I am trying out my first quick click using the freebie "close 2 you." But my progress has stalled. I haven't even successfully copied all the layers into one file yet b/c is it soooooooo slow! Right now I tried to open the pspimage file that contains 8 layers and it took 3 minutes to open. Each time I save a new layer it takes about 2 minutes. The file with the combined layers is only 1.4 MB in size. I know I've scrapped larger files before without PSPX being this slow. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how did you fix it?

Hi! I have Psp9 and had trouble with the Photobooth one. It jammed a couple of times and I had to switch off. I think it is a memory thing. Funny thing is that I use heaps of layers in my other layouts with no problem. Maybe someone with more technical knowledge knows the answer! I really liked some of the QCs but am a bit wary of them. :)

They all slow my computer (PSP9 & PSPX) - one with a script took over an hour to process and that only placed all the layers on one page -- I was still supposed to fill each layer. The little spaceholders in each corner of the layers must fill the computer’s memory as if it was a full layer. I have lots of hard drive and 512 MB of RAM, yes I want more RAM but I also find that these files are huge when saved as a PSPIMAGE.

I've since been using selections in PSP -- you can select an area and save the selection to the alpha channel. Then in a different graphic of the same size you can load that selection (as long as both images are open) and copy it (copy from a background color) -- or you can simply create a new layer and fill that area with paint or design. You can load the selection in your layout image, create a new layer and Ctrl-Shift-L to paste your clipboard copy onto your layout in just the right place. Selections don't need spaceholders - when saved to the alpha channel, they load right where you saved them.

I also have just started using the Quick Clicks and love them! I use PSPX and haven't had any problems with the files using up my computer memory....but I recently installed PSPXI and tried opening a QC and it did take an extra long time to open, as do most of the functions of PSPXI. I have more than enough RAM on my computer, so I don't understand what the problem is either.

Also, I recently purchased the QC "All About The Photos", but when I drop a photo onto a layer, my photos turn to black and white. It changes in both PSPX and PSPXI. Any ideas what I am doing wrong here?

OK - yes, when you use PSP - DO NOT open all the layers and put them onto a layout FIRST! I had endless problems with the more complicated quick clicks.

What I do now - and it works like a charm - is to keep the sample open (to remind me of what I was wanting to achieve) then I only work on one png file at a time.

1. After opening my new layout and dropping in any background layers that may be needed - some quick clicks have their own first background layer!

2. Next, I open the first Quick Click layer - and WORKING IN THE QUICK CLICK document, I copy and paste my chosen BG paper on top.

3. Select the quick click layer in the layers palette and use the magic wand to select the quick click shape (so it has those little marching ant lines

4. Then click on your BG paper in the layers Palette - so in the layers palette it becomes the active layout.

5. in the big layout image window - click on the center of the marching ant shape... so PSP selects and cuts out the quick click shape from the paper - and makes it a FLOATING SELECTION....

6. Here is what I do next (saves space) - I DO NOT convert the floating selection to a separate layer - instead I click on the remaining BG paper in the layers palette and delete it.

7. I then choose SELECT - NONE from the top menu - IT MERGES the Quick Click layer with the BG paper - including any shadows from the Quick Click layer - so it is perfect.

8. I copy and paste it into my layout as a new layer.

9. Close the quick click - WITHOUT saving the changes. (obviously)

This way PSP does not have heart failure - and the QC works perfectly.

Thanks for your detailed instructions. I'll have to try them out. I am comforted to know there is a way to work around the problem.

Mandy, thanks for detailed instructions- PSP9 and quickclicks are sooo slow for me (I only open 1 or 2 layers anyway) that really I give up- such a shame, but I will try what you suggest. Even with kits, I have to resize each background or whatever to about 80% then I can complete a LO- otherwise it's CRASH. I've only 250 RAM though so I know that is a major problem.

I just wanted to add that I use DIP and this is one of about three Quick CLicks that gives me problems. So please don't think it is all the quick clicks.

Now does this also work the same way if you want to put pictures in the Quick Click shape?

Making QCs gave me the same problems with PSPX, so I installed a gig of RAM when Office Max had a sale - only $60. Now I have 1.5 gig and have no problems at all.

Yes - Only I put the photos behind the QC shape and lower its opacity - to make positioning easier...

then on the QC layer I select it with the wand to get the shape. I click on the photo in the layers palette to make it active and then using the move tool click on the photo so that it the QC shape is selected on the PHOTO.

I then delete the background that is left as a different layer, and bring the photo layer back to the top. When you deselect it should merge the photo onto the QC shape - then copy and paste into your layout.

OF COURSE - as per Stacey Jewell's suggestion - more RAM is the way to go - but my convoluted way is away around this problem if you only have 1 gig in total LOL!!!

With PSP X and 512mb of RAM, I really only had problems with quick clicks if it really had a lot of layers or if using a script. I got another 512mb of RAM so I'm now maxed out at 1G - but still I cannot run scripted quick clicks, so I gave them up. I just do it the old fashioned way, one layer at a time!

Im not sure what the problem could be with psp - The layers of quick clicks contain very little data - much less than a regular layer in a layout.
Are you all using a script or are you just copying and pasting individually- and secondly just check the resolution of the image just to check that ps isnt reverting to pixels per cm instead of pixels per inch .
Personally when I use a quick click I tend to use Mandys method - of using one layer at a time and filling that first rather than plonking all the layers on in one shot ( being blonde of brain as well as of hair I would find that confusing when putting in fills etc ) .
I dont use a script myself personally - just do it the old fashioned way

Lauren, I'm going to check that pixels per cm thing, thanks! I do know that the scripts and layers really don't create a huge file. I'm not sure why it's so draining on the program either!
