Hey all: :)
I'm a new mom of a 8 week old girl. I have been doing paper scrapbooking for years now and I just don't have the time anymore. I'm good with computers and recently heard about digital scrapbooking. After some research I've decided this is the way to go. I'm trying to decide what type of program to get does anyone have suggestions from your own experiences? I know Beginners 101 recommends photoshop.
Thanks,
Kelly :)

Hi!! Welcome to DSP!
I think the best thing to do as far as software is to download the free 30 day trials and check them out. Each has it's own strengths and weaknesses.
I use PSPX and love it. I can't make heads or tails of PS elements, but others absolutely love it. Just see what works for you and give a yell if you need any help!!
Can't wait to see all of your fabulous baby girl layouts! I've got three of them and am always on the lookout for new ideas :D

Your spreads are beautiful! Can you do all that on PSPX?? Or did you download spreads. They are just beautiful!

Hey, Kelly! Welcome to DSP!! This is such a great place and I hope you have fun and learn lots here! I know I have!
As far as which programs to use, I use Digital Image Suite 2006 and I've found that I can get pretty much any effect that any of the other programs can do. And if you want to play around more, you can invest in some filter programs like the ones from Alien Skins. I actually use Alien Skins filters for my shadows rather than the built in ones from Digital Image Pro (the image editor) because I've found that I get more realistic shadows with Alien Skins.
Feel free to ask any questions and I look forward to seeing your layouts! You have lots of inspiration with that new baby! Have a great time!

I am still a newbie myself, and I use PSE4 and have found it very easy to learn because there are so many books, tutorials, and knowledgable people around here to help with any questions that I have.

Thank you. I went "digital" in Feb and I'll never go back. I'm completely addicted.
Designing doesn't overly thrill me, so I download "kits" and use them to create my LOs. Essentially the same thing as going to the store and buying scrapbook paper and embellishments. PSP is my glue, scissors, and ink. Digital eyelets are so much quieter to "pound" on :D
I don't normally use premade layouts. If you browse through the freebie gallery and the store you'll see many of the papers that are in my gallery.

Hi Kelly, Welcome to DSP! I just know that you are going to love it here!
I have PSE 4 and LOVE it! There is a free home trial version if you would like to check it out. It is available at Adobe.com.
Hi .. welcome to our world! Check out the link 'New to Digital' up in the menu and you'll find lots of information on different programs .. lots of tutorials to try out the different ones as well. There are several great programs for scrapping and any one of them will do most of the things you'll want to do. I agree that downloading the trials is a good way to get a feel for their different strengths. Feel free to shout for help if you get stuck!
Welcome to DSP! you'll love it here, tons to learn and lots of friends to make, not to mention all the great pages you'll be cranking out soon once you're addicted, er...obsessed, I mean...
PSE is a great starter program that's far cheaper than Phtoshop. The Scraps of Digital Starter Pack is also great, I still use that beginner software to make super fast pages with premade kits (like themed albums).
What type of creative person are you? Eat it all up? Timid?
Welcome!
