Check out this PS tutorial by Lauren, how there's a Quick Mask mode that PSE doesn't have, where she uses a brush to paint the selection
http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/depth.shtml

Well, since PSE doesn't have Quick Mask, it has a cool Selection Brush tool instead! So when needing to make precise selections, or making funky edges, use this brush (looks like a brush with a dotted rectangle behind it).

Fun and fast way to make fuzzy edges and other cool effects, or go around hair like in the tutorial. Check it out!

And if you download Grant's Tools here
http://www.cavesofice.org/~grant/Challenge/Tools/Files.html

You get the Quick Mask! Load these into PSE and try the tutorial again using the PS instructions. A great tool, I use it a lot.

And not only that, but the grayscale masks we used last night in the Scrapalong for photo edges will work with the PS instructions if you have the quick Mask, super easy to do.

Emma, I know this thread started a long time ago, but I was just reading it today and wanted to do that tutorial that you mentioned Lauren had done. The link doesn't work. Probably because that was a year ago. Is there another tutorial that tells how to draw a selection in PSE3? Also I went to that website and downloaded the Grants whatever it is. But his directions are not there anymore. Can you tell me how to use them? They do look cool. I think I could really use them a lot, if I could just figure out how to. His directions on how to download them and where to put them was really the best I have ever seen. That really helped a lot.

We just reorganized the tutorials, so the page is the same, just the path/URL address is different. It' the Depth of Field tutorial in the Photography section of the Tutorials page
http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/tutorials/photo_depth.shtml

The instructions for how to install Grant's Tools and how to pick them from the palette are still there
http://www.cavesofice.org/~grant/Challenge/Tools/HowtTo.html

but how to actually USE each tool is your job to figure out! Look up PS tutorials on the same things, since they are PS tools that PSE doesn't have, you'll need those tutorials to learn to use them.

Have fun! I cover many of them in my 361 class, especially masks and Quick Masks.
