I have extracted, unzipped, and downloaded several free fonts to a folder entitled "Downloaded Fonts," but after I restarted my computer the fonts didn't automatically install on my software. What step am I missing?

The step of copying the fonts into your Windows font folder.

Go to the Start menu, then to Contol Panels, then to Fonts. This opens your Windows Font folder. Go to the File menu, choose Install New Font and go find it in your Downloaded Fonts folder.

Now it should appear in all your programs.

You need to copy the fonts to your Windows- Fonts folder. Another option is to use The Font Thing, a really great freebie program that helps you manage all your fonts without having to keep all of them installed at all times. Check out this tutorial:

Okay, but when I copy the font into my font folder on windows, it just moves the zip file there ... or am I totally off.

you need to unzip it first...either unzip to a separate folder or directly to your fonts folder
