Had to work yesterday, but while I was there, dh found out that someone broke into our truck, removed the light bulbs so the they wouldn't be seen, rifled through everything, stealing any money they could find, some very expensive binoculars, CDs and whatever else they could get their grubby, filthy thieving hands on! Urrrrrggggghhhhh! Makes me so mad!

~ here's one y'all might get a chuckle out of ~

~ my youngest son got out of the USMC last month ~ he & dil and baby moved back up here for three months til he starts college ~ since last Thursday, i've learned that he isn't going to get cable cuz he's living 4 doors down from us and they can come watch one of our tv's & we have cable internet, with wireless so dh can work when he's home, so they will just use our wireless, too ~ they left their washer & dryer with his older brother in NC cuz they can use ours (and our water) for 3 short months ~ dil doesn't like cooking all that much, so they show up each evening at about 6 to see what's on the stove ~

~ i am so happy they have their own place

~ gotta love it, but i really am so glad they came up here for the three months ~ i'm loving seeing my 6 month old dgd every day :love2:

Shawn - I definitely need some redneck whoop a$$ for Bia's teacher. Could you send me some please? Hope your kidlets feel better soon.

Gail - thanks for the IEP info and congratulations on the nat'l competition You so rock.

Kasha - congratulations on Kevin' Bronze star and LOTD.

SSSNOO - thank you so much for the IEP info - I am headed to Barnes and Noble right now to find a book on Wright's Law.

Bia's teacher still has not complied with the IEP - I am giving the school until the end of today to correct things - after that, I guess I will have to actively pursue correcting things myself. I really do not want to call a due process hearing, but I certainly will.

I should be going to bed. Congrats to Crys on the new grandson. I have to say I am a bit jealous. With four children you would think I could get more than one grandchild. Or is that being selfish? WOS and WVS to all.

Just thought I'd jump right in here! I have 4 children and I thought I'd NEVER have any grandchildren, something so important to me back then :) . But I'm here to tell you... watch out what you ask for!

My oldest & only daughter is now 34 years old. My sons are 23, 28, and 29. My oldest son had the first child (boy) in May; then that November, my daughter gave birth to Lucas. My youngest son has a child (another boy) born in Jan 2004 and my middle son (28) has a boy born Feb 2004. AND yes, they are all boys! we're now praying for a girl the next time one of them is pregnant!

Oh yeah - about restless legs syndrome...........my physician said the current thinking is that RLS, like parkinson's disease, is caused by a problem with dopamine. If you have RLS, it in no way means that you have an increased chance of getting parkinson's disease - but RLS sufferers routinely respond to parkinson's drugs.

Bia's teacher still has not complied with the IEP - I am giving the school until the end of today to correct things - after that, I guess I will have to actively pursue correcting things myself. I really do not want to call a due process hearing, but I certainly will.

Fran, I don't know the laws in Montana, but in California this would definitely be a legal violation on the part of both the teacher and the school. Having worked with many IEPs as a regular ed teacher, I just can't fathom what this woman is thinking. The main thing to remember is that parents have much stronger rights than they usually realize and they must be listened to. (Of course California tends to overdo everything  , but I can't imagine the laws in Montana are so terribly different.)

I remember one IEP meeting when the special ed teachers and regular class teachers were all trying to get the parents to understand that they had the right to override a formal recommendation that the kid be dropped from special ed. It was one of those cases where the kid tested out but common sense said she still needed help.

Unfortunately, by law, none of us were allowed to say to the parents, "You can refuse to sign this formal order and insist that we keep your kid in the program." Even more unfortunately, these two parents had no clue about their rights and completely missed the most obvious eye signals and body language that you can imagine. We were just sick when they signed the release but could have faced prosecution if we said anything that might be repeated.

It's always so sad when law trumps common sense but, sadly, most of those laws have been drafted for good reason. It's too bad that you need to go this way, but....

I know how hard it is, but try to be very non-confrontational while being assertive. Once a teacher like this gets defensive, it's very difficult to come up with good solutions for the child. Maybe you can use a line that I often used with difficult parents, "Mrs. ___, please remember that we're not here as adversaries." Then I would say jokingly that no one in her right mind would teach junior high as long as I had unless she had the best interest of the students at heart.

Maybe you could adjust it to, "I know that anyone who teaches works hard and in the best interest of the students, so...." If you can keep that from sticking in your throat, it may disarm her. Worked for me on a lot of disgruntled parents; sometimes people just need to be reminded that parents and teachers have equally difficult jobs but in truth are partners with a common goal.

Let us know and good luck!

Thank you so much for your comments and your support - I cannot tell you how this overwhelms and exhausts me. All I am asking for is a copy of her lecture notes and a study guide for the test. I simply do not see why that should be so hard. She says that she leaves notes on the board for the students to copy - I countered with, "You do not realize what a horrendous task that is for someone who is learning disabled. You have to read the material, hold it in your head, and then write it down. Bia's is never accurate - and I end up having to make numerous phone calls to ask other students and parents to help me decipher it. This is further complicated by the fact that the child cannot spell. Her notes look like a cryptic message. You can save me hours and hours of work every week if you will just give me a copy of your notes. And we need a study guide for tests - she has short term memory problems and until we do things a high enough volume of times to get it into long term memory, it does not stick. You cannot high volume repeat an entire chapter - we need a study guide to whittle it down to a doable amount of information." I am just baffled because I do not feel like I am asking for a lot here - you know she already has notes - just copy them and give them to me. Why is it such a big deal? The woman who interpreted all the test results for Bia said that she was profoundly learning disabled - but we have worked like such dogs, she routinely makes all A's and B's. The lady who lead the meeting said, "Do not be mislead by this child's grades. Had she not had the good fortune to be born into this family where they have been so diligent with regard to her studies, she would not be functioning at any where near this level." I think that is a big part of the problem - this teacher said that Bia is no worse off than any one else in the class and that she would not be following the IEP. I think she is looking at Bia's grades. I only spoke to her for probably less than 5 minutes - I tried to briefly reason with her, but it was very obvious very quickly that she had already made her decision and that she was not going to be swayed by anything that I said. I just stood there and nodded while she rambled on about how her plan was to send Bia out into the hall if she could not keep up with the class and she thought that Bia would do poorly on tests so her grades would probably be pretty low this year, but oh well.......nod nod nod nod. Then I went straight to the lady who is suppose to enforce the IEP and repeated verbatim what the teacher had said. She said she would handle it.....we'll see.

