I loved the Quick Click last week. I hope we can do another and maybe with the two new paper packs...pretty please! I've picked up all of the Quick Clicks and have been using Photoshop to experiment with them. I got some to work in FF too. I found I can do part of the work in PS if I need to and finish in FF. Either way, I'm enjoying these very much...and I love those two new background packs!! I can see why everyone is taking to these templates. They are a lot of fun and so much more flexible than the ploppers.

I love the Quick Clicks with multiple picture options. Particularly ones with multiple shape pictures in one layout. I would love to see more multiples.
Ohh sounds good .. having multiple 'framey-type' layers for all those layouts with lots of pictures - then they wouldn't all be exactly the same size and shape. I tend to have bunches of photos on one layout and that would make it more fun and interesting.

I would love to use these Quick Clicks but I use PSE4.0. I spent $99 on the program just after Christmas.
Why do you need PSE 7.0 or higher?
How unfair, see me throwing a fit here

I think you either read the compatible programs wrong or you have a file with a typo. It works with version 2.0 and higher in PSE. The 7's refer to PSP or Picture It. Your program works fine with these.

This is my first time using a quick click and I am a little stumped. Between your instructions and Lauren's I understand what I am doing (I think). I have added all the layers of the quick click and now I am trying to add the main photo. I have the photo up and layer 4 (tried 3 as well) highlighted. When I click on the layer with the Magic Wand I am only getting the marching ants around an individual piece of the puzzle instead of the whole thing. What am I doing wrong?

this is what I do, once I have marching ants around the puzzle piece, I click the eye on the puzzle piece layer. Now you should have the marching ants in a puzzle piece shape, but you can't see that layer. Go down to the layer with your photo and highlight it, then go to the menu, edit and click copy. Go back to the puzzle piece layer, highlight it, click to put the eye back and the puzzle shape will come back, go the menu, edit and click paste. That should put the section you copied from your photo layer back onto the puzzle piece.
If there is another way to do this tell me, this is what I do and it works great.

I really wish there was another chat time. I cannot make it Tuesday mornings because this is the day I take my daughter to her doctor appts. The granddaughter will not arrive until about mid July or so. I am missing out on the freebies and opportunities.
Thanks for letting me whine.

GG, I think Kim said there will be another time besides Tuesday morning now for those of us, (including me) who can't make it at that time. Check because I thought I saw that somewhere that she was changing the name of the challenge for that reason. By the way Jan, did that work out and did you get it working?
And by the way Kim, what would also be really cool to, is lots of layers in quick clicks, like torn edges and corners. Those look neat.

I am still stuck with the main photo. I really think my brain just isn't clicking with this. Here is what I have so far.

I have done the main photo on layer 3. How do I get the puzzle lines to show up? Did I use the wrong level?
I'm so sorry that I am being such a ditz about this.:o Thanks for any help you might be able to give me.

I am so frustrated. Why am I having such trouble with these quick clicks. They are not quick to me at all.
PSE 4.0 is my program. When I open the file and select the png files, hit copy, then open PSE4.0 Paste is not available, Ctrl V also won't work.
I have to select each individual layer and copy them paste into PSE. When I do even tho I am doing a 12x12 LO the layer is huge. I have to select the corner and shrink it down to fit the 12x12 page.
What am I doing wrong? This is not a fast process. Please someone enlighten me. Thanks - Jennyrae:eek:
to copy and paste in Adobe, you first have to Ctrl-A or Select>Select All before you can copy something (or use a selection, but to grab the whole image, Ctl-A first).
What resolution are you scrapping at? You can try Image>resize to get the quick click the same size or resoultion as your layout before dragging each layer over.
OR a cool thing in Adobe is you can select something and then with the Marquee tool click and drag just that SELECTION over to your layout.
Jennyrae
06-06-2006, 08:39 PM
Emma thanks for the response. The image>resize worked. I always set my resolution to 72. Should I be using a different resolution?
Copying problem. I was trying to copy the layer files from my manager all at one time then pasting them into PSE. Is that not possible?
Otherwise as I understand it I have to individually open each layer file in PSE then select all copy and paste to a new page, then close the page I opened them in? Correct?
If so kinda time consuming.
Jennyrae
you scrap at 72ppi? NO! Unless you NEVER plan to print these and you NEVER plan to have a TV or monitor any better than the one you now own (which likely displays at 96.something already anyway), then that is considered low resolution suitable for web viewing only. Unless it's like 25" wide. You should have at least 2400 pixels in a 12x12 layout (meaning 12x12x200ppi).
That's likely why those quick clicks are so huge, they're at 12x12x200ppi, and putting that on a 72ppi layout will give you waaaay more pixels than that layout has in it. Makes the pixels less dense, meaning the image gets bigger.
Try the PPI Explained in the Articles section for more info in this area.
Anyway, to use it, you open all the files. Drag and drop each onto your layout. Ctrl-click the layer thumb to select it, and start cutting paper. Not tedious, unless you're struggling with the drag and drop part. Pretty soon it'll be super easy.
To drag and drop quickly, make your new layout, open all the quick click files and papers you're going to use.
In the Photo Bin you'll see all the little thumbnails. Drag one paper or quick click template from the large image DOWN to the little thumbnail in your Photo Bin. Repeat for each thing to go on your page (including photos).
It should only take a minute to drop them all on there.

