Hi, Amanda,
Do you know when there will be beginning classes for DIP? I just got it and am slowly learning, but I keep going back to PIPlat2002 to do certain things.
Also, how often are the classes held? I see they are for 4 weeks, but nothing on when the classes are held.
Thanks for your help. I have really enjoyed this week. The WordArt, the kits, the chats.....:) Now, ask me how much housework I have done this week! LOL

Hi Amanda,
I am a beginner and LOVE it so far!...currently I am going thru "Digital Scrapping 101" so I can take some more advanced classes, but in the "choose software" area I am a little confused. I have Photoshop 7, (photo editing program) so do I need one of the layout programs in addition to PS ?
Sue Rentfrow
Amanda

Nope! PS7 is all the program you will EVER need!

I have a program called Picture It. Can I use that with the downloads? Also, not sure how the downloads work - do I just download them, then pull them up in Picture It and upload my pictures to the page?
Amanda
03-24-2005, 09:03 AM
Yep! Picture it will work just fine. It is the older version of Digital Image Pro.
Yes, it will work with downloads. Just download what you want. Unzip them, and then pull them into picture it.

Are the layouts already set up like they should be or do you need to move stuff around? I was kind of confused because my welcome kit that just got sent to me looks like things are in pieces and not really in a layout form. I guess I don't understand how these work. Will I be able to move the pieces around once I bring it into Picture It?
Margie
03-24-2005, 10:12 AM
yes kits are just that, a kit full of pieces for you to use as you wish. check out the tutorial on how to do a basic page in digital image pro (the newest picture it) and it will help you get started. click on tutorials in the menu above... hth! :)

Another question? If the downloads I'm looking at say that they include 12 x 12 paper, do I have to have a printer that can handle that size or should I only buy ones that say 8-1/2 x 11. My printer can't take the 12 x 12 paper.
Amanda
03-24-2005, 01:04 PM
12x12 backgrounds can be easily cropped down to 8.5x11. :)

You may want to look into Ploppers too...they are fantastic b/c they are already done into a layout you just add your pictures to it. Very simple and they are so nicely put together by the designers.
Here is the link to ploppers in the DSP store: Ploppers (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=2_17)

I have PSE and I'm just doing my first few pages. But when I look at other pages I notice I need to have better fonts. The basic fonts that come with PSE are not really good enough for making scrapbooking pages. And I don't want to spend a few bucks on just one font. Do you know of any good font programs that I can buy, download or search for that have an amount of good quality fonts that are good for scrapbooking? I don't have a script or a font that looks like hand writing if you know what I mean. And I don't have any that are bold and large enough for a title. Can you help?
Thanks Kathy

There are tremendous resources for free and inexpensive shareware fonts online. We have a list here (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/links.shtml#fonts) to get you started.
Also, if you see a layout with a font you like, most people are good and list what they are. You can search for font scriptina for example, and find out where you can download it.
I have thousands of fonts, haven't paid a dime! There are so many free ones!!!
here are my fave sites
www.scrapvillage.com
www.dafont.com
www.1001fonts.com
www.fontfinder.ws (when you know the name, but don't know where to find it)
www.acidfonts.com
www.onescrappysite.com
and tons, tons more. You'll get linked to fonts.com a lot, which are commercial, and one font can be from $35 to over $100!
Some good, cheap fonts are the Creating Keepsakes CDs available from their web site or at your local scrapbook store. The popular ones are CK Cursive and CK Legacy, so get the disk that has those on it. Not sure which

Thanks for the links. Wow ! I'll be searching for a long time. Now to make a choice. Thanks, you saved me money too. I like that.
Kathy :)
It took me forever to download fonts, just didn't know what to get, was a little overwhelmed at all the page after pages of fonts.
Some tips?
Download a wide variety of fonts, not just the flashy ones. Make sure you have great flashy title fonts
legible journaling fonts
beautiful, casual scripts are in style
fun, silly fonts
legible fancy fonts for subtitles
super boring for setting off flashier fonts
a few novelty fonts
fat fonts
skinny fonts
and a good font organizer so you can see what you have, preview, install quickly. I use The Font Thing, there's a tutorial in the University>Tutorials above
Have fun! Fishing trips can be a ton of fun. But if you go hunting for a particular font, be sure to pick up a few along the way for variety. That way you won't have to run to the internet every time you want a font for a specific reason. I can't even remember the last time I went font hunting, it's been so long. I made a few trips to round out my collection, and the odd link someone posts to a font, and I just use my manager to choose what I need. Always something suitable in there, and stuff I've never used too

Font are my biggest weakness.. :o
You go looking for just one perfect one, and land up leaving with hundreds!!!
I download them and straight away sort them into catagories, otherwise I never get to it..
http://www.houseoflime.com has some great fonts also..
And dont forget to have a look at the dingbat fonts, they are very useful.

Hello everyone! I love to take pictures - for Christmas my husband bought me a fabulous Canon Digital Rebel - I love this camera. I have taken some wonderful photos. I have decided to scrapbook with regular paper and also digital. I believe I'll enjoy doing both and the digital is fun for me to experiment with page ideas. Now I get to choose a program to play with - today is my birthday and my husband bought me a powerbook g4 laptop so that I could play while watching tv with him. He told me to choose a software program for him to add to it. He bought several adobe programs like Photoshop Elements and the Photoshop (the expensive program - he has this one on his computer at his office and it's a $1200 program) but if the photoshop elements is just as good then I'll be fine with that as I'm not familiar with the Photoshop program. Based on what you know of these two programs - which would you prefer? Or if you are using a program you really like right now - please tell me about it. He says he'll go out and get it for me this week.
I look forward to searching the sight in the next few days and learning more of what it is about. Also, does anyone have a powerbook so that we can exchange tips, tricks, ideas, etc?
Thank you

Wow! Lucky girl! Sounds like you've got a pretty great husband.
Your choice of program depends on what you want to do. Do you want to assemble premade pages and maybe create a few of your own things? Or do you want to create heavily (but still have the capability to use premade stuff). If you want to create heavily I would go with PS.
Both of these programs have free trials. You may want to take a look at both of them before your purchase. Try some of our classes and tutorials and see which one suits your needs best.
Another plus to PSE 3.0 is the photo organizer :)
HTH!

