Sorry Im not familiar with Scrapbook Factory -I have a feeling it doesnt support transparent png files so is not the best choice for this style of digital scrapbooking. You can only use 12x12 paper if you have a wide format printer or get it printed outside the home. When you scrapbook digitally you print your whole layout in photo paper not on scrapbook paper so that is not a concern

i got Scrapbook Factory Deluxe for christmas one year. to answer your question, yes you could print out 8 1/2 x 11 pages and then mount them into 12x12 albums, or just buy 8 1/2 x 11 albums, that way your pages will slide right in.

if you're looking for a way to do simple premade layouts to plop your pictures onto, its fine. however, you dont have as many options to use custom work in the program, or do custom designs with fonts and photo effects. most digital scrappers use a program like Adobe Photoshop or Jasc Paint Shop Pro. Scrapbook Factory is a good way to start out... but it can be limiting. if it works for you, that's great!! i hope that helps! make sure to post your layouts here if you want!

With Scrapbook Factory Deluxe you can create the 8.5 x 11 pages - or you can load the 12 x 12 pages and then drag guidelines out from the ruler to 6" or 8" and then select all (Ctrl-A) and grab a corner of the layout and resize it to the guidelines. Or you can begin with no layout and select your print size and then bring in papers for backgrounds and mats (from the program or from kits like the designers here create). I placed resizing examples here (http://pamnana.net/sfd3/).

Everything you add goes on a separate layer so your photo is NOT on the background as such - and you can place a border around it or place a photo edge under your photo. Since everything is on a separate layer, you can slide things around until you get a look you like - you can even delete a layer and add something else. You can move your layers backward or forward (toward the top or toward the bottom). Think of paper scrapbooking and the layers that you stack on - this is the same. You can pull something from the bottom layer up to the top or delete it altogether from your layout.

Hopefully one of us will have a tutorial for the program soon to help you get started. Meanwhile, don't get frustrated -- experiment. After you've loaded a photo you can click on it and borders will appear -- you can resize it from the corner (to keep the perspective) or by right clicking and selecting functions from the menu that comes up under your mouse. Go to the top of the screen and find the help file -- it will get you started.

I have used Scrapbook Factory Deluxe for quite some time and LOVE IT. It does have a few limitations, but for the newbies to digital, it is a huge time-saver. And even though I use PSP now for most of my graphics, I still fall back on Scrapbook FD when I have something that I want to do really quick without a lot of customized graphics in it.

It's a neat program and (IMO) definitely worth the price that it costs....and one of the best I've seen for people who don't know (or maybe don't want to find out) about the more in-depth programs like PhotoShop or PSP.