We had a mentally unbalanced teacher in 5th grade that was very difficult to deal with. My very best friend went by her house everyday for 8 days and threw one egg - she had planned on doing it longer than that, but her husband caught wind of her little antics and put a stop to it. I think that would be a great emotional release -throwing one egg a day, everyday, for 8 days. Then coming back and being sly like a fox and taking picutres of her cleaning up the mess. Does that sound like fun or what?! Here an egg, there an egg, everywhere an egg egg. (I wouldn't really do it - I just like to fantasize about doing it!) PQ FRAN

Chipmunks are cute, but disasterous to attics and eaves, where they like to invade.

When I was married to DH#2, we had red fox squirrels invade our attic. They had chewed their way in through the aluminum siding!! Someone told us to put moth balls in the attic as squirrels don't like them and would move out. So we threw moth balls into the attic. The next day, I walked around the end of the house - and there were the moth balls - scattered all over the yard where the squirrels had thrown them out.   Don't remember how we ever solved that problem.

fastforward 17 years

When DH#3 and I bought our current 1870's house and moved into town about 13 years ago, there was a squirrel living between the first and second floor. We would hear him run across the kitchen and dining room ceilings and go outside every morning about 9:00 a.m., come in about 2:00 p.m. for a nap - outside - inside. DH located the squirrel's entry and when the squirrel was outside one warm day, he boarded it up. Then we went on vacation. When we came home, the squirrel had found its way into the main part of the house, made a mess on the kitchen counter, and on the guest bed upstairs, then had let itself out, never to return!

Thanks for the link Dixie!
Thank you so much for your comments and your support - I cannot tell you how this overwhelms and exhausts me. All I am asking for is a copy of her lecture notes and a study guide for the test. [I]I

This is the most senseless thing I have seen yet. I checked with my DD (9 years teaching) and my sister-in-law (30 years teaching) and I had 37.5 when I retired. None of us have any idea how this lady even DREAMS of getting away with refusal to comply. It isn't her school system...it is STATE and FEDERALLY mandated.

I agree with everything you have been told so far. She simply cannot say, "I won't". If you are afraid she will take it out on Bia demand a change of teacher, even if it means the system has to provide transportation for Bia to attend a different school.

Good Grief! I cannot imagine!!!

Thanks for the Halloween blinkies DM:), we dont do Halloween in any big way in Aus but I though I would get into the "spirit" of things and change my avatar to match all you upovers. Welcome back Robbie!!

Congrats Gail! Please let us know ASAP how you entry does in Nationals!!

I take a Parkinson's disease drug for my RLS. Nice to know that it won't turn into Parkinson's!

Have a wonderful a day!!

JaeDee

My mom has both Parkinson's and RLS it is so sad to see what she is going through. For her it went hand in hand. In one book I read it said it can be caused by faulty heating systems and we are sure that must be the case for my mom and 3 of her sisters. They lived in a coal mining town and their house did not have proper heating. Carbon monoxide I feel is what ended up taking a tole on 4 little girls. Now only my mom is living.
I don't mean to say Jae Dee that you will end up with Parkinson's, my mom got Parkinson's first. Probably luck of the draw.

Kasha congratulations on LOof the day...what a neat LO, I have gone back and seen it several times and think it is just darling. You deserve to get the honor of LO of the day.
Karen, glad you are getting some time to work on your scrapbook pages....sometimes it is nice to be alone and get some of our things done while the guys are out doing to time out for themselves as well.
PQFran so sorry to hear of all the problems with the teacher...you really do need to get to the bottom of the problem though. I agree with whom ever it was that said you need to get your daughter out of her class even if they have to provide transportation to another school. You need to protect her from people like this teacher.
WVS,WOS WEES, and Whatever anyone else has said...I am tired and finially got to this page when it was the last one. on it. We will see how long that lasts.
I have enjoyed going to all the links and posting notes to you. Freda what ever you do don't stop doing those Stylelift LOs they are wonderful.

I can't even begin to get caught up when I miss a few days. Things are popping at work and home - don't even know where to start. Our client conference is this week and I'm a speaker - so I have my hands full.

Having said that :)

Vallie - Gothic Waffler :)

Jill (Evergreen) - Amazing layout - I don't care where it goes, but it should be seen.

All those who are hunting for grandchildren - keep your eyes off mine :) :)

Gail - I can't think of anyone who could possibly represent DSP better than you in the Scrap Pink thingie. You are such a lovely scrapper and an inspiration to all of us. As for your house - you are an artist, you can digitize the mess away!!

DixieMama - sounds like you have your hands full with shotup and sick kids. Hang in there - eventually they don't need shots anymore (but then it is other things, haha)

Joyce (JaeDee) - 500th Layout! Congrats

Debbie (Kasha) - Congrats on Kev's bronze star. Too bad they can't earning them being heroes somewhere safe and comfortable - but I hope they know how very much we appreciate them.

