uncanny. Just when I feel down up pops the ones. I was pushing this heavy linen trolly down the motel aisle and turned and looked at the door and it was 111 then I had to smile and it wasnt such a bad job afterall. Now you all will think I have really lost it!

I have to say I am a bit jealous. With four children you would think I could get more than one grandchild. Or is that being selfish? I know a lot of people in the same boat so to speak.
Boy, I can appreciate this feeling! I was 65 and not a grandbaby! Now I have 2 and that is probably IT.
Only the youngest of my 3 is married and the other two are 40 and 41 and not likely to ever marry. Two step kids in their 30s and not interested, a niece who is married but vows no children and a nephew with a serious girlfriend but also says no kids.
Seven adult kids and only ONE with children...what the heck is wrong? My brother says he feels so sorry for his wife when all her teaching friends start babbling about grandkids and she just sits there.

Hey good morning to you all. I have been trying to catch up with all of you, but I was SEVENTEEN pages behind after a day and a half. :D Had to work yesterday, but while I was there, dh found out that someone broke into our truck, removed the light bulbs so the they wouldn't be seen, rifled through everything, stealing any money they could find, some very expensive binoculars, CDs and whatever else they could get their grubby, filthy thieving hands on! Urrrrrggggghhhhh! Makes me so mad!
On the good news front, two of our puppies have gone to good homes, and a third is being picked up today. Tomorrow, we have 2 sets of people that are interested in buying 2 each, so if those all go as planned, I should be puppy free by Friday! :yahoo: I have to admit I am a little sad to see them go, but I am so stinking allergic to them, it will be a relief, as well. I have been double dosing my allergy meds, and doing a nasal inhaler, none of which is helping all that much. Besides you should see our backyard, what a mess!!!!!! Keep your fingers and toes crossed for me, or as Sandy said "hold your thumbs" or something like that.

Good Morning!!
Gail ~ Congratulations on your BCA layout going to Nationals! You'll do us proud, that's for sure! I have no qualms that you'll make top 10 at LEAST! :yahoo:
Vallie ~ I don't think you've lost it. ;)
Daggy & Inky ~ I wish y'all were in my neck of the woods! I'd DEFINITELY go with ya! Hubby is too self-conscious to take ANY kind of dancing lessons with me.
I've got all 3 kidlets home today. Rhyan's throat is still hurting her, but she's not got a fever, so I'm thinking it's because of all the running around, playing and hollering she did at camp this past weekend. So I'm dosing her with Acidophilus and fluids and keeping her still. Tucker's walking better today, but still favoring his right leg, so he stayed home too. He also had a bit of a hard time getting comfortable enough to go to sleep last night while waiting for the Tylenol to kick in. Tonight I'll give it to him a bit earlier, just to be sure. Morgan is doing just fine, but had a meltdown this morning when his bandaid started coming off. He thought it meant his 'boo boo' was coming back.
I'm hoping to start re-creating my lost layouts today. I also have 2 more Halloween-themed ones to do for the Stylelift. Tucker wants bat wings. Morgan just looks at them and says, "Mo-ommm! Me not have WINGS!" then he looks behind him just to make sure. :twins:
Oh, and I've finished The Chamber of Secrets! Luckily I picked up Prisoner of Azkahban last week, so I can get started on it right away!
Hope y'all have a great day! I'll pop in as I can.

~ my youngest son got out of the USMC last month ~ he & dil and baby moved back up here for three months til he starts college ~ since last Thursday, i've learned that he isn't going to get cable cuz he's living 4 doors down from us and they can come watch one of our tv's & we have cable internet, with wireless so dh can work when he's home, so they will just use our wireless, too ~ they left their washer & dryer with his older brother in NC cuz they can use ours (and our water) for 3 short months ~ dil doesn't like cooking all that much, so they show up each evening at about 6 to see what's on the stove ~
~ i am so happy they have their own place

Shawn - I definitely need some redneck whoop a$$ for Bia's teacher. Could you send me some please? Hope your kidlets feel better soon.
Gail - thanks for the IEP info and congratulations on the nat'l competition You so rock.
Kasha - congratulations on Kevin' Bronze star and LOTD.
SSSNOO - thank you so much for the IEP info - I am headed to Barnes and Noble right now to find a book on Wright's Law.
Bia's teacher still has not complied with the IEP - I am giving the school until the end of today to correct things - after that, I guess I will have to actively pursue correcting things myself. I really do not want to call a due process hearing, but I certainly will.

