Welcome Sarah!
Check out the New to Digital link at the top of the page (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/Scrapping101/basics.shtml). And, then, try some of the tutorials (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/tutorials/tutorials.shtml).
There's a forum, just for beginners to ask questions, so ask away (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=31) so feel free to post! This place is filled with friendly people who love to answer questions!!
Can't wait to see your first layout!

welcome and you're gonna love it.
PSP is fine. I haven't heard of the other program you listed, but it doesn't mean it wouldn't have worked, ya know? There are TONS of tutorials for PSP so you should be fine.
My first suggestion would be to download some kits, if you haven't already. Then start scraplifting some simple layouts. You'll get the hang of it before too long.

Digital is sure less messy - especially when you have little ones around - you can save your layout in 3 secs if need be - go be a mum and come back when your ready!!! Look forward to seeing your first attempts - have fun!!