Thank you for your reply - I went in to your scrapbooking 101 and clicked on the programs - after reviewing several comments on the amazon website on these programs - I've decided to do the free trial download for Photoshop Elements 3.0. Based on what I'm reading about Photoshop - this is mostly for people who are professional photographers and Photoshop Elements 3.0 has almost all of the same functions with less steps. So, I'm going to play with this tonight while looking over your scrapbooking 101 class.
Thank you

Hi.. I am brand new to this forum.. and to digital scrapbooking. I have been doing handmade scrapbook pages for about a year now. But with a toddler and new baby on the way in a WEEK (induction), I find I have less time to do it that way. I do, however, spend a good bit of time on the computer in the evenings and wondered if maybe digital scrapbooking wouldn't be a better fit for me at this junction in my life. However, I know nothing about it! Not what software to use, not how it works, not how it's different from doing things by hand from scratch, nothing. I would really really appreciate being pointed to the right direction and told information so I know where the best place to start is. I feel so bad that I have let my favorite hobby fall to the wayside. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi-I am new to this forum. It is fabulous!! I am relatively new to scrapbooking (and LOVE it!!). I have a great digital camera, and have had about 300 of our old family slides scanned to disk, so I have them available too. I use Photo Explosion for photo editing, and I have most of the scrapbooking softwares, but generally use Scrapbook Factory Deluxe or Print Master 16. I am struggling with my layouts. Should I design them in 12x12 or 8X11? How do I get 12x12 sheets printed? I am working on a scrapbook for my parents' 50th Anniversary, so I would love for it to turn out well. I really appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks so much.
Lots of newbies in this thread, how is everyone coming along with their software and getting their first pages completed?

I finally found the gallery to upload my first scrapbook101 page. I discovered after I had finished the page that dimensions were 10x8 rather than 8x10 and perhaps one reason that happened was an illustration at the beginning of the 101 tutorial that figure 2 showed the width as 10 and length as 8 and I didn't notice that until after I had finished the layout. I also had problems finding quality photos for scrapbook requirements as to resolution etc.

Hi Shirley,
I was real new last month. I'm still having some problems finding things on this site. I find there is an awful lot of different departments to read and learn from. And there's even a game area that's fun to play in when you have time. But if you want to upload your first layout or a picture or anything just use the DSP gallery. It will automatically go into your own gallery also. There is a tutorial on how to upload, it's real easy once you've done it. When you do select to upload there is a drop down menu asking what gallery you want your lay out to go into. You have several choices then. There is one gallery just for criticizm, if you need help that's a great gallery to get it.
Good Luck, You've come to the right place.

the gallery and uploaded the setup in the DSP Gallery, maybe I should also load it in the other place too but that will have to wait until later. It is past my bedtime for today.
Thanks for the info.

If you scrap 8 x 10 or letter size, it is OK to scrap either portrait or landscape, so whisper angel, your layout is perfectly fine in either direction.
You only need to upload the photo once. If you think it belongs somewhere other than where it landed it is possible for you, or one of the moderators to move it. You don't need to upload it again.
You said you were having resolution problems. Are you using photos from a digital camera, scanning photos or using files from a CD that you got from processing film? If we know which it is, someone might have answers for your problems.

The picture on the left was taken with a digital camera while the other I scanned from a photo but I really don't know if the photo was taken with a digital camera or a regular camera. It was given to us from those who took the photo and possibly I have a photo copy provided by those who gave it to us.
I put it on the computer by scanning the larger photo.

Hi Kathy
The critique galllery is actually under the Photography section and is more for critiquing photos rather than layouts, you'd get more help with you layouts by asking for it in the forums and posting the link to your layout in your own gallery :) Just thought I'd let you know :)
There's a critique gallery under Help>Step It Up for layouts you'd like advice on, but you have to title it Help! or post a link in the forums, and describe your problem under the layout. Usually people don't notice it's in that gallery, but if you point it out they will offer great advice

I want to take the beginner's PSE course but I can't get through the tutorial
because everything wants to go into my background layer when I want to work on it and it is locked. I am incredible frustrated. I have spent at least 25 hours on it. When I go through the exact tutorial it isn't exactly like mine-maybe because I have 3.0 but I am a very beginner. I do understand the concept of layers but I must get over this hump.
Cindy, don't worry! This is THE most common problem for first-time PSE users, and easy to fix
You're working with 2 things here: the Photo Bin, and the Layers Palette.
1. The Photo Bin has zero to do with layers. It's a bin that shows thumbnails of all the open images. If you drag an image out of the bin and onto your layout image, it won't paste as a layer. You're just viewing the other image. That's why the layers palette shows background no matter what you do. You're not actually pasting it onto the other image. Both images have just the background layer only, and the layers palette shows that.
I think that the Photo Bin should show an image as soon as you click on it. It views the image whether you click on it, or click and drag it intot he Active Image Area, so why even allow dragging? It's just confusing!
2. The Layers palette shows how many layers are in an image, which you understand. To paste an image as a new layer into another image, you can do one of two things
- Ctrl-A then Ctrl-C the photo image. Go tot he layout image and Ctrl-V to paste it.
- Get both images into the Active Image Area together. If they're both open in the big gray area at the same time and you can see both windows at once, then you can use the Move Tool to drag and drop from one window to the other window.
To do this, you must EXIT Maximize Mode in Windows>Images>Maximize Mode and UNcheck it. Then you can do Window>Images>Tile to see them all together and drag and drop between windows.
Hope this helps and makes more sense. Let us know if that fixes it. And feel free to sign up for the class. The First Page tutorial is a prerequisite, but if you don't understand it, don't let that stop you! That's why we're here
Welcome to DSP! Let us know if this is what you need, or if you need clarification
Figs 12a-12d in the First Page Tutorial show what I'm talking aobut with screen shots.
I am struggling with my layouts. Should I design them in 12x12 or 8X11? How do I get 12x12 sheets printed?Vangie, have you read about printing options in the Printing forum yet?
Bascially, if you design 8.5x11 or 8x10 you can print them at home. If you design in 12x12 you have to either print 8x8 at home, 12x12 at a photo devleoper like Sam's or Costco or Kinko's or online developer. Or you can buy a wide-format printer to print 9x9, 10x10, 11x11, 12x12, or 13x13 at home.
How's the anniversary album coming along?