So many of you are in my prayers. We need to get rid of all these chronic illnesses AND leg cramps.

WOS, WVS, WEES and all -

HOW TO CLEAN THE HOUSE
1. Open a new file in your PC.
2. Name it "Housework."
3. Send it to the RECYCLE BIN.
4. Empty the RECYCLE BIN.
5. Your PC will ask you, "Are you sure you want
To delete Housework permanently?"
6. Calmly answer, "Yes," and press mouse button firmly......
7. Feel better?

It has been so long since I posted a link to a layout I did I am not sure I am doing it right. I worked on this most of the day, the rest of the day I was on the phone to a Symatec support person who was in India. Trying to get the latest version of of my virus software activated. It was a long slow process but patience at both ends paid off and now it is activated and working, whew. Here is the link. Then I am going to read backwards thru the latests posts and will bbl.

I can see the Lake Erie Islands and Put-in-Bay from here - where Commodore Perry won the Battle of Lake Erie in 1813 to help win the War of 1812. Many believe it was that battle that kept the US/Canadian border running through the Great Lakes instead of moving it south to the Ohio River!

Every now and then a LO comes to me in my head like it is already done and I "have to do it" this one was like that and the journaling just came out - you recognized how important this LO was in a way most people would not and I am so glad to know you all and to call you friends - thanks so much for looking and I really wish I had more time to keep up.

Note to self: 'Cancel credit cards prior To death!
Be sure and cancel your credit cards before you die! This is so priceless
And so easy to see happening - customer service, being what it is today!

A lady died this past January, and ANZ bank billed her for February and
March for their annual service charges on her credit card, and
Then added late fees and interest on the monthly charge. The balance had
Been $0.00, now is somewhere around $60.00.

A family member placed a call to the ANZ Bank:

Family Member:
'I am calling to tell you that she died in January.'
ANZ:
'The account was never closed and the late fees and charges still
Apply.'
Family Member:
'Maybe, you should turn it over to collections.'
ANZ:
'Since it is two months past due, it already has been.'
Family Member:
So, what will they do when they find out she is dead?'
ANZ:
'Either report her account to the frauds division or report her to
The credit bureau, maybe both!'
Family Member:
'Do you think God will be mad at her?'
ANZ:
'Excuse me?'
Family Member:
'Did you just get what I was telling you . . . The part about her
Being dead?'
ANZ:
'Sir, you'll have to speak to my supervisor.'
Supervisor gets on the phone:
Family Member:
'I'm calling to tell you, she died in January.'
ANZ:
'The account was never closed and the late fees and charges still
Apply.'
Family Member:
'You mean you want to collect from her estate?'
ANZ:
(Stammer) 'Are you her lawyer?'
Family Member:
'No, I'm her great nephew.'
(Lawyer info given)
ANZ:
'Could you fax us a certificate of death?'
Family Member:
'Sure.'
(fax number is given)

After they get the fax:

ANZ:
'Our system just isn't set up for death. I don't know what more I
Can do to help.'
Family Member:
'Well, if you figure it out, great! If not, you could just keep billing
Her. I don't think she will care.'
ANZ:
'Well, the late fees and charges do still apply.'
Family Member:
'Would you like her new billing address?'
ANZ:
'That might help.'
Family Member:
' Rookwood Memorial Cemetery, 1249 Centenary Rd, Sydney Plot Number
1049.'

ANZ:
'Sir, that's a cemetery!'
Family Member:
'Well, what the ******* do you do with dead people on your planet?'

Sands....read your PM!

You know, I have to wonder how I got through the other deployments without the support, love, and concern of the wonderful friends I have here on our thread.

The attack Sands was referring to occurred at Camp Victory in Baghdad and our guys are not at this FOB, although Daniel has mentioned having been there before. All I know about this attack was that 2 coalition soldiers were killed and many injured. I know I've mentioned to some of you about the growing frequency and intensity of the attacks on the bases, particularly around Baghdad. The weapons that are being used against our soldiers have also been more sophisticated and effective. They are being imported en mass into Iraq by ........um, um,.....ask the president of Columbia University, he should be able to tell you that.

So now I'll shut up - can you tell I'm prone to get a tad bit carried away???

Have a wonderful day/night ladies...throw in an extra prayer for our guys and an extra that this **war** is over soon.

Just noticed that my photo count blinkie is gone again...it came back before, I'll trust that it will come back again! :ron:

Dags, the credit card/cemetery story is a hoot! I know it could be true--One of my (frustrating) conversations with the insurance company went something like that. I don't think large corporations know the meaning of customer service any more.

Kasha--send good thoughts over to our guys for me, specially that Cervy fella! I don't say much, but he's in my thoughts and prayers daily.

Off to the grind--I'd rather be playing in here! ;)

WOS & WVS, y'all! (I'm scared to add anything else! and actually, I might have to use that WVS with a little more caution...ribbit!)

Good morning ladies, very cold morning here, for sure fall has arrived. I tried to get back last nite to post some comments here and couldn't get back on this page, anyone else ever have that problem? Now I have forgot all the comments I was going to make, except congrats to Gail. I will go back thru and read again, my poor OLD brain must be turning to stone! I did get some nice comments on the layout I posted but have to say I did not do that weave myself, it is part of the quick click of Kim's. I wouldn't want anyone to think I was that talented. That is why I like quick clicks because I have absolutely no artsy skills at all. Pardon my grammar, lol. Years ago when I belonged to a PSP forum we did lessons like that weave, but believe me, now I do not have the patience to do something like that. That is why I liked that quick click so well, already done, click and add. It has a overlay with it and I did softly erase some of it to expose the tree colors better and also did the same to my DIL. BBL I hope, my coffee is done and I have to have my coffee before I face the day. Hubby is up also and he will want to discuss the news, etc., part of our morning routine and I love it. About the only time I can get him to sit down and talk.