Just thought I'd jump right in here! I have 4 children and I thought I'd NEVER have any grandchildren, something so important to me back then :) . But I'm here to tell you... watch out what you ask for!
My oldest & only daughter is now 34 years old. My sons are 23, 28, and 29. My oldest son had the first child (boy) in May; then that November, my daughter gave birth to Lucas. My youngest son has a child (another boy) born in Jan 2004 and my middle son (28) has a boy born Feb 2004. AND yes, they are all boys! we're now praying for a girl the next time one of them is pregnant!
Oh yeah - about restless legs syndrome...........my physician said the current thinking is that RLS, like parkinson's disease, is caused by a problem with dopamine. If you have RLS, it in no way means that you have an increased chance of getting parkinson's disease - but RLS sufferers routinely respond to parkinson's drugs.

Congratulations, Gail! You go girl!
I finally got my internet back. It went out last night. We had a storm come through here last night. The wind and rain was really strong last night. Our recycle bin ended up on the other side of the yard.
 everyone.
Bia's teacher still has not complied with the IEP - I am giving the school until the end of today to correct things - after that, I guess I will have to actively pursue correcting things myself. I really do not want to call a due process hearing, but I certainly will.
Fran, I don't know the laws in Montana, but in California this would definitely be a legal violation on the part of both the teacher and the school. Having worked with many IEPs as a regular ed teacher, I just can't fathom what this woman is thinking. The main thing to remember is that parents have much stronger rights than they usually realize and they must be listened to. (Of course California tends to overdo everything  , but I can't imagine the laws in Montana are so terribly different.)
I remember one IEP meeting when the special ed teachers and regular class teachers were all trying to get the parents to understand that they had the right to override a formal recommendation that the kid be dropped from special ed. It was one of those cases where the kid tested out but common sense said she still needed help.
Unfortunately, by law, none of us were allowed to say to the parents, "You can refuse to sign this formal order and insist that we keep your kid in the program." Even more unfortunately, these two parents had no clue about their rights and completely missed the most obvious eye signals and body language that you can imagine. We were just sick when they signed the release but could have faced prosecution if we said anything that might be repeated.
It's always so sad when law trumps common sense but, sadly, most of those laws have been drafted for good reason. It's too bad that you need to go this way, but....
I know how hard it is, but try to be very non-confrontational while being assertive. Once a teacher like this gets defensive, it's very difficult to come up with good solutions for the child. Maybe you can use a line that I often used with difficult parents, "Mrs. ___, please remember that we're not here as adversaries." Then I would say jokingly that no one in her right mind would teach junior high as long as I had unless she had the best interest of the students at heart.
Maybe you could adjust it to, "I know that anyone who teaches works hard and in the best interest of the students, so...." If you can keep that from sticking in your throat, it may disarm her. Worked for me on a lot of disgruntled parents; sometimes people just need to be reminded that parents and teachers have equally difficult jobs but in truth are partners with a common goal.
Let us know and good luck!