Emma, Thanks for your response. It did help me understand better.
However, when I get to #3 in the first page tutorial, I do not have the blank new image and the photo in the big gray working area. No matter what I do, I can only get one image into that area.
I get the new file in. Once I select a photo, it goes into the working area and even if I ctrl (-) to make it smaller, it is the only one in there. If I import three pictures at the same time, only one is in and the new file is gone(not it big working box).
Even if I select my photos and then open the new file, the new file is the background and it is locked. If I move something else up, it becomes the only thing in the working box and it is the background that is locked and I can't do anything with it.
I don't know what I am doing. It worked accidentally yesterday.
Thanks from a very frustrated person!! (I did sign up for PSE160)

I just upgraded to version 3 of elements and I had the same problem. It drove me nuts. I worked for several hours going back over the same stuff trying to figure out why I can't put another photo onto a layer or my background. I don't know if this will help you out but this is what I figured out was my problem. I hope this helps you.
In PSE 3 you have to click on WINDOW. Then the menu drops down. Then click on IMAGES. Then you have to select CASCADE. For some reason you can't add photos on top of each other without dong this. In my program it keeps changing back and I have to go through these steps almost everytime.
I thought I would litterally pull all my hair out trying to figure this out. It can be extremely frustrating when you have a plan and the computer doesn't work with you.
I hope this helps.
Kathy
No problem :D This is still the same issue, so no worries.
You both still are working in MAXIMIZE mode. This means the image window is maximized in the Active Image Area. You do NOT want this for dragging and dropping.
You must EXIT Maximize Mode in Windows>Images>Maximize Mode and UNcheck it.
http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/tutorials/images/pse_basicphotobintile.jpg
OR click the Multi-Window Mode icon in the upper right of the image window
http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/tutorials/images/pse_basicmulti.jpg
Then you can do Window>Images>Tile to see them all together and drag and drop between windows.
IF YOU WANT TO WORK IN MAXIMIZE MODE, that's fine. You can still copy and paste the image instead of drag and drop.
This is from the First Page Tutorial, figs 12d and 12c
Imagine it like this: you're typing a letter in Word, and you maximize Word on your monitor. Underneath that, you have other windows open like email, internet, etc. But you can't SEE those other windows because Word is filling the whole screen. You have to click the RESTORE icon to make Word take up part of the screen, then you'll see your other windows peeking out around Word.
Same thing here. You PSE window is maximized, but so is you IMAGE window inside of PSE. You need to work in Multi-window mode to see more than one image on the screen.
Keep it up, you'll get it! :D

I have been doing some digi scrapping for a while, although, not completely new to this, I feel inadequate about design and using brushes, making my own elements, using the tools. I often download elements and papers and just make my layouts from what others have created. Where should I start with classes?
Starling
06-04-2005, 06:14 AM
I'll let Emma talk to you about classes, because she is the one who teaches the beginners. However, I'll point out that because I had been digital scrapping for several years I didn't take any of her beginner's classes. That was probably a mistake. She teaches some graphic techniques I've had to stumble my way to.
One of the things I needed to learn when I came here was that it was OK to use kits to make layouts. I had developed a very sparse style trying to make everything myself, and not knowing how to do that most of the time. Using kits that I have downloaded, whether free or purchased, has liberated me. My paper-style layouts are certainly much better these days, and so are the color schemes.

Welcome! I would definitely start with DSU 160 which is an intro to scrapping with PSE. This class will give you a great start in creating pages in PSE. You will learn how to use the program as well as basic design techniques. You can sign up in the store. The June class registration will be open until the midnight tomorrow night. It will be offered again in August.

Welcome Carti! Click on the "New To Digital" link in the menu at the top of the page. That is DSU 101. It is an introductory to Digital Scrapping no matter what program you use.
Oh, yeah, that was confusing how I stated that! DSU 101 is like a text tutorial explaining what scrapping is, links to get started, how to nav the site, that type of thing. It's short and free!

Check. I do not have a credit card and do not wish to use PayPal. Do you accept checks or money orders. I thought I might consider signing up for at least 1 class but if I cannot pay for it via check or money order then I guess I will have to pass on doing that. What is the difference between the HP Creative Scrapbook Assistant and using Photoshop Elements. I have the 2.0 version. Would it be worth the $$ to upgrade to 3.0 or will 2.0 suffice?
Since I am new, I don't want to go crazy on buying things. I have a ton of scrapbooking supplies (real life ones.) So, I'm trying really hard to control myself with the digital stuff.
Thanks in advance. Mary

If you have PSE then stick with that. CSA would be a downgrade from PSE. 2.0 is good. You can read our review of 3.0 here: http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/place/PSE3.shtml 3.0 has some great new things for scrapbookers (red eye fix, photo organizer with slide show creator, etc.) But, you can stick with 2.0 for quite a while if you are on a budget :)

PSE3 does have some benefits. You can use more downloads that are FREE. version 2 is a little limited in that catagory. Also the filters are limited in version 2.
If you do want to get version 3 of Photoshop Elements it's only $49.00 at Amazon.com. The funny thing about that you get a free little digital camera with it for the $49.00. If you buy it at a store you will pay $89.00 you get nothing free.
My suggestion to you about learning the program and taking the lessons it to take ALL the free tutorials first. That way you can get all the really important stuff out of the lessons. The lesson are so intense and have so much information that a real beginner is stuck struggling through the easy stuff that they could have learned before the class. If you want to really get the most out of your program do take the lessons. They are great. Lots of fun. And the teachers are really great there too. Very helpful people there. You will really enjoy yourself.

PSE 2 will absolutely enough for you! While 3 has some more tricks, PSE 2 is just as powerful and wonderful for scrapping. You'll love it! Be sure to check out the PSE Intro 160 class in the Store, it's open in August and September, and you'll learn a ton in just four weeks!
glad you have something that'll work for you, that you already have. I think the upgrade to PSE 3 is only about $50, but you can just wait until 4 comes out in a year or two, you won't miss anything in 3. Okay, maybe a few things if PSE 3 users are spoilers, but nothing major. Have fun!

You not only can use version 2, since you already have it, you SHOULD use version 2. I'm not a big believer in upgrading just because.
You will be able to make wonderful layouts with Elements 2. And you can start now without buying anything until you are ready to buy stuff. Look at the Freebie gallery right here at DSP. There are several wonderful kits, or mini-kits there. Learn how to make layouts with kits using those.
Take a look at the current Freebie Add-On Challenge layouts in the gallery. Every one of them were made with DSP Freebies, and they are all wonderful.
Will you want to upgrade and buy kits at a later time? Yes. But you can start with no additional layout of funds because you already have Elements 2 which is a great place to start.
Can't wait to see the layouts you upload into the gallery.

