I had a play with the Freebie Quick click and they look a great idea. It's just a shame they are not very easy to use with FotoFusion.

Curved edges are useful as PSE does not make them easy to do manually.

I love all the ideas given already - but I have a question. Is it possible to make a ribbon with a bow a quick click? I love the sweetbonds of love and scalloped edges etc. Thank you for taking the time to listen to our ideas! I am looking forward to our chat tomorrow morning! :)

What everyone else said. In general, I think the stuff that I'd want are things that are harder to do by hand, especially in PSE, like curves and scallops, funky angles, and interesting shapes. Also interesting edge effects - be they grunged or inked or torn or partially erased, or possibly stitched or hole punched or zigged or zagged.

I don't know the limitations of what you can put in a Quick Click, but those are the types of things I'd be interested in.

And thanks for asking. I appreciate that you want to know what we think.

i will have to learn the freebee. love them in the gallery. have taken the freebee out to play...so far, picture it is not easy to do this in. so, i really do need to concentrate, and really play some more. then, i will get help if i run out of my own steam. a challenge would be perfect so i can focus on it. that would be perfect. willing to use any kit and any pattern. cool.

Hey Jane, Can you get with me to tell me how it could be made easier for FotoFusion or what your concerns are?

Hi Kim - don't forget weave and the "curve with the little cut-outs" (sorry, don't know the proper name).. Some cut-out shapes like hearts, little flowers, swirl-type stuff, leaves, etc... Thanks :)

Replying to request as to what programs for tailored instructions.....

Photoshop Elements (I use 2.0, but I'm guessing they would be almost identical for newer versions).

Kim,

I use PSPx and I'm having a blast with the Quick Clicks. I haven't run into any issues at all. Of course, I resize mine to 8.5x11 so sometimes I get interesting shapes with the curves, etc, but they still look nice!! These really are the most awesome things yet! They are soooooo much more versatile than a regular plopper, and when combined with all the beautiful kits you guys create for us..........FABULOUS!!!

Hi Kim,

like Jane I'm using Fotofusion and I've played a little with the freebie from Lauren.

FF doesn't have a magic wand tool, but you can get the same effect if you use the png-file in the mattes folder from FF. But, to be really useful the non-transparent part of the png file needs to be black. Not white as for example the curve png in the freebie is.

If it's black in FF you can choose to cut-out the transparent part out of the paper, but you could also choose to cut out the non-transparent part.

I think that way the quick clicks can be useful in FF also. At least to cut out shapes from papers.

I do have a problem however that I don't get a smooth edge at the curve. There is a little black that shouldn't be there. I'm not sure if that has something to do with the resolution or with a shadow already being there in the png.

Using the circles for the photos is a different question. Just using it the same way as the curve on the paper, doesn't really work, because you cannot crop and move the photo in the circle. Hmm, it's hard for me to explain, maybe another FF-er can help me out here?

I just wanted to say thanks to Kim and everyone who was at the chat this morning. I have now, for the first time ever, used a clipping mask. It took a while to figure out what I was doing, but now I get it. (Took way too long to find instructions in PS Help. GRRRRR - talk about needing better instructions!)

Aside from being proud of myself, I am really excited as this seems to be a very useful "trick".

Thanks again. Can't believe how long I have used Photoshop and how very little I know. Amazing...

Hey Jane, Can you get with me to tell me how it could be made easier for FotoFusion or what your concerns are?

The big problem with using .png files for mattes in FF is that
1. It uses "BLACK" to identify what needs to contain the image and it must be true black not 1 or 2 off on colour, this can give nearly black edges where they are not wanted (seems to be a problem with anti alias routines in PS(E). Add to this the fact the png's are all shades of grey which means they need editing on PSE to black before loading to FF.

2. The empty space used by the quick clicks to ensure positions means that in FF its very hard to get at each layer as they overlay each other, FF does not have the equivalent of the layers pallet.

The ideal solution would be a set of .pngs for the Mattes folder on FF and a template for FF, but I suspect there are not enough FF users to justify the extra work and the larger download size.

Alternately perhaps a pack of black shapes for use in FF might be fine perhaps with sample layout example to use them.

It's not too bad for me as I can always flick over to PSE and do a layout in there, but I prefer to use FF when I can as the resulting files are so much smaller.

Here I thought I was the only FF'er in the bunch and last night I not only discovered Kristen uses it but is teaching a class in it! Now I found you use it too! It's a lonely Ff world here and we have to adapt. I do have image editors but I just love working in FF. I found your comments on how to use these templates exactly what I did as my work around including swapping the white areas for black in order to make them work. Glad to have found another person who uses FF.

Oh boy, I struggled putting this one together. Just when I though I had this figured out if FF, only two of the layers worked for me. I had to do the rest of the layout in Photoshop CS2 using the clipping paths. That worked fine for me. Then I saved them to the necessary file layers I needed and assembled in FF. Worked fine just took me longer to do it. I used the Hyacinth kit and the Encircled Quick ClickTemplate for the layout.

I wasn't sure if I had to post two layouts if I used both in one. But I found out that it needed to be two and I had worked on a second one just in case. Here it is using the Hyiacinth Kit but not the Quick click. One of each.........Now I'll know for sure in the future. Love the colors in this kit.

Kim, I would love to see some card quickclicks...templates for making cards. I love to make them myself with photos and always have trouble lining stuff up and know which way to flip things etc. I think card quickclicks in common envelope sizes would be FANTASTIC!