Thank you so much for your comments and your support - I cannot tell you how this overwhelms and exhausts me. All I am asking for is a copy of her lecture notes and a study guide for the test. I simply do not see why that should be so hard. She says that she leaves notes on the board for the students to copy - I countered with, "You do not realize what a horrendous task that is for someone who is learning disabled. You have to read the material, hold it in your head, and then write it down. Bia's is never accurate - and I end up having to make numerous phone calls to ask other students and parents to help me decipher it. This is further complicated by the fact that the child cannot spell. Her notes look like a cryptic message. You can save me hours and hours of work every week if you will just give me a copy of your notes. And we need a study guide for tests - she has short term memory problems and until we do things a high enough volume of times to get it into long term memory, it does not stick. You cannot high volume repeat an entire chapter - we need a study guide to whittle it down to a doable amount of information." I am just baffled because I do not feel like I am asking for a lot here - you know she already has notes - just copy them and give them to me. Why is it such a big deal? The woman who interpreted all the test results for Bia said that she was profoundly learning disabled - but we have worked like such dogs, she routinely makes all A's and B's. The lady who lead the meeting said, "Do not be mislead by this child's grades. Had she not had the good fortune to be born into this family where they have been so diligent with regard to her studies, she would not be functioning at any where near this level." I think that is a big part of the problem - this teacher said that Bia is no worse off than any one else in the class and that she would not be following the IEP. I think she is looking at Bia's grades. I only spoke to her for probably less than 5 minutes - I tried to briefly reason with her, but it was very obvious very quickly that she had already made her decision and that she was not going to be swayed by anything that I said. I just stood there and nodded while she rambled on about how her plan was to send Bia out into the hall if she could not keep up with the class and she thought that Bia would do poorly on tests so her grades would probably be pretty low this year, but oh well.......nod nod nod nod. Then I went straight to the lady who is suppose to enforce the IEP and repeated verbatim what the teacher had said. She said she would handle it.....we'll see.

THANK GOODNESS YOU SENT THIS BECAUSE I DESPERATELY NEEDED A GOOD LAUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We had a mentally unbalanced teacher in 5th grade that was very difficult to deal with. My very best friend went by her house everyday for 8 days and threw one egg - she had planned on doing it longer than that, but her husband caught wind of her little antics and put a stop to it. I think that would be a great emotional release -throwing one egg a day, everyday, for 8 days. Then coming back and being sly like a fox and taking picutres of her cleaning up the mess. Does that sound like fun or what?! Here an egg, there an egg, everywhere an egg egg. (I wouldn't really do it - I just like to fantasize about doing it!) PQ FRAN

Chipmunks are cute, but disasterous to attics and eaves, where they like to invade.
[/COLOR][/B]
When I was married to DH#2, we had red fox squirrels invade our attic. They had chewed their way in through the aluminum siding!! Someone told us to put moth balls in the attic as squirrels don't like them and would move out. So we threw moth balls into the attic. The next day, I walked around the end of the house - and there were the moth balls - scattered all over the yard where the squirrels had thrown them out.   Don't remember how we ever solved that problem.
fastforward 17 years
When DH#3 and I bought our current 1870's house and moved into town about 13 years ago, there was a squirrel living between the first and second floor. We would hear him run across the kitchen and dining room ceilings and go outside every morning about 9:00 a.m., come in about 2:00 p.m. for a nap - outside - inside. DH located the squirrel's entry and when the squirrel was outside one warm day, he boarded it up. Then we went on vacation. When we came home, the squirrel had found its way into the main part of the house, made a mess on the kitchen counter, and on the guest bed upstairs, then had let itself out, never to return!

This is the most senseless thing I have seen yet. I checked with my DD (9 years teaching) and my sister-in-law (30 years teaching) and I had 37.5 when I retired. None of us have any idea how this lady even DREAMS of getting away with refusal to comply. It isn't her school system...it is STATE and FEDERALLY mandated.
I agree with everything you have been told so far. She simply cannot say, "I won't". If you are afraid she will take it out on Bia demand a change of teacher, even if it means the system has to provide transportation for Bia to attend a different school.
Good Grief! I cannot imagine!!!