How to I upload a layout to the gallery?
Hey, Mel! First, resize your layout to 500 pixels tall at 72ppi and use this tutorial:
http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/tutorials/dsp_UploadGalleryEP.shtml
There are links to resizing the layout depending on which software you're using. Let us know how it goes, if you have any troubles. Then we can check it out in your gallery and leave nice comments or suggestions if you need some.
Welcome to DSP!

Before you start, it is important to do some research on the software programs available. Some can be tedius to learn but once you do, sky is the limit! This website has a wonderful tutorial place and with some of the software out there, you can download a trial version before buying. Remember to be patient with yourself, especially if you don't have alot of experience with editing software. It is really a fun to do, you'll get hooked once you finish your first page.:)

Hello Everyone I Think I Need A Little Help I Have Never Done Digital Scrapbooking And I Want To Learn How. I Got Print Workshop 2006 For Christmas But It Didnt Come With Directions And Im Having A Little Trouble With It, But Anyways It Has All Kinds Of Scrapbooking Templates But The Backgrounds Are Not What I Am Looking For. I Had No Idea How To Get Backgrounds So I Went To Michaels And Bought Scrapbooking Pages And I Got Home And Tried To Set The Pictures Them Tried To Print On The Page But The Page Sinked Through The Picture So I Didnt Do That Right. So What Im Asking Is Were Can I Get Example Didgital Layouts And Digital Backgrounds. Or Were Can I Buy A Digital Scrapbooking Program? Thanks So Much Kristy

in that program, there should be a choice for help in the top menu. that usually has instructions. there are many programs listed in the 101 article, click on new to digital in the top menu up there. we sell one of them, the hp csa. it's easy for beginners and has a lot of backgrounds already in it. but click on the new to digital, that should help you get started! :)

Hi Kristy, Welcome to DSP. I have Photoshop Elements version 3, but now they have come out with version 4, but they are very much alike. I don't have to buy any backgrounds at Michaels. I can make all my own in my program. I learned how to do that here in the lessons that I've taken. Also you can buy kits on the internet here at DSP. Then you download them into your computer. And the best thing about digital scrapbooking is that you can use them over and over. You can download Photoshop Elements to try for your first class and if you like it then you can buy it. Many programs you can try before you buy on the internet. Read everything you can that's offered here at DSP and read the forums to get an idea of what we digiscrappers do. Then you will have an idea of what you want and need. I'm very fond of my program and now that I have taken the classes I feel like I can do anything with it. But at first I was lost. It just takes time and trial and error to get good at this stuff.
Good Luck and welcome,
Kathy

When I open a second photo in pse4 it brings it in as locked, and I am unable to move it to the layout. How do I unlock it or what am I doing that causes it to be locked? Thanks for all your help! I am excited to learn digital scrapbooking. I want to get through the basic tutorial so I can take the beginner class with Emma.

you can duplicate the layer and then drag that one or select all, and copy and paste instead of dragging it.

As an educator, I'm a bit paranoid about kids' pictures being posted on the Internet. That said, I would like to scrap pictures of my grandchildren for my PSE class with Emma. Has anyone had issues with sharing personal pages? Any do or don't suggestions?
Margie

some do, some don't. many will blur faces to protect the innocent. definitely don't share personal info, addresses, and such. but scrap away, then decide how to share. you can put a black dot over faces, blur them, leave out the picture totally. however you prefer! :)

Gailz, Now you need to post it in your gallery. There are directions for how to do that in a tutorial. We want to see what you have done. And you need to be able to compare it with something you do after all your classes. It's fun.
in PSE 4 you view the photo in the large workspace area, then use the Move Tool to drag it DOWN into the photo bin to drop onto the layout image thumbnail. Glad you found a way to get it on there! Lots of options, I prefer to work in Multi-Window mode, but this method of draging and dropping down into the bin, rather than dragging the photo out up from the bin that doesn't work, is my next fave.
yes, post in the gallery! First layouts are so fun, pretty or not, since we see the new excitement and can see your progress as you learn.
And my classes aren't funny; they would be if I was standing in front, but alas I'm just online. Scott Kelby writes funny, but I find the jokes annoying to wade through when I'm searching for information. I have a far more formal writing style...even though he is pretty funny!

If you look at Classes under the University at the top of the page, you'll see a list; The Main will give you an overview. I'm taking DSU 160 right now, and it's GREAT!!!! I think the beginner class is probably offered every month, and classes begin on the 1st day of each month.
I've tried and tried to paper scrap but just couldn't get into it. This digital scrapbooking is fantastic, and I'm only on Lesson 2. ;-}

You will get the best benefit from the classes after you take all the free tutorials on this website. The classes have loads of informtion and you will probably be able to get it all better once you have some idea of how the program works. I have PSE version 3. I'm amazed at all the things one can do with these programs. You will too, once you get into the classes. You really need the classes to learn the whole program. And take all the classes even if you don't think you are interested in one part. You will learn things that will apply to other areas. The classes are very much fun, and you will meet a lot of very nice people. And the teachers have an enomous amount of patience. I know I have really tried them. Good luck. You've got a good program.
Kathy
The next DSU 160 is in March (Feb is it's off month), so you'll have plenty of time to do the First Page tutorial and lots of others in the U section. The class is designed for people who can open PSE and that's it, or people with more experience looking to streamline their workflow, so matter where you are you'll get something out of it.
Ask a million questions during the next several weeks before class starts, have fun, and welcome to DSP!

Thanks Emma! I'm looking forward to it -- lol... addicted already!
I'm thinking about doing 160 in February, but that would make it 4 months in a row (enrollment really drops if I offer it every month, but takes me the same amount of time to run for 5 students as for 50)
Has anyone signed up for the March class who would rather do February and switch? Dunno, just mulling it over. I had so many students in it this month it might be nice to offer again in Feb

I don't have PS however, I am sure there are lot of people who would like it every month.
omi, click above under The University>Classes to see a full list of all the classes offered, and the line up for the upcoming months. Also, in the store, click on DSU registration and click the class in which you're interested. In the drop down box you can see which months it's offered. One more question. I use PS Elements and don't plan ever to invest in PS. I see one PS class that's specifically labeled "not for PSE." Does that mean that I could take the other PS classes? (With the understanding, of course, that some functions might not be available in PSE.)

