Did that get your attention?! :)
Seriously though, I went to get a new pocket digital camera a couple weeks ago and my DH talked me into the Nikon. We chose the CoolPix 2 - which was a little cheaper since it's not one of the newest models). Still, it wasn't 'cheap' so I expect at least good quality.
My previous Sony Cybershot was awesome with it's Carl Zeiss lens. But it had a wierd thing on the lens (internally) and it would cost just as much to fix than to buy new. So that's why I purchased something new.
I don't know why but this CoolPix takes some less than pleasing pictures. They are constantly fuzzy or over/under exposed or just plain 'grey' and grainy. I've played with the settings and it still seems that I am more than under whelmed by it.
With my Sony I could get 15 great pics out of the 20/25 that I took.
With the CoolPix I'm getting more like 3 or 4 for ever 20 I take. They just lack quality.
Now I'm seriously bummed! :(
Does anyone here own a Nikon Cool Pix and is having good results with it?
Sorry about your new camera - what a huge disappointment! Sorry I can't help you with Nikon stuff, but I'm sure someone knowledgeable will be along soon.

DId you epinions searhc it to find out what others say? I would check on amazon.com too. Sometimes in the reviews for the products, people share what their problems were and how they fixed it (if they were able to). My husband bought a $40 digi camera for our dd (BIG mistake not checking it out before we bought it), and someone shared what they had been able to do to make it work. HTH!

Thanks Abby.
Lvg4him, no I didn't research it first. I went in fully expecting to buy a different one that I DID research, but while at the store, DH was raving about his Nikon (uh, yeah, he has the D1000 or something), lol. But he said Nikons were great and he'd heard great things from coworkers about the CoolPix. So.. I bought that one. I should know better. If I stick with my 1st instincts, I'm usually right more times than not. Hmph!
I'll keep trying this one, but I hate having to take and take and take pictures just to get a couple of good ones. It's a royal pain!
Fortunately, DH is more than happy to let me use his SLR D100, but you know, it doesn't exactly fit in my purse!!!
So I feel lilke I have two ends of a spectrum.. either the crappy end, or the high end that I don't understand how to use. I just want somethin' in the middle!

I was actually suggesting you check it out now, not saying you should have checked it out before hand.
While I usually like to check first, sometimes I don't always check either. I actually meant to look AFTER the purchase. With the $40 camera we bought, we didn't realize it had problems until after we got it home and had it for a while. We went to look at epinions and amazon and found others had the same problem. HOWEVER, there was one person at amazon in his review who told us what he did to resolve the problem.
Someone might post that has the same problem as you and what they were able to do to resolve it. I also know that when I have had a problem with a company, I call and talk to them and sometimes they are able to help. It never hurts to call. They might send you a replacement free and say the one you have is defective. I got a brand new upgrade in a blender I bought once because I had bought an older version and it was having problems, but not made any more because they had come out with a newer model. So, they gave me the upgrade for free.
HTH!
Nikon definitely has great customer service! Contact them, gripe and moan, maybe write a letter (those get more attention). See if they can help you. Can you return the camera?
I have a CP 5700 I'd like to sell, it's not suited to indoor shots or movement (otherwise known as candids of kids!)
It likes a lot of light and still subjects, like landscapes outdoors.

If you bought it local, go in there and make them make it right. There is NO reason to spend hundreds of dollars on something that doesn't work correctly or not up to the standard you expect for you money. Return it, demand it! They're more likely to take it back if you offer to 'just trade for a different brand/model etc." If their return policy is refunds within a certain time period.... RETURN IT. No reason to have something you are not going to use! And Nikon knows that every happy owner tells two people and every UNHAPPY owner tells ten! So it would be smart that they make it right. Good luck and I'm sorry you got a bum camera.

Thanks you ALL for the comments and feedback!! I really do appreciate your time!
Lvg4him, I will do as you said and see what I can find that might help me. It is completely possible that it is all operator error, but ??? I never had this hard a time previously.
Emma and Jennifer, I bought it about 3 weeks ago. I will call the store and just ask generically and if it seems like there might be any hope of recovery or trade-in, I'll do that! If not, then I'll try contacting Nikon and fussing about it and see what happens.

Most stores have a 30 day guarantee dont they?
Thats whats so bad about camera buying is they dont have them actually set up for you to see the quality of the pics before hand.

I had (well still have) a Nikon Coolpix 3100, and I loved it. It's especially nice outdoors, indoors if the lighting was off or really contrasty it would take grainy pictures, or dark pictures, but for the most part it's an awesome little camera. I still use it occasionally, took it to the beach Friday cause I was scared to get sand in my D50. :) I hope you get it resolved, and get a camera you are happy with, be it the Coolpix or something else. It's frustrating to take picture after picture and not get what you want. Good luck!