My mom has both Parkinson's and RLS it is so sad to see what she is going through. For her it went hand in hand. In one book I read it said it can be caused by faulty heating systems and we are sure that must be the case for my mom and 3 of her sisters. They lived in a coal mining town and their house did not have proper heating. Carbon monoxide I feel is what ended up taking a tole on 4 little girls. Now only my mom is living.
I don't mean to say Jae Dee that you will end up with Parkinson's, my mom got Parkinson's first. Probably luck of the draw.

Kasha congratulations on LOof the day...what a neat LO, I have gone back and seen it several times and think it is just darling. You deserve to get the honor of LO of the day.
Karen, glad you are getting some time to work on your scrapbook pages....sometimes it is nice to be alone and get some of our things done while the guys are out doing to time out for themselves as well.
PQFran so sorry to hear of all the problems with the teacher...you really do need to get to the bottom of the problem though. I agree with whom ever it was that said you need to get your daughter out of her class even if they have to provide transportation to another school. You need to protect her from people like this teacher.
WVS,WOS WEES, and Whatever anyone else has said...I am tired and finially got to this page when it was the last one. on it. We will see how long that lasts.

Since I've been chatting at work, I can actually scrap at night. In that vein I did another one! Happy Halloween (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=218342)- starring little ole Rutker, last year.

It has been so long since I posted a link to a layout I did I am not sure I am doing it right. I worked on this most of the day, the rest of the day I was on the phone to a Symatec support person who was in India. Trying to get the latest version of of my virus software activated. It was a long slow process but patience at both ends paid off and now it is activated and working, whew. Here is the link. Then I am going to read backwards thru the latests posts and will bbl.

I can see the Lake Erie Islands and Put-in-Bay from here - where Commodore Perry won the Battle of Lake Erie in 1813 to help win the War of 1812. Many believe it was that battle that kept the US/Canadian border running through the Great Lakes instead of moving it south to the Ohio River!

Yep, looooooooong time ago. I was at Six Flags a couple years ago for Homeschool Day, though. My parents are 2 hours SE of Cleveland.
So, you're under Lake Erie, I'm to the Right of it and Laura Lou's to the left. If we all stretch hard enough http://www.angelfire.com/ma4/draghetti/smilies/bigarmhug.gif we can just grab hands! Wouldn't take too many red threads to wrap us all up, huh?

well I only have a second as I have to get up at 4 tomorrow morning but I can tell from all the granny posts on my Grandmother Baylanesh LO that someone must have mentioned it here - and I can't tell you how wonderful it has been to see all those nice comments today (its not been the best of days). Every now and then a LO comes to me in my head like it is already done and I "have to do it" this one was like that and the journaling just came out - you recognized how important this LO was in a way most people would not and I am so glad to know you all and to call you friends - thanks so much for looking and I really wish I had more time to keep up.

Note to self: 'Cancel credit cards prior To death!
Be sure and cancel your credit cards before you die! This is so priceless
And so easy to see happening - customer service, being what it is today!
A lady died this past January, and ANZ bank billed her for February and
March for their annual service charges on her credit card, and
Then added late fees and interest on the monthly charge. The balance had
Been $0.00, now is somewhere around $60.00.
A family member placed a call to the ANZ Bank:
Family Member:
'I am calling to tell you that she died in January.'
ANZ:
'The account was never closed and the late fees and charges still
Apply.'
Family Member:
'Maybe, you should turn it over to collections.'
ANZ:
'Since it is two months past due, it already has been.'
Family Member:
So, what will they do when they find out she is dead?'
ANZ:
'Either report her account to the frauds division or report her to
The credit bureau, maybe both!'
Family Member:
'Do you think God will be mad at her?'
ANZ:
'Excuse me?'
Family Member:
'Did you just get what I was telling you . . . The part about her
Being dead?'
ANZ:
'Sir, you'll have to speak to my supervisor.'
Supervisor gets on the phone:
Family Member:
'I'm calling to tell you, she died in January.'
ANZ:
'The account was never closed and the late fees and charges still
Apply.'
Family Member:
'You mean you want to collect from her estate?'
ANZ:
(Stammer) 'Are you her lawyer?'
Family Member:
'No, I'm her great nephew.'
(Lawyer info given)
ANZ:
'Could you fax us a certificate of death?'
Family Member:
'Sure.'
(fax number is given)
After they get the fax:
ANZ:
'Our system just isn't set up for death. I don't know what more I
Can do to help.'
Family Member:
'Well, if you figure it out, great! If not, you could just keep billing
Her. I don't think she will care.'
ANZ:
'Well, the late fees and charges do still apply.'
Family Member:
'Would you like her new billing address?'
ANZ:
'That might help.'
Family Member:
' Rookwood Memorial Cemetery, 1249 Centenary Rd, Sydney Plot Number
1049.'
ANZ:
'Sir, that's a cemetery!'
Family Member:
'Well, what the ******* do you do with dead people on your planet?'