I have a question about Picassa, not sure if this is the right place to ask, but here goes: I've just downloaded it, have had all the pics scaned on my machine (and didn't realise how many duplicates I had of everyhting... but that's another story) but when i add a label, it seems to duplicate those files inot the labels folder... is that taking up extra space on my computer..? Also, WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN KEYWORDS AND LABELS??? if all i want to do is use it for future searches?

For the most part I would say no. There are element making classes for Photoshop and for Elements. I'd suggest that you do the ones for Elements if that is your software since they basically cover the same items. Some of the techniques that you can do in PS, you can't do in Elements, but there are work arounds.
Brushmaking isn't easy in Elements, and may even be impossible. Ask before you take that one. The class that is marked not for PSE is one that is absolutely impossible to do in PSE since the capability is not there, at all, and there are no free or pay filters or actions that will give you partial capability.
Most of the PS classes have a PSE alternative. The ones that CANNOT be done in PSE are actions and paths, just no way around it. PSE just doesn't do those things.
If there's a PS class you'd like to take that has no PSE alternative, email the instructor and inquire.

Amanda, on the subject of downloading...
I have a question similar to rswood62. I've downloaded the welcoming kit and noticed that when I open my folder I saved-there's a popup menu that tells me to 'please register' and to "note that WinRAR is shareware. After 40 day trial period you must either register it or remove it from your computer."
What does that mean? Could you explain to me. And what do I do?
I've dowloaded so far the welcome kit and another freebie from DSP and same thing happens as above mentioned.
Please advise.
Thank you so much for being a blessing and guiding a new digiscrapper.
Aloha,
Jos <><
WinRar is shareware, meaning that you try the full version and can use it as long as you like without paying for it. If you want to register and pay for it, go ahead and do so (kind of like a donation so they can make more cool products!)
The popup window is annoying, but just click Close to get rid of it, or click Register to keep it gone for good. I ain't arguing with anything free, and if that annoying popup helps raise money I'm all for it!

I make and print my own photos most of the time with pretty good results. I just (today)downloaded a free trial of Coral Paint Shop Pro X and now I don't have a clue what to do with it. PSP will do just fine. It all depends on what you want to accomplish with digital. If you want to just assemble pre-made graphics the HP CSA is a great program. If you are looking to do a little bit more - maybe create your own stuff once in a while then you will need something like PSP or PSE. Take a look at the New to Digital link in the menu and also the first page tutorials for PSP. You'll be going in to time. Also take a look at signing up for the PSP beginners class. You can register in the store.

You're doing the right thing by doownloading the free trial versions. That way you get to actually try them out. Try using your free trial versions on the free tutorials here at DSP and see what you like.
The bottom line is you are going to get hooked on this. You will be using the program you decide on a lot once you make your decision. Also think about what other things are out there for you to have for free. 1.)Does the program you choose have free websites for help also. 2)Are there free downloads of stuff to add to your program.
I choose the Photoshop Elements program. I get magazines from a support group that I do pay for, but they have very easy directions to do different things on my program. Photoshop has several websites to download additional filters, brushes, patterns, etc. That was just my choice.
This is the website for help though. You will find a lot of people here that are very friendly and very helpful no matter what program you choose.

Amanda,
Just wanted to tell you that Scrapbook 101 is GREAT! I was just casually looking into the option of going digital in December after getting my latest bill from the scrapbook store. Scrapbook 101 was just the right amount, and depth of information for someone looking for an overview. It stopped me from running out and buying the first program I saw with "scrapbooking" in the title!
I'm now committed to the change, but I'm going about it systematically. I'll use PSE, but right now, I'm just getting things set up and trying to read up on all the advise. I got a laptop so I'll still have flexibility to go to crops, and I'm trying to settle on a paper size. I hope to buy the program and start taking classes within the next month, and completely convert after I finish the two paper albums I'm in the middle of.
I'm so thrilled about finding this site that seems to have EVERYTHING I could possibly need or want to get going.
Thanks again, too bad I have a day job & two kids or I'd be adicted!

I'm new, too, but I'm sure you'll get expert advice pretty soon. If you're using PSE, look over at the layers window on the right and make sure you have selected the layer with the right picture on it. (That's the mistake I made most often.) Then use your move tool.
You might want to look at the DSU classes. They're very detailed and you can ask all sorts of questions.
Like I said, though, I know you'll get help here because the people on this site are so generous. You might want to edit your post, though, and include the program you're using. ;)

We need to know what software you are using. Also, did you save the layered file WITH layers?
I most software there is a move tool. In all of the Photoshop products (including Elements) it is the top right tool in the tool box and the curser looks like a 4 way arrow when you've got it active. In some software you need to highlight the layer with your photo to "catch" the photo so you can move it.
If you give us more information, we can help better, but I hope what I've said so far will get you started.

Most software has some kind of transform tool that you can use to change the size of the photo. Most software also has some kind of crop tool so you can cut off parts of the photo that you don't really want. Once we know what software you are using we can give you a better idea of how to make this work for you.
In the meantime, have you tried doing the beginner's tutorials for your software. It is possible that the answer is there waiting for you.

OK, we are all talking about different things here.
You should be starting with a new scrapbooking page file. It should be either 200 dpi or 300 dpi and it should be the size you intend to scrap. In my case that is 8.5 x 11, but in yours it might be 8 x 8 or 12 x 12. Pull your photos into that file and adjust the size of each photo and/or element according to which software you are using. Follow the beginner's tutorial for your software to do that.
When you are done you save that file three times. Once with all of the layers just in case you need to make adjustments or changes later. Once as a large jpeg for printing (won't have layers). And finally as a small jpeg so you can upload to the gallery.
That last jpeg should be no bigger than 600 pixels on its largest size. It should turn out under 100kb. You should be able to save it using your software, but if that turns out to be a problem there is a little program called PIXresizer, which is free, which saves very nice looking Web sized files from the big jpeg.

You will find that digital has SSSOOO many advantages.
First it takes up a lot less space.
Second it costs a lot less. All the kits and elements you download are mostly free, but they can be used over and over again. You can also change the colors in the kits to make them match perfectly you photos. You couldn't do that with paper scrappin.
Once they are saved you can still go back and change them. And when you want to call it a night it's still safe and sound the next morning. The kids can't get into it and mess it up. Or in my case the dogs.:D
And this place is so much fun, even if you aren't scrappin.