I watch Dave Letterman some nights and he was saying how strange the weather has been, like 89 in NY recently. I guess there will be a blizzard next.
It is a bit odd here too, last week one day was 100 then dropped a lot by the next day (it is mid spring here). There was a terrible hail storm in a country town yesterday that did terrible damage. Next it will be plagues of locusts and rivers of blood!!

Found this interesting little tidbit in the morning news :love3: :

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd317/JakesNana/Skunk.gif Cop comes to rescue of stuck skunk

(CARROLLTON TOWNSHIP, MI) - Officer James Kellett knows it's job to serve and protect -- even when it comes to nature's stinky black and white creatures.

When a skunk with its head stuck in a salad dressing jar wandered into the Carrollton Township police station's parking lot, he grabbed a pellet gun and shot at the jar from about 40 feet away.

The shots cracked and shattered the jar, leaving a glass collar around the skunk's neck. With its head free, the skunk ran off.

"I didn't want to use deadly force, and it is a residential area," Kellett told The Saginaw News. "The way he was when he took off, he was able to eat, breathe and spray -- and do anything else skunks like to do."

Kellett didn't get much in the way of gratitude, but he's grateful the skunk didn't spray. But there is one bonus -- the makers of T. Marzetti's salad dressing are sending the officer coupons good for free dressing as a reward.

Lisa, funny, funny story. Well, I have had my coffee but not sure I am ready to face the day yet so will hide down here in the puter room, lol. Just wanted to say I really like the stylelift that Kash did with a photo she found in some that she bought at a flea market some years ago. It makes me think about the time we were helping my dh folks move from the farm to town. We found a bundle of old photos in the attic but nothing was written on them, no names, no dates. MIL threw them away, I sure wish I had taken those now. So many old photos that would make great scrapbook pages. Oh, the things we regret.

I use to breed pekingese dogs so I know how hard it is to let go of the puppies, especially the last one! At least I didn't have any allergies to them! I think you'll be relieved once they are gone! That's horrible about the truck getting broke into! Hey good morning to you all. I have been trying to catch up with all of you, but I was SEVENTEEN pages behind after a day and a half. :D Had to work yesterday, but while I was there, dh found out that someone broke into our truck, removed the light bulbs so the they wouldn't be seen, rifled through everything, stealing any money they could find, some very expensive binoculars, CDs and whatever else they could get their grubby, filthy thieving hands on! Urrrrrggggghhhhh! Makes me so mad!

On the good news front, two of our puppies have gone to good homes, and a third is being picked up today. Tomorrow, we have 2 sets of people that are interested in buying 2 each, so if those all go as planned, I should be puppy free by Friday! :yahoo: I have to admit I am a little sad to see them go, but I am so stinking allergic to them, it will be a relief, as well. I have been double dosing my allergy meds, and doing a nasal inhaler, none of which is helping all that much. Besides you should see our backyard, what a mess!!!!!! Keep your fingers and toes crossed for me, or as Sandy said "hold your thumbs" or something like that.

It's west. Have you ever been to Cedar Point? We are just a half hour west of that. My kids go there all the time. Now they are having Hallo-Weekends. They are going again this weekend.

If I look hard enough and it is clear enough I can wave to LauraLou across the lake and up in Michigan! http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd317/JakesNana/jumpers.gif

GOOD MORNING, LADIES!!

I had to use the heat this morning for the first time since March! And, just like last winter, after the darned thing came on, the compressor fried, and the breaker tripped. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v292/pixiemom71/Blinks%20and%20Such/hopmad.gifhttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v292/pixiemom71/Blinks%20and%20Such/hopmad.gifhttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v292/pixiemom71/Blinks%20and%20Such/hopmad.gifhttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v292/pixiemom71/Blinks%20and%20Such/hopmad.gifhttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v292/pixiemom71/Blinks%20and%20Such/hopmad.gif Now my house smells like burnt plastic! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v292/pixiemom71/Blinks%20and%20Such/sick0022.gifhttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v292/pixiemom71/Blinks%20and%20Such/sick0022.gifhttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v292/pixiemom71/Blinks%20and%20Such/sick0022.gif

I JUST spent $650 on a NEW compressor 3 months ago, for crying out loud! And it wasn't technicallly MY responsibility because we are RENTING! Grrrr!!!!!! If we weren't already behind in rent (from financial issues last year), I'd totally take him to court over all of the issues we've had to deal with on our own because he refuses to take care of his responsibilities. The only reason I broke down and replaced the compressor in the first place was because it was mid-summer, and the temp in this house would reach over 120 degrees by noon. The kids and I were absolutely miserable, as was my hubby when he'd get home on the weekends.

So now I have to call the company that we're still paying for the new compressor and hope that they'll come out and investigate for me. I really can't afford any more outgoing expenses, since the company my husband works for isn't getting him enough mileage to barely cover the basics right now.

*sigh*

When it rains, it pours.....

I'll try to pop on in a little while.

:love1: --------- ---------

... BBL I hope, my coffee is done and I have to have my coffee before I face the day. Hubby is up also and he will want to discuss the news, etc., part of our morning routine and I love it. About the only time I can get him to sit down and talk.