Sands....read your PM!
You know, I have to wonder how I got through the other deployments without the support, love, and concern of the wonderful friends I have here on our thread.
The attack Sands was referring to occurred at Camp Victory in Baghdad and our guys are not at this FOB, although Daniel has mentioned having been there before. All I know about this attack was that 2 coalition soldiers were killed and many injured. I know I've mentioned to some of you about the growing frequency and intensity of the attacks on the bases, particularly around Baghdad. The weapons that are being used against our soldiers have also been more sophisticated and effective. They are being imported en mass into Iraq by ........um, um,.....ask the president of Columbia University, he should be able to tell you that.
So now I'll shut up - can you tell I'm prone to get a tad bit carried away???
Have a wonderful day/night ladies...throw in an extra prayer for our guys and an extra that this **war** is over soon.

Dags, the credit card/cemetery story is a hoot! I know it could be true--One of my (frustrating) conversations with the insurance company went something like that. I don't think large corporations know the meaning of customer service any more.
Kasha--send good thoughts over to our guys for me, specially that Cervy fella! I don't say much, but he's in my thoughts and prayers daily.
Off to the grind--I'd rather be playing in here! ;)

Good morning ladies, very cold morning here, for sure fall has arrived. I tried to get back last nite to post some comments here and couldn't get back on this page, anyone else ever have that problem? Now I have forgot all the comments I was going to make, except congrats to Gail. I will go back thru and read again, my poor OLD brain must be turning to stone! I did get some nice comments on the layout I posted but have to say I did not do that weave myself, it is part of the quick click of Kim's. I wouldn't want anyone to think I was that talented. That is why I like quick clicks because I have absolutely no artsy skills at all. Pardon my grammar, lol. Years ago when I belonged to a PSP forum we did lessons like that weave, but believe me, now I do not have the patience to do something like that. That is why I liked that quick click so well, already done, click and add. It has a overlay with it and I did softly erase some of it to expose the tree colors better and also did the same to my DIL. BBL I hope, my coffee is done and I have to have my coffee before I face the day. Hubby is up also and he will want to discuss the news, etc., part of our morning routine and I love it. About the only time I can get him to sit down and talk.

I watch Dave Letterman some nights and he was saying how strange the weather has been, like 89 in NY recently. I guess there will be a blizzard next.
It is a bit odd here too, last week one day was 100 then dropped a lot by the next day (it is mid spring here). There was a terrible hail storm in a country town yesterday that did terrible damage. Next it will be plagues of locusts and rivers of blood!!

Found this interesting little tidbit in the morning news :love3: :
http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd317/JakesNana/Skunk.gif Cop comes to rescue of stuck skunk
(CARROLLTON TOWNSHIP, MI) - Officer James Kellett knows it's job to serve and protect -- even when it comes to nature's stinky black and white creatures.
When a skunk with its head stuck in a salad dressing jar wandered into the Carrollton Township police station's parking lot, he grabbed a pellet gun and shot at the jar from about 40 feet away.
The shots cracked and shattered the jar, leaving a glass collar around the skunk's neck. With its head free, the skunk ran off.
"I didn't want to use deadly force, and it is a residential area," Kellett told The Saginaw News. "The way he was when he took off, he was able to eat, breathe and spray -- and do anything else skunks like to do."
Kellett didn't get much in the way of gratitude, but he's grateful the skunk didn't spray. But there is one bonus -- the makers of T. Marzetti's salad dressing are sending the officer coupons good for free dressing as a reward.