The "regulars" on this site are awesome. I've actually only used the site for a month and can't believe their level of expertise and generosity of spirit and time!
I've been a "traditional" scrapper for 15 years and a friend introduced me to digital, so I had to give it I try! I did my first LO using the tutorial and after a few hours I finally have a page done and uploaded! Now I need to weigh the options of paper vs. digital scrapbooking....decisions...decisions! Any suggestions? No decisions: the more you learn about digi scrapping the more you can do whatever you want! There is no switching, converting, loyalty, abandoning. You'll find the more you know the mor eyou'll have digital things ON your paper pages, the more totally digital pages you'll have, and the more you'll be able to judge what will work better for the look you want, using the strengthys of each you prefer. You can just print up graphics and paper scrap with them, add paper stuff to printed digital layouts, print your retouched photos, titles, and more. Be creative, have fun: hybrid pages are kind of new, so no rules. It's YOUR book, the computer is a wonderful tool for scrapping!
Starling
02-06-2006, 06:57 AM
I started paper scrapping, moved into hybrid pages when there was no name for that, and then into full digital pages when no one was doing that kind of thing at all. And who knows, I might find myself moving in the other direction one of these days.
The idea is to have fun. There is no one right way. There is no wrong way. And what is the best thing about the digitial scrapping community is that everyone here gets it. No matter what "it" is. I've literally never heard or seen a digital scrapper say anything bad about paper scrapping. (I wish I could say the same in the other direction, but I can't.)

well, hummingbird, we only take clueless PS people: PSP users have to pass a proficiency test to register. I failed on my first try and had to admit I'm a complete sarcastic....:D

I'm so confused. I tried to download and then drag the plopper into "Picture It" that I have. It doesn't work. It tells me either "access denied" or that it can't be opened. ????? I guess I don't understand exactly what to drag. The icon of the folder with the zipper or the other folder without the zipper or keep getting into that folder to other things???? help!

Hi Cajungal01 - you need to unzip the plopper before taking it into Picture It.
This tutorial should help: http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/tutorials/freebie_download_mb.shtml
We are expecting a new shipment of CSA to arrive any day. Watch the store :)

ok, another question. I did a page using the free plopper I got and I REALLY want to see how printed pages look before I can decide to totally go digital or not.... I want to send it electronically to get printed. Where do I send it? What company does that? Where is the best/highest quality of printed pages?

Robin, I have found that Costco has a great photography department and it's very cost effective too. You can either take your disc down to the store and get it printed right away. Or, you can upload it on the internet and they will mail it to you. Here's their link. You can opt to get special types of paper also, but that runs into a lot of extra cash. Their standard is great.

I haven't had any of my few pages printed, so I don't know if this would work for the size you need. My husband orders all of his digital prints through http://www.snapfish.com. The quality is absolutely outstanding, and the turn-around time is good. Our whole family has turned to this service for prints (from 4x6 up through poster size) and everyone's been very satisfied with all sizes.

I asked a question yesterday but I don't recall what thread I put it in, so I'm going to try again with a new question. I'm new to positing, and to digital photography. The samples I have seen our beautiful! But what about printing do you actually print them to paper? Isn't it costly - print catridges and what type of paper do you print to? I would love to learn a number of the techniques being used but I'm concerned that this will actually cost more than actual scrapbooking.

for the photoshop question, you should probably email the instructor listed for that class to find out. they can better assist you.
for printing, no it's not bad at all! ESPECIALLY compared to paper scrapping. many have pages professionally printed from $2-5. printing at home isn't bad either, just ink and photo paper. all the digital pieces can be reused, recolored, etc. be sure to click on new to digital in the top menu. we have lots of printing and program info. also do a search in the forums for printing and you'll find a lot of threads with preferences, paper types, printer types, etc. hth! :)

kekemon, This is where the drop shadow is in PSE3. The above link will take you to a picture of the screen with arrows to the place where you can find the drop shadow menu.
1, You need to go to the Styles and Effects in the palette. There you will have to select Layer Styles.
2, Then you click on the second button just to the right of the window that says Layer Styles. When you click on that button you have to scroll to the menu for drop shadows. Drop shadows in near the top just under the Bevels.
I hope this helps you. Remember this only works in photoshop elements.

OK one more question, What is the code to resize your photo's to a thumbnail size in your siggy so they don't take up the whole page. ;)
right click on the thumbnail in your gallery and click Properties to get the URL to just the image, not the URL to the page where it's loaded or the large image. Use that instead
For the Photoshop tutorial, the Layer Styles is only available under Layer>Layer Styles in full PS, if you're using PSE then you need to use the Window>Styles&Effects palette to get the styles. If you're doing the PS tutorial, make sure you take a look at the PSE tutorial instead

I apologize, I thought I posted a questions here about how to put the correct size on a layout to upload it to the gallery. I have PSE 3.0 and haven't a clue how to do it. I've got the quality and image size set to low and 0 but still when the file is saved it's too big to upload. I was wanting to do this to get some advice from folks on what to improve. I'm new to PSE 3.0 and would need specific step-by-step, if there's a tutorial on this simple thing just let me know. Sorry for posting this question twice.
lilbunge
03-27-2006, 06:51 PM
Borros to put a correct size for upload in PSE 3.0 click save for web after doing this you'll see a zoomed in section of your image. On your right hand side under new image size change the width, making sure the constrain proportions box is checked. Afterwards click apply. If I do a 12 x 12 I usually change the proportions to 500 by 500 or so, sometimes smaller. You can see the size of your imagine in kb under the righthand side image under where it says JPEG, then you will know if it is small enough to upload. Hope this helps, just hollar if you need anymore help. I can send some screenshots if you need them.
yep, there is a tutorial right here:
http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/tutorials/ps_resizing.shtml
Just use the same one for PS and PSE, since the only difference is you have only 2 previews instead of 4 in PSE, and the Image Size tab is all by itself down there, no Color Table tab. You go to File>Save for Web and resize the layout right in that dialog, then adjust the quality slider to get it under the size and still look good!
And posting twice? I've posted like 10,000 times and they still let me hang around! Glad to have you :)

