On my last trip to my Mom's I acquired all of my late grandparents photos and slides (enough to keep me scanning for years!) and all of my photos and negatives from growing up. While it's great inspiration for plenty of LO's and definitely enough to keep me involved in the Photo A Day Challenge, it's so hard to keep DH from digging through my horrible 7th grade snapshots and laughing at my hair and my (what I thought were cool) bright red eyeglasses (ala Sally Jesse Rapheal!).
But then again...looking back at those goofball memories is one of the reasons I've saved so many photos for this long!

Oh - I can top that - me in my Western days - we used to go Kikker dancing and I had to have the whole shebang - think Urban Cowboy - that bad!!!
I'm glad that you have those photos to treasure. I was able to go through my grandmother's photos right after her death and scan most of them. Now I have my other grandmother's slides to scan plus finish going through my Mom's photos - especially those of me when I was little.

I recently got the box of old negatives from when I was growing up - and, well, some fashions should NOT be revisited LOL! They are fun to go through, though, and are worth scanning - bad outfits and all!

I've been scanning old negatives of when I was young for the last few years. I work at it for a while, get burned out, and then start again. I'm also scanning a photo album of my grandma's with pictures of my mom and her siblings as kids. This project is hard because the photos are taped into a book that is falling apart. I've had to get creative with scanning to make sure nothing gets damaged.
ETA: Make sure that you preserve the negatives after you scan them! I've been putting my mom's in printfile brand negative holders (you should be able to find them at any camera store or tons of places online) and then putting them in a binder. This keeps them safe and organized.

I found a great website that sends me a catalog every month. www.lightimpressionsdirect.com/servlet/OnlineShopping, it didn't go blue I hope it works. This is a great site for getting quality archiving items; I believe I was referred to it by someone here at DSP. I love the catalog, I do a ton of wishing and not much ordering.....it's a someday thing, asap I hope. I have ALL of my grandparents and mothers photo that I am working on (thank God for the Rose Cottage Challenge) I am scanning for a DVD and archival purposes as well as for a heritage album I am going to give to each of my kids, mom and grandparents. Good luck on the scanning stuff, it's tons of work!

This has been a CRAZY week for me. I worked on organizing important papers for our safety deposit box at the bank. A master list and copy for our file at home just incase. I've had not one but TWO computers go on me. I don't like keeping our financial on a computer that is online so I have one dedicated for that offline. One died Tuesday. I spent all day getting backups, taking it to my tech for the bad news and reloaded all on computer #2. My tech and I talked about backups and he said I needed to get all the photos in the lockbox, too. Well, Wed PM my DH and I went to dinner--lots of thunderstorms and lightning for several hours--go home and computer #2 you can't access. But, even worse for our neighbor (who built our house) is his house got struck by lightning and burned to the ground!!! He lost everything. His wife died of cancer a couple years ago and all of that is gone.
As soon as I get back from this trip, I'm expeditng my photos to DVD's and to the lockbox. And scanning every photo of any redeeming value.
Thursday I came down with Sciatica...pain, numbness below my knee, my knee buckling like I've slipped on a banana. Cause by a disc problem.
I just missed being in a 7 car pileup that was a real mess yesterday. It was like a bomb going off in front of me.
Anyway, enough venting about my Crazy week. I consider this a wakeup call to DO what I KNOW I should do with my photos! Sometimes tomorrow is closer than you think!!!