Okay - In PSE I go to open and select all the layers of the quick click I want to use and open them. It opens each layer in it's own file so it won't let me crtlA or select all to copy all the layers at once into a new page.
Please help. Thanks Jennyrae
you can't do it all at once, you just repeat for each image you want to copy onto your layout. Just drag the big image down onto the layout thumbnail in the Photo Bin, takes just a second. Then view the next image and drag it onto the layout in the Photo Bin, and so on. All together, if each image takes a few seconds, doing them all takes less than a minute.
So, create a new image to be your layout. Open all your photos, papers, and quick click piece. Drag each piece onto the layout thumbnail in the photo bin, one at a time.
There's an action that pastes all open images as a new layer onto the active image/layout, but I don't know if it works in PSE. I've never tried it.

I use PSE 4.0 too. I do 12x12 Lo also click on the png file. on the menu go to select, pick "all" from the menu. Go to Edit on the menu and pick copy. Go to your LO, click on Edit, then "paste". I find it faster to just drag the png file to my layout, unless the png file is transparent, like an edge or an overlay, then that won't work. I also find on occaision that the png file is huge and it has to be shrunk down. I usually will make my LO small, then I can see the bounding box better to shrink it. Put all the png files in layers on you working LO first in order. Then go back and put in your other things like background papers, photos, making the photo, for example, the layer directly above the png file that belongs to the photo layer. Then what I do is use the clipping mask ( i use a Mac so I use control G) to "glue" the picture or background to the png template, then control e to merge that down one layer so it "locks" it into place. I find this an easier method than the "magic wand" method.
BUT for the puzzle version 2, you HAVE TO use the magic wand, or it won't work. I generally find the QUick clicks to be very convenient, not necessarily totally fast, but, I did find the puzzle 2 one much more challenging. Once I got the hang of it, it made perfect sense and didn't take long at all. If you're having trouble with that quick click specifically, let me know, I'll try to help, I did that one differently that I usually do the others.

Someone suggested in the forums to save all the quick click layers from one quick click (ie: Two Circles Quick Click) in one file. I have saved all of the different quick clicks I have in a separate folder labeled Quick Clicks in "My Documents". When I want to use one I pull the one I want from the file folder and rather than PSE4 Organizer. All the layers are together. When I saved them together the first time I named all the layers the file name they came with. This makes them a lot easier to use since they are already in layout form with all the layers named. I use 12 x 12 200 transparent size to save.
When I pull a QC from the file folder to use in the editor, I also duplicate it like I do pictures and close the original. That way I will always have the original. You will still have to put your pictures, papers, etc. one at a time on the layout like Emma described, but not all the quick click layers. I don't remember who suggested this, but it works great for me. I hope this makes sense and will save you some time.

You guys are so awesome to reply so fast to my distress call. :o
I have used many of the tips. Pulling all the layers into a Lo then saving for future use was an awesome suggestion and it worked great. I know I will use these alot so that will save time.
I have a great laptop bought in dec. Windows XP, centrino processor but when I work in PSE4.0 it is so slow. When I drag photos, papers etc. over I have to wait when I save wait wait. Resize images to match 200 dpi wait while it updates then drag onto LO and wait again.
I don't know if I am just expecting too much from my computer or if I have processing issues.
Anyway I have successfully used two Quick Clicks. I hope to get faster as I move along with using them more.
Thanks again - Jennyrae:D

Okay, I had this problem too, I was ready to throw my laptop out the window. Then I did a complete optimization and defrag (it took overnight and then some on my 80 gig hard drive) but, now things are humming along much faster. Now I do this about every couple of weeks because I find that once i keep editing, deleing, adding, etc, my poor computer seems to slow down. I have a very fast processor on a brand new MAC, and even so, the high demand on system resources with photo editing can cause this. So defrag often.