I think I am further out than that. :-) My big question is that I was given a gift of Paintshop Pro X, Coral Painter Essentials, and Coral Painter Album. I also have Scrapbook Factory Deluxe. My problem is that I was presented with all of this stuff and I am not sure which one should be the one to use. I am thinking pspx but since I have never used anything other than my Scrapbook Factory Deluxe - I am totally lost. Welcome to DSP! I'd recommend using Paint Shop Pro. It's a popular choice here, we have tutorials and classes, and you'll find plenty of people who can answer questions about it.
Check out the New to Digital link at the top right, and the tutorials page, too.
The most popular software for digi scrapping is
Photoshop Elements (PSE)
Paint Shop Pro (PSP)
Photoshop (PS) professional version of PSE
Digital Image Pro (DIP)
HP Creative Scrapbook Assistant (CSA)
There are free trials for all of these except CSA. PSE, PSP, and DIP are all around $100, PS is around $600, and CSA is around $30 and sold on this site.
Since you have PSP already, that's the perfect choice!
Welcome to DSP, we're glad to have you! Try The Campus and the PSP Basic Page tutorial to get started. The New to Digital link has some great info as well. Holler with any questions, to share anything, whatever you need. Have fun!

I am working on the turtorial for creating my first layout with PSP. I am using version X. Is it different than versions 7,8, and 9 when it comes to creating textboxes and changing the colors of the fonts? I am having a hard time following the instructions for these two items. I am not finding the same choices on my screen as are listing in the instructions.
yes, slightly, because there's no more Object Select Tool in X. You just use the Text Tool to click on the words to move them around after you've Applied the text, in the same manner as the Object Select used to work. The Deform Tool is also gone, replaced by the Pick Tool (it's an improvement since who knows what's raster or vector, and why do I need two different tools to do the same thing to each?!) Pick just does the job of both Object and Deform Tools now.
To change colors, however, I don't think there's any difference. In the Text Entry box you highlight all the text to change, then use the Materials Palette and Options Bar to make changes.
Let us know if that helps

I'm so glad to see that I'm not the only "newbie" who is feeling a bit overwhelmed with getting started. It is nice to also see some of the very helpful DSP members who give of their own precious time so willingly.
Yes - I'm guilty of putting that famous cart-before-the-horse ... bought tons of DSP kits before I really knew how to use them and how confused I would be. I was expecting to download the kits, open a photo and voila! - a beautiful page would happen. Not exactly. ;-)
I'm one who of those "show-me-one-time" and I can run with it. But I do tend to get lost in the wordy tutorials - must have adult onset ADD. Searching the forums to see if any others live in my area - an initial one on one would be a treat. Until then ... I'm trodding along.
Anyway, what I'm having problems with is bringing the kit pages/elements and elelments into my PSE4 program all at once (if that is even possible?). Once the kits have been downloaded, I'm having to open and transfer one page/element at a time into my PSE4 layout page. Is this the norm?. Also, when I go to my DSP kit downloads folder, choose a kit to work with, there is no picture icon next to download to see which kit would work best (color, style, etc.); I'm having to choose a kit by either trying to remember (yikes) what the kit looks like from the brief description I typed when downloading from DSPy (guess that is why choosing descriptive names for the initial DSP downloads is REALLY important). Since I did purchase sooo many kits, I'm spending lots of time just opening kit after kit to see what they look like - can't remember them all by download name. Is there an easier way? Am I making this harder than necessary?
Next, once I finally select a kit to open and transfer to my PSE4 layout area, each page/element layer shows up fine in the area BELOW my layout space but I can only get one page to appear in the layers area to the right of the LO space. Every time I choose a new page or element, it replaces the previous one in the layers area. I feel so dumb. Like Twyla, I'm new to this and am getting a bit overwhelmed. I am no dummy and not new or timid with the computer (only to PS & PSE4 & digital scrapping) or learning new things. But perhaps all this information, and the desire to get it done right now! has me a bit perplexed and anxious.
Is there anyone who can throw me a few brief step-by-step pointers on opening up my first page so I can place the photos. I'm sure that if I can get that far, something will amazingly click and synapse will occur! LOL! As mentioned above, I'm using PSE4.
Thanks to all you special helpers out there!
Amanda

Welcome 2DogNight!
Have you done the first page tutorial for PSE? It will answer many of the questions you are having. Also try the organization tutorial -you can add keywords to help you find kits easier. Search the forums for organizational tools as well. Everyone does it a bit differently.
Let us know if you need more help after going through the first page tutorial.
In PSE 4, when you click multiple files to open with File>Open they all appear in the Photo Bin at the bottom of the screen. Create your new layout with File>New (you'll see the little white thumbnail at the bottom in the Photo Bin now too). view the graphic or photo you want to add in the large Active Image Area/workspace and use the Move Tool to drag the graphic DOWN onto the Layout thumbnail in the PHoto Bin. Repeat for all graphics/photos to be added to your layout.
The First Page Tutorial will be a huge help to you, even if you don't like tutorials. Lots of screen shots to help. Asking in the forum is helpful too, but less pretty pictures :D Be sure to let us know how you're doing so we can help out when you need it and cheer you on!
To view the kit preview/thumbnails you can either go to File>Open and change the view on the top right from List to Thumbnail, or use the PSE Organizer using File>Get Photos to add things to the Organizer. You can see large previews in there and tag things with keywords to find more easily.

I do have another question. I have downloaded a couple of alphabets to use from your site. They are currently still zipped. How do I unzip them to use them and then rezip them so that I don't use so much space? (My learning curve is pretty big right now. Sorry.)
Crafts:
To change the Text Color in PSP: in the Text Edit box you need to click and Highlight all your text blue, just like selecting it in Word. THEN in the Materials palette change the BACKGROUND color to what you want the text to be.
Another thing to do is set the background color before you start typing with the text tool so it starts out right to begin with.
Don't let it be frustrating (easier said than done) because then scrapping won't be any fun. Slow down a little and make some simpler layouts.
To unzip things, you'll need to right click on the file and choose Extract Here. here's a tutorial for using WinZip http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/tutorials/winzip_vb.shtml to unzip files.
The learning curve is steep at first, you have to learn a ton of new things just to make one layout. But soon it will level off a lot, and you'll only have to learn one new thing every once in awhile.
Keep us informed how it's going! There is a PSP forum you can browse, as well as a Beginners' forum with lots of good things to learn. We've all been there at one time or another and are happy to help!