Gosh, Marcia, my DH and I have an intellectual conversation every morning of our lives and he doesn't even need to have coffee, although I do! It goes something like this:

I'm in the bathroom, getting presentable for the "real world". DH comes tripping down the stairs, enters bathroom for his morning pee. I say, "Can't you wait?" He says " ". (That's nothing, in case you couldn't figure it out! )

He fnishes and grabs his clothes, which I have so thoughtfully and lovingly laid out, and heads out the door. I say, "Can't you at least flush?" He says " ". (You've caught on to what that means by now, right? )

I finish my routine, grab a cup of coffee and head for the 'puter. He says (at last!:D ) "What's the weather?" I say "Dunno"! (I can't be nearly as brief as he, but I try! :p )

Time passes and it's time for me to go to work. I say "Your truck's in the way AGAIN; can you please move it?" (Politeness is soooooo embedded in me! :D ) He says " " and schlubbs out the door to move the truck.

I come out the door and somewhere in the "outside world" he has found his voice. So, he says "Have a good day. Be careful. I love you." (Ain't he grand?     ) I say "You, too!", which he finds to be a perfectly reasonable response! :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

Hi, Vicki! Glad you are feeling so chipper - even if it is a French Vanilla Cappacino high!

Kasha - Congratulations on another LOTD a couple of days ago! Really neat layout! I haven't caught up on all of your posts, but I know it was going to be a while before Daniel could contact you again. You probably don't know which of the soldiers has which of the newly-deployed grannies, and I'm sure that is the least of your concerns. KEV - Congratulations on your Bronze Star!!! :yahoo:

Sands - HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DEAR SANDS! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! (I trust that we flatties are all behaving properly and with great decorum and dignity at your birthday party. )

Dags - Thanks for the final solution for 'housework.' It will work for me, but I'm not sure that DH will understand! Love the credit card/cemetery story. Too true! (Heard about a widow telling a persistent caller who wasn't listening to her explanation that he had died, "He doesn't LIVE here anymore. You want a phone number where he can be reached???" She gave him the phone number of the local cemetery!)

JenniLynn - Praying for you for all your procedures today and tomorrow and for your health to improve.

Marcia - "Hi!" Good to see you around here again.

Sounds like this teacher has some lessons to learn - and that you get to be her teacher!!!
         (Just love that dictionary!)

Claire - Way to go on your persistence in making all those changes to your layout.

Ann - Don't leave us! Come back and visit - often. Don't worry about keeping up!

Vallie - For your 'name,' how about "Classy, funny, Lady who is an extraordinarily talented gothic artist and poet, who is inspired whilst cleaning the loo, who is a good friend and encourager to all, and who has a slightly twisted, and somewhat dark, sense of humor." :yahoo:

About Emma's posting bonus for the Vallie StyleLift - She posted a link to it midway through the StyleLift thread and didn't pm it to anyone. It was a pretty lace overlay.

DixieMama - Hope that company responds quickly and fixes the compressor without further expense for you. They should!!!

Prayers and hugs for Carma and DH, Helene and DH, PQ Fran, Lindy, Yolanda, Ann, Jennilynn, and the rest of you.

DM, I think you will need these

That's a hoot -- and appropriate for a scary holiday especially since I used to be a chain smoker.  Hmmm, do you suppose there's a Freudian undertone in my usual avatar????

I quit nearly thirty years ago BTW, and I think this is interesting. People who knew me back then will say, "I still have trouble seeing you without a cigarette in your hand," and everyone who has known me since says the opposite. I think we must keep some kind of mental picture of people as they were when we first saw them. Cool -- that means I'm still young and skinny to a whole host of people!!

I'm with you, Omio; I quit 25 years ago and I have trouble seeing me without a cigarette in my hand!

I'm 99% sure I would never go back to smoking again, but sometimes when I picture myself living my "real life", I see me sitting at the kitchen table, drinking coffee and having a cigarette. I abhor that taste and smell (by now!); but somehow that scene appeals to me!

OK, my bad! I didn't post my layout in the Stylelift Gallery. :o So, I went to move it, but with this new format, could not figure out how to do it. :ron: :ron: :ron: Could someone please help?  Thanks!

Crys, I went into Edit Photo on one of my layouts and experimented. On the line where it says Category on the left and has a pull down list on the right, I pulled down the list and changed it to a different category (from Stylelist to DSP member) then did a 'submit changes' and it changed the location to the DSP member gallery. Then I did another 'edit photo' and changed the category back to Stylelist and it put it back in the Stylelist gallery.

Thanks everyone for their birthday wishes!!!! Is it normal to be so emotional about one's 40th??? Oh Gosh, I hope I don't get all leaky at my party!!! I've managed to find a very capable lady who will pratically run the show for me on Saturday, so I can go and have my hair and nails done with peace of mind on Saturday morning!

I've tried to get you grannies out and about, but you just don't want to know my story..... you're all resting (jet lagged me thinks) and shove me away from the suitcase whenever I go to get you out!!!

I thought I would quickly throw together a page today with a QC!!!! Well it definitely didn't turn out to be a QUICK click at all!!! I had the right photo's but just could not come up with the right kit combination. I finally settled for Meryl's Namibia Kit.

Thanks Gundi for the help with the title!!!

Me, too, sometimes. And there are times when I walk by someone smoking a cigarette and it just smells so GOOD...especially with a margarita in hand.

Don't know if you had as many people as I did trying to sabotage my quitting all those years ago (not friends or family), but I was sooooo hooked physically and people would say -- like I just did -- "it's been 90 years and I still want a cigarette." What they always fail to mention is that it's a passing thought, not a CRAVING. Teensy tinesy bit of difference there.

And Then There Were TWO!