A greeting card QC, now that would be cool.
What about a QC challenge. Make your own QC from existing QC. Limit to using 2-3 existing QC, how many variations can you come up with for new QC from those? That would be interesting. Then the winner gets the new QC named after them or something.

Kim, since I have an unnatural addiction to these QuickClicks, and I feel the need to check daily for new ones, can't there be some subscription or thread to be updated on new QC, since I feel the need to have them as soon as they come out. It's like I can't do a LO without one now. Thanks a lot, LOL, in more ways than one LOL. Anyway. I would love that, so I don't get psycho checking all the time. Although, that's not so bad.....

Jennyrae - are you opening a new canvas to work in first - thats the first step - open a new canvas - 12x12 200ppi - then open the first layer file - edit copy - go to your new canvas file - edit paste - fill that then and open the next layer - edit copy- and then move to your layout file - edit paste - one at a time like that - you must have the file open in pse in order to do the edit copy - you cant copy directly from explorer

I just purchased the puzzle version 2 quick click. I wanted to make my dad a fathers day card using a picture of my daughters and myself. I can't figure out how to do it. I use Microsoft digital image suite. I can get the background in the corners. I don't know what to do with layer 3.
Help. Thanks.
Thank you Emma and Lauren for catching those questions while I was away :)
ljcrochet, If you are referring to the puzzle piece that is divided for the bulk of the puzzle, you can select multiple pieces by holding down the shift key when you use your magic wand selection tool. :)
Let us know if that helps. :)

Here ya go... You can now view the latest quick clicks from this link :)

You can go to many categories in the store and there will be a box at the top of the listing that will list the lastest products put in that category. :) Hope that helps. :)

I'm using Microsoft Digitial Image Pro 9. My magic wand will not select the puzzle pieces.
I fudged my way and compled a layout, but I know there has to be an easier way.
Here is the page I did. I left out layer 3.

Doh on me! I should have mentioned that layer 3 is just a layer to put under your photo to give it that 3D puzzle look :)

Ugh!! Totally lost on Puzzle V2! Help please!! I am using PSE 4. How on earth do you get the picture to be in the outstide pieces?? Thanks

I have to say that except for the puzzle piece QC I do not use the magic wand, so for those people who have programs that do not support magic wand, you can still use quickclicks by using the clipping mask method. This won't work for the puzzle piece ones, as I said, but I always use clipping mask instead. Of course, if your program can't do that either, than you're out of luck. I find the magic selection wand entirely too complicated for me. I prefer the other method frankly.

Here's 2 suggestions for QC's:
One is for templates of common card sizes. Kim, I know you did one for Father's Day.... I was thinking more of very generic...especially for a horizontal card LO, so I know which way to orient the photo versus writing on inside of card...does that make sense?
2. There was a company called that made "interactive" pages...you know how I love interactive pages :-) I would love some templates to be able to produce those interactive templates digitally. The company is now out of business, so I would think they could be made. And...they were for paper scrapping, not digital scrapping. If you want the link to see what they are, let me know and I'll pm it to you...

I use PSCSC2 and use the layer mask (select the template layer by clicking on the thumbnail and holding down ctrl at the same time) and then adding a layer mask to the paper or photo. That way if I change my mind, I just delete the layer mask and the photo is whole again for a redo.
This is my favorite method, too, but not all programs work this way.:)

I've been trying different ways to do this, and now that I've been doing it for a while I'm much better with my magic wand and use it all the time!! LOL. I did try the layer mask method, and love it. Thanks for that tip. I just started using layer masks and never thought of using it. That's cool.
Magic wand would work on continguous setting, also. :)

I love the QCs with lots of pictures. I also love the turned up corners on the photos that makes it look so real. But I have used that and there are a few times when a layer refues to move to the new LO. Mostly is seems like it is a shadow. I use PSE3 and I use the selection to move the layers. Do you know why the shadow layers are not working. Thanks in advance for help. Oh yea once I tried that Ctrl-G on the QC they became a breeze to use.

Sometimes if a layer is a very low opacity your move tool wont pick it up - you have to make sure you are on the right layer and edit copy - then edit paste into your new layout