Lisa, funny, funny story. Well, I have had my coffee but not sure I am ready to face the day yet so will hide down here in the puter room, lol. Just wanted to say I really like the stylelift that Kash did with a photo she found in some that she bought at a flea market some years ago. It makes me think about the time we were helping my dh folks move from the farm to town. We found a bundle of old photos in the attic but nothing was written on them, no names, no dates. MIL threw them away, I sure wish I had taken those now. So many old photos that would make great scrapbook pages. Oh, the things we regret.

HOW TO CLEAN THE HOUSE
1. Open a new file in your PC.
2. Name it "Housework."
3. Send it to the RECYCLE BIN.
4. Empty the RECYCLE BIN.
5. Your PC will ask you, "Are you sure you want
To delete Housework permanently?"
6. Calmly answer, "Yes," and press mouse button firmly......
7. Feel better?
Works for me!:twins: :twins: :twins: :twins: :twins: :twins:

I use to breed pekingese dogs so I know how hard it is to let go of the puppies, especially the last one! At least I didn't have any allergies to them! I think you'll be relieved once they are gone! That's horrible about the truck getting broke into!

It's west. Have you ever been to Cedar Point? We are just a half hour west of that. My kids go there all the time. Now they are having Hallo-Weekends. They are going again this weekend.
If I look hard enough and it is clear enough I can wave to LauraLou across the lake and up in Michigan! http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd317/JakesNana/jumpers.gif
...and LauraLou will be waving back. We were out into the Lake Sunday...did you see us?

We had a mentally unbalanced teacher in 5th grade that was very difficult to deal with. My very best friend went by her house everyday for 8 days and threw one egg - she had planned on doing it longer than that, but her husband caught wind of her little antics and put a stop to it. I think that would be a great emotional release -throwing one egg a day, everyday, for 8 days. Then coming back and being sly like a fox and taking picutres of her cleaning up the mess. Does that sound like fun or what?! Here an egg, there an egg, everywhere an egg egg. (I wouldn't really do it - I just like to fantasize about doing it!) PQ FRAN
and wouldn't THAT make a great LO!!!!

Hey Dixie.....how close are you to Ft Campbell? I'll be there this weekend and may go over to Nashville on Saturday night with some of the ladies from base. Maybe you could come out and we'd have a chance to say HOWDY!
I'm not sure, I'll have to check, but I'm only about an hour or so away (East) from Nashville! When you get more detail, let me know! I'm THERE!! WITH camera, of course! :yahoo:

What am I fessing about? Do you mean where am I getting my avi's? I am making them silly girl. I have tons and tons of clip art, so it is very easy to do. :D Is there something special that you would like? I don't know if you have seen my mom's (shale) or Heather's (addicted), but I made those too. :)
No wonder when I opened one of Heather's layouts yesterday and saw her avi I thought I was going to see some form of the *gundi* name. Who is Heather, to you?
I now have to do my chatting at work (shhhhhhhhhhhhh, don't tell!:o ) and try to do some scrapping at home, whilst being interrupted every time I flippin' turn around and sleeping less and spending more time and money at DSP.
So how in the heck do I find the time to go looking for all these adorable smilies, avis and make an ATC (yes, I'm whoafully behind)????????????????
I need a scrapping clone!

Yes, Emma is working on something. Did you get the bonus from the last Stylelift Inky, it was a lacey overlay.
I thought you were all kidding about bonuses! I didn't get no stinkin' bonus. Not only did I make a LO (admittedly not so wonderful as most, but I did try!:D ), but I donated two kids to the cause!