Well the one guy didn't come through, although he is still a possibility, but three more puppies found good homes today. Two of them went to the same family and my those dogs are going to be loved and spoiled. They are the parents of my sister's best friend. They have been friends almost since birth and, of course, she knows the family very well. So the other day, her parents mentioned looking for 2 new labs and my sister said I know where you can get some good ones. These people absolutely adore animals, even have a heated indoor dog run, so the poor things don't get too cold  and take their dogs hiking almost every single day. We are ecstatic to know they will be well taken care of. The other one has been sold since he was only 3 weeks old and the new owner picked him up today and he is also very excited to have him. So not quite free of puppies, but we are getting close. Hopefully the one guy works it out so he can take the last two and then I should be able to breathe again. :yahoo:

I have posted another layout. It takes me forever to do one layout, I am envious of you gals who seem to be able to do two and sometimes more in a day. Just to show you how much trouble I have remembering to comment on this and that I will tell you what happened to me today. This morning hubby and I had a early appt. and on our way I came to the realization I had not put my partial in! Gads, talk about feeling dumb. Anyway we didn't have time to turn around and go back and make the appt on time so I had to keep my mouth shut and let dh do all the talking. He thought it was pretty funny, not me! I know you will miss the puppies Gundi, puppies and babies, so darn cute. Here is the link to my layout, thanks for looking. I am off to visit the gallery.

Hey everyone !!! Hope all is well in all your different little corners of the world ! I am still DownUnder so most of you are still fast asleep  I only ever get about 10 minutes at a time on DD's computer ..and then it is soooo slow all I want to do is turf it out the door !!...so I'm very sorry not to have touched base more often but I spend my allotted time trying to catch up here and then just making a hash of it anyway !!:love2:
I can't believe how our time here has flown ..it has been so wonderful being within hugging distance of my little vegemites ..Jack and Zoe.. who seem to have sprouted up under my nose !! Jack had his 4th birthday a while back and we had a Pirate party !! Huge fun and fantastic to be part of !!(over a million pics to scrap !!)
Ofcourse the absolute highlight of our time here was meeting all the gorgeous DownUnders..I have already told you about our Aussie Angel Jill ..who I left with a heavy heart  ..then on to Melbourne . We found Dags bright and early (she was COOKING !!!!  )..what a sweetheart she is (but then we all know that don't we ??) She has a beautiful smile that just lights up the room and THE most infectious belly laugh !! We laughed and laughed and hugged and hugged  ..I saw piles of her beautiful albums and was SO inspired ! She then took us on a tram ride to see Melbourne ..what a lovely city !!
After a whirl wind tour we met up with Inky ! Inky is gorgeous and gracious and tall and so warm and funny !! She made lunch for us.. What a spoil !! Gorgeous quiche and salad and yummy Italian bikkies and REAL cappachino !! (She has a fabulous coffee machine...I HAVE to have one too :D !!) The afternoon just flew as we discussed each and everyone of you in detail !!! We just yakked and yakked as though we had known each other forever (which I guess we have !! )We also got the meet the famous Ryan ..! What a bright spark ..he showed us some amazing intricate 3D stuff (waaaay beyond me !!) that he's working on ..Howard was VERY impressed !! Inky has some AMAZING framed photography hanging in her beautiful home ..there are VERY talented photgraphers in that family ! All too soon it was time to catch the ferry to Tasmania and after being plied with chokkies :yahoo:  :love2: from Dags:hug: (nearly sunk the ferry on the way back !!  ) I VERY reluctently left them !!
I have some lovely pics to share but still trying to get to grips with photobucket ! That is one thing I meant to ask Vallie to explain..talking of Vallie .....YES our VALLIE ..the GOTHICKY Scary one !!!!...will have to tell you all about her next time !! My allotted time expired ages ago and I am being glared at !!!!
Huge hugs to all and keep those red threads VERY tightly wrapped !! Hope to chat again soon !:love1: :love1: :love1:

This is for you and the boys:          Did you hear from Helene after she did not show up in Cancun??

PQ {Prospective Quadrater (Looking-toward-the-future to-make-something-[someone]-CONFORM)} Fran So sorry that you are having to deal with this teacher who has such an incredibly poor attitude toward Bia and her IEP.

This post is not complete or comprehensive.(Translation - I give up on totally catching up - having missed too many pages, besides I can't remember what all I DID read). Any mistakes or omissions are the sole responsibility of the author (who, me???) and are not intended to diminish the worth of any grannies so rudely treated.

Speaking of geneology....does anyone have any idea what page(s) in this thread has all those super helpful links for the free researching sites that we were discussing a week or so ago? I'm wanting to start up, since I'm not getting anywhere with my family. It'd take me DAYS to flip back through every page on dial up!

:yahoo:   Congratulations again, Marcia (mn53022) on LOTD!! Our Grannies really ARE chalking up the honors on the ol' blog, aren't they? WTG!!  :yahoo:

Would you believe I did 7 layouts this week already? 2 of them are re-do's for the one's I lost last week, but the other 5 were for challenges. No wonder my eyes are so tired!

 If I can get 3 done tomorrow, I can enter into Scrapping with the Stars!

That, and I'm also starting to get my calendars made for Christmas presents. Luckily, it also happens to be Kim's Digital De*Lights (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27081) challenge, as well! Nothing like a good shove in the right direction, huh? :D

Thanks gals, for all the "way to go" comments. I was so surprised when I found it out I about fell out of my chair. I did a layout tonight of another pic taken in Park City. I am about wore out tho, it takes me so long to complete a layout, lol. Vicki, those little kissy faces are so cute. I am sure the guys will love them. You must become the official emoticon lady of the thread. I don't think I remembered to thank Dags for the housework solution, works for me! WOS and WVS to everyone. Thanks Vicki! I'll be sure to print this out and send it on to them.....good timing too, I'll be sending out some boxes this weekend.