Hi all! I am new to digital and also new to this board. I confess I didn't read all the numerous posts to see if this question has already been answered. I want to get my feet wet in digital scrappbooking and thought a good place to start would be an 8x8 birthday album for my DD. I want to be able to create the same layout for each birthday and just drop in different photos and change the text. I have been using PE2 but it seems like everything I want to do involves many steps. Would layout software be quicker to use? Also, can I import my own paper/elements that I have already downloaded for use in software such as Scraps of Digital? Thanks in advance for any responses:)
yes, a layout software would be faster, especially for this type of "drag and drop" scrapping making many pages with one or two premade kits (called "Power Scrapping").
However, if this is something you want to get going on right away, then use what you have. I personally use a combo of softwares from the basic to the complex to accomplish what I need. My HP Creative SB Assistant I use for Power Scrapping or when I don't intend to alter the graphics much. My PSE I use when I need more control. My PS/PSP I use when I want to make my own kit from scratch, or heavily alter things.
Eventually you'll want to learn your PSE, but you'll still get use out of the Scraps of Digital HP CSA for simpler and fast pages.
Yes, you can load any PNG or JPG graphic into HP CSA. Many basic softares won't let you load outside graphics, or they don't print above 72ppi, so you'll want to avoid those.
Good questions. You'll be pleased with both HP and PSE, and they'll work well together. I have many students in my PSE classes who want to make their own stuff but then they assemble their creations in more basic programs.
Welcome to digital and to DSP!!!

My name is Rachel and I'm completely new to scrapbooking in general but the thought of creating digital scrapbooks appeals to me. I've signed up for the beginner's class next month.

Hi I am new to Digital Scrapbooking, but I am learning. I am using Photoshop CS3 Extended. I thought I would pass on how I got my copy at a great price. I am a student and was able to get it at a great educational price. So if anyone who wants to buy it is a student try going to either your ITS Department, or check with Adobe. Also most of the major programs should also offer education prices.

One other thing I thought I would share. There is an online show and you can also subscribe as a video podcast in iTunes is Photoshop TV, go to www.photoshoptv.com it is really good. They have some things that can be applied to scrapbooking.

Alright here's the deal: I am able to build a 12x12 layout with my scrapbook software but of course I can't print 12x12 with my printer. No one's printer can I think. I know that 8 1/2x11 can be printed. I have a 12x12 scrapbook and 12x12 white cardstock. My idea was to print the layout and tape/paste it onto the cardstock OR just print right onto the cardstock. Since my printer can't print 12x12, what are my options? What do anyone suggest I do? All ideas are welcome, thanks.

Hi Kathy: I'm new here but wanted to jump in and let you know I have many fonts on my font pages, lots that you can use for scrapbooking, and they are free.
http://www.ellies-treasures.com/fonts/fonts.html
I have some alphadings (fonts with pictures) and dingbats as well.
To the mods, I hope I didn't do the wrong thing by posting my url here?
I have a large section in my Great Beginnings page for scrapbook resources as well. Everything on my site is free.
Hugs, Ellie

Newbie here- I have the program Art Explosion Scrapbook Factory Deluxe. Is there anyone here that can give me some pointers about it? I've searched this site a couple of times trying to see if there have been any reference to this program but have been unable to find anything.
I look forward to learning from the rest of you.

I am very new to digital scrapbooking. I have used PSE for many years and have PSE 6 now. I have downloaded many of the kits here and other places. I really love them. My question is, how do I get rid of the gray background on some of the elements? Thanks Connie
if your graphic has a background, then in PSE 6 that is just wrong! :D It opens PNG files fine, and the background should be transparent. What types of files have a gray background on them?

I am thinking that you are dragging your element up into your workspace rather than down into the photo bin (one of the many things that changed between PSE5 & PSE6)

Thanks so much for your response. I actually was able to figure out what was wrong from Jennifer's response below. I was using elements from kits I had downloaded, PNG's, but did not know the proper way to use them. Now I do. I just found out about your class for PSE, DSU 160. I think I will take that one in February. Does it begin the first week of the month-Feb 4? How do the classes work? I cannot seem to get this link to work. (Please click here for more information on how DSU classes are conducted.) This site is so exciting and the work everyone does is great. I can hardly contain myself at my job to get home and work on pages. Everyday I learn something new and change my pages. Good thing they are digital, could not do that with glue and paper. Thanks so much.

Don't worry I found that out through trial and error - that is one great thing about digi scrapping you can always undo things if need be
here's the link you want for description
http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1091
They're totally forum based, so you get a password on Feb 1 to the private class forum, and all the lessons are posted in there, one each week (1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd). We will have 2 private chats, and have a class gallery to share your work.
I'd love to have you! Sounds like you're off to a great start and ready to tear into it.

Thanks so much Emma. I am going to sign-up. Sounds like just what I need. Here's my question for tonight. I thought I figured this out, but now stuck again. How do I work with shapes? I have a picture open and I want to frame it with one of the shape frames, but when I do, it just uses the picture as the frame. I am so confused. Do you know what I mean? Thanks for your help
I rarely use those from that palette because I just find it confuses things more. They do make great instant pages, though, but the "frame layer" is a monster you try not to see if you're a beginner. I'm not sure how you're adding a frame shape, tell me which method you used.
The 160 class has a section on cropping into circles. to crop into a shape, the easiest way is to do it before putting the image on your layout. Choose the cookie cutter tool, choose the shape you want, crop, then put the photo on the layout already cropped. YOu can resize it down as needed after putting it on the layout using Ctrl-T, but at least the shape is correct. A zillion ways to do this, but that's the least amount of steps.

I tried to get into the class for digital scrapping
in the University. It requires a password, and I don't know what
to use. Please tell me what I need to do to get a look at these
classes.
Sandra

I have some fonts on my computer. Is there a way to use them on PSE 6? I am sure this is a very basic question, but I really do not know. Thank you guys for all the help you give on here. I wouldn't be able to do this without this forum, I am sure.

Hi Shawsi, all you have to do is install them normally and they'll show up in PSE. If you have a font you want to use just one time and don't want to install, just double click on the font and it will open up in windows font viewer. Leave it open and it will show up in PSE for your use. If it doesn't make sure you're not on the text tool and then go back on it again. If it still doesn't show up, restart PSE, leaving the font open. I use a lot of programs and in most, if not all, it will show up without having to restart the program.
I hope this helps,
Hugs, Ellie
