Very cool party!! I had one for Tate last year.. here's some of our stuff:

Here are some things we did:

My MIL made a sorting hat and was the sorting hat voice (via walkie talkie). I held a walkie in the point of the hat, and she had the other one in another room. She read the sorting song from the 1st book, then sorted the kids. I then gave them house stickers for their robes which I had downloaded images from the web of the crests and printed them on sticker paper.

My GMIL made simple capes for all of them. They were outfitted at "Madam Malkins" of course.

I bought dowel rods, my DH cut them down to diff lenghts- and I stained them diff colors. I added a tag with an Ollivanders logo and the wand info on the back- Oak, 9 3/4" inches, Dragon Heartstring, etc......... The "wand chose the wizard" via "spin the bottle" type of game. I spun the wand, and whoever it pointed to got that wand and they left the circle.

I spray painted a golfish bowl (the inside) lightly w/ silver paint and sat it on a stand for divination class (we didnt do anything in that class, just for looks).

Honeydukes for lunch- Witches Hats and Butterbeer (pizza cut in triangles of course, and rootbeer)

In Herbology they ate their cake- I made dirt cake- which I put in small terra cotta pots.

Potions Class- they had double potions..

I had "Drinkable Potions Final" and I had several different colors of Kool Aid in Quart jars, all labeled with Harry Potter names- like "Gillywater, "Nettle Juice", etc) & several colors of sugars with HP named like "crushed scarabs, dragon eggshells', etc). The other Potion was a non drinkable one- "Fizzing Draught" which was a black spoon with a dot of dried food color on it to "magically" change colors, vingear (Aqua Fortis) and baking soda (Crushed Root of Asphodel)- which as you know, bubbles over to lots of "oooooooooh and ahhhhhhhhhhs".

Petrificus was a Freeze Dance- they got to practice their Charms lesson here

house points... There were the 4 house tables...I got small brandy snifters and add the house color marbles in when they won a game, do something good, etc....... I had little plastic trophies that I added a computer label to that said Hogwarts House Cup and the date

There was also the Quidditch Final- just a broomstick relay. The winners got the little trophies with "Hogwarts Housecup" and the date on them.

To finish off the day---They had a trip to Honeydukes-
Everything had a honeydukes label.

Licorice Wands
Twisty Pops
chocolate frogs
peppermint toads
acid pops (sour blow pops dipped in pop rocks!)
cockroach clusters (chow mein noodles mixed in chocolate)

They all LOVED the party--- even the non HP fans!