This is also the perfect prompt for me to ask something of my dear friends here....it KILLS me to ask anyone to do anything, except for when it comes to the guys - then I have no compunction at all.

For many of the soldiers, this will be their 4th.....count them....4 years away from their families over the holidays and it is undoubtedly the hardest times of their deployment. If any of you would be inclined to make a holiday card for them, I would print them out on quality papers and forward them to our guys. I can't begin to describe to you how much it would touch them to know that you took the time to do something special just for them. For those of you who know who your soldiers are, maybe you would want to do one just for them or just one for the entire unit.

To ensure delivery by the holidays, I would have to mail them during the last week of November, so there's plenty of time.

Thanks so much in advance for letting me plead for "the cause" and lots of      for those of you who help make a difference in our soldier's lives.

do any of you remember flour sacks? I just received this in an email and it brought back memories.

IN THAT LONG AGO TIME WHEN THINGS WERE SAVED,
WHEN ROADS WERE GRAVELED AND BARRELS WERE STAVED,
WHEN WORN-OUT CLOTHING WAS USED AS RAGS,
AND THERE WERE NO PLASTIC WRAP OR BAGS,
AND THE WELL AND THE PUMP WERE WAY OUT BACK,
A VERSITILE ITEM, WAS THE FLOUR SACK.

PILLSBURY'S BEST, MOTHER'S AND GOLD MEDAL, TOO
STAMPED THEIR NAMES PROUDLY IN PURPLE AND BLUE.

THE STRING SEWN ON TOP WAS PULLED AND KEPT;
THE FLOUR EMPTIED AND SPILLS WERE SWEPT.
THE BAG WAS FOLDED AND STORED IN A SACK
THAT DURABLE, PRACTICAL FLOUR SACK.

THE SACK COULD BE FILLED WITH FEATHERS AND DOWN,
FOR A PILLOW, OR T'WOULD MAKE A NICE SLEEPING GOWN.
IT COULD CARRY A BOOK AND BE A SCHOOL BAG,
OR BECOME A MAIL SACK SLUNG OVER A NAG.
IT MADE A VERY CONVENIENT PACK,
THAT ADAPTABLE, COTTON FLOUR SACK.

BLEACHED AND SEWN, IT WAS DUTIFULLY WORN
AS BIBS, DIAPERS, OR KERCHIEF ADORNED.
IT WAS MADE INTO SKIRTS, BLOUSES AND SLIPS.
AND MOM BRAIDED RUGS FROM ONE HUNDRED STRIPS
SHE MADE RUFFLED CURTAINS FOR THE HOUSE OR SHACK,
FROM THAT HUMBLE BUT TREASURED FLOUR SACK!

AS A STRAINER FOR MILK OR APPLE JUICE,
TO WAVE MEN IN, IT WAS A VERY GOOD USE,
AS A SLING FOR A SPRAINED WRIST OR A BREAK,
TO HELP MOTHER ROLL UP A JELLY CAKE,
AS A WINDOW SHADE OR TO STUFF A CRACK,
WE USED A STURDY, COMMON FLOUR SACK!

AS DISH TOWELS, EMBROIDERED OR NOT,
THEY COVERED UP DOUGH, HELPED PASS PANS SO HOT,
TIED UP DISHES FOR NEIGHBORS IN NEED,
AND FOR MEN OUT IN THE FIELD TO SEED.
THEY DRIED DISHES FROM PAN, NOT RACK
THAT ABSORBENT, HANDY FLOUR SACK!

WE POLISHED AND CLEANED STOVE AND TABLE,
SCOURED AND SCRUBBED FROM CELLAR TO GABLE,
WE DUSTED THE BUREAU AND OAK BED POST,
MADE COSTUMES FOR OCTOBER (A SCARY GHOST)
AND A PARACHUTE FOR A CAT NAMED JACK.
FROM THAT LOWLY, USEFUL OLD FLOUR SACK!

SO NOW MY FRIENDS, WHEN THEY ASK YOU
AS CURIOUS YOUNGSTERS OFTEN DO,
"BEFORE PLASTIC WRAP, ELMERS GLUE
AND PAPER TOWELS, WHAT DID YOU DO?"
TELL THEM LOUDLY AND WITH PRIDE DON'T LACK,
"GRANDMOTHER HAD THAT WONDERFUL FLOUR SACK!"

Christine

You can count on me too Kasha, I will do one for Chris and also a couple others. Or how ever many you would like me to do. I can get them done in a couple of weeks . Right now I am feeling pressure to get a couple of Videos finished up and then calenders. I am doing the wedding video for my grandson's wedding luncheon and they want copies for the parents, grandparents and of course for them selves. So I have worked all day long on this project, plus a couple of other days scanning and inserting the pictures into the videos. Have two more packages of photos and music to receive from my daughter and from my grandson. I only agreed to do it if I could do it in October and not be stressed out about it. I have done up several LOs, like for the title page and the last page and One will go in where they have pictures of their dating and adult lives. It is going to be from both of their births up to the present. Right now I am in the cropping and panning stage of it. I love the panning it gives so much depth and interest instead of just a side show effect. At the present I have 154 photos in it and there will be more. Each photo will get 8 seconds of time if it goes that way I plan on.
So I have not been ignoring all of you I am just super, super busy, trying to get ahead now so I can enjoy the wedding and the holidays. :yahoo:
Oh yes, I am still doing housework, Have company coming on Tues, for the day, then Sister In Law and her daughter the first week end of November. We had unexpected company today that we have not seen for about 40 years, I have never been so thankful for having my house in order in my life as I was today. LOL:lol:

Oh Kasha, the case you told us you are working on.... I saw where the boy friend of the girl that was strangled admitted he had done it. It was on the news. They didn't mention the girlfriend's sister in this report. It really caught my eye when they started to talk about it on the news last night.

Kasha, is there anything we can put on a card that would let them know it's specifically for that unit. Or is that a security issue and we should just keep the cards kind of generic?

Freda, love the flour sack piece! I always had the most wonderful flour sack dish towels until my grandmother passed away. They ranked right up there on the handy scale with old diapers -- remember being so disappointed when all of our "diaper rags" finally gave out. ;-}

I have a old piece of flannel from my mothers older sister and one day she was upset about something and cut some chunks out of it. My mom saved it for years and Now I have it. The Aunt passed away about the age or 3 or 4. My mom is younger than her so this piece of flannel about the size of a receiving blanket is at least 90 years old. Mom wrote a note about it and pinned it to the flannel.

I'd love to do one for my boy Kev and the end of Nov timeframe is MY kind of time frame  !!! You are one very very special lady Kasha

cONGRATS MARS!!!!, Post 10,000, and you saved it for the Granny thread...I SO love that!!!!!

Hi, Vicki! \
KEV - Congratulations on your Bronze Star!!! :yahoo:

Vallie - For your 'name,' how about "Classy, funny, Lady who is an extraordinarily talented gothic artist and poet, who is inspired whilst cleaning the loo, who is a good friend and encourager to all, and who has a slightly twisted, and somewhat dark, sense of humor." :yahoo:

About Emma's posting bonus for the Vallie StyleLift - She posted a link to it midway through the StyleLift thread and didn't pm it to anyone. It was a pretty lace overlay.

Kasha, is there anything we can put on a card that would let them know it's specifically for that unit. Or is that a security issue and we should just keep the cards kind of generic?

Omi, I don't believe it will be a security issue at all. Our guys are attached to the 101st Airborne Division from Fort Campbell, Kentucky. There are literally hundreds of different unit patches, but if you were thinking about incorporating insignias into the card, a good choice would be the division logo. The 101st is known as the Screaming Eagles and the division patch is a black background with the eagle centered on it. I have lots of 101st clipart, and I could email to anyone who would like it in a zip.

Also Omi, the other project you so graciously offered up will specifically be for a Rakkasan soldier from the 101st Airborne. This is the infantry unit my son served with for several years before he switched units last September. This is the unit that just deployed again in September and they will be forever part of my life. If you'd like to read more about the Rakkasans, their website is: http://www.campbell.army.mil/newinternet/unitpages/rakkasans/Default.asp?uid=123

Carma, I bet your video will be just beautiful when it's completed. I would like to try doing one someday myself. Sounds like things are keeping you hopping there!!

I'm not surprised that you heard about the case on the news, the story has hit everywhere. But, the boyfriend did not plead guilty yet. Since he does not have an attorney, a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf until the court appoints an attorney to represent him. The forensics aren't complete on the second sister yet, but should be soon. Trial will not begin until January at the earliest, and my term on this ends with the semester so I won't have to suffer through all of that. I am concerned that there will be a successful conviction if the evidence supports that conclusion. There have been so many critical errors made by the investigators - in my insignificant opinion - local and county law enforcement in the classic battle of who has the bigger you-know-what.

Thanks so much in advance for letting me plead for "the cause" and lots of      for those of you who help make a difference in our soldier's lives.

Adding it to my Outlook task list with a deadline, which is the only way I can remember what I'm supposed to do when!

And hugs to you, Miss Kasha, for all your pleading the cause!  It's appreciated!

Doesn't that title make you want to sing that song??? OK, I have posted my FINAL version of this LO (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=218577) .

I don't think I'm going to have as many versions posted with the next round. I need to SLOW down! LOL I usually just throw things together and slap them on the LO and get it done quickly and I'm satisifed with how it looks. But I can see how the changes make a difference.

Going to be a busy day today. Have another doctor appointment this morning. I'm going to read through some of the posts for the next few minutes and I'll check back later.

I am in a big hurry because dh is chomping at the bit to get going. So this will be brief. I have just had a chance to skim and will quickly go and make some comments after this. Kash, I will happy to make a card or several cards for that matter. I like making cards. I was into rubber stamping before digital scrapbooking. Freda the story about the feed sacks brought back many memories. My Mother made many, many dresses for us when we were growing up. I also remember being very naughty one time and going and cutting all the ties off the waistlines of my sisters dresses. Can't remember now what they did to make me that mad! I do remember Mother was pretty angry with me, lol. Congrats to Mars on 10,000, and Happy Anniversary to ?. Have to get going, dh is now starting to stomp around and making growling sounds. Have a great day all. WOS and WVS.

OMG!!! My kids' father was a Screaming Eagle back when they were all airborn. I still have his patches for my son whenever he has a permanent home.

During the Gulf War my class adopted a unit from the 101 and had a "lemonade" party with them. We chose a time by looking at the time difference. Then we sent the unit a carton of powdered lemonade packets. they toasted us and we them. We video-taped the children (second grade) each toasting the unit and sent the tape to them. We got wonderful notes back from them. One young lady stopped by to meet the class when she was on her way home. It cost her a precious day with her family, but that is how much she said it meant to the unit.

I just talked to my daughter (a third grade teacher) and her class would love to make a set of cards for the guys. Of course, there wil be something secial for "my" Tranny. If you would send me your snailmail address in private I will send you the cards.
