View Full Version : Fandango Challenge Beginning 8/2

Oh we had fun in the Fandango tonight!!!! Suzanne and I are issuing a two-part challenge.

CHALLENGE #1
A lot of freestyle layouts have a special focus on text and letters. They use them in interesting and unique ways. Some of those ways include: using handwritten fonts, journaling on photos, elements, alpha tiles, on top of doodles, around doodles, or even turning your journaling into a doodle, sometimes you will see text used in the background of a freestyle layout, or photos can be matted with newsprint, there are freestyle layouts that use word definitions as overlays, or even inititials used in fun and silly ways.

So....your challenge is to make a freestyle layout, focusing on the use of text. and it you use one of Suzanne's fonts in the layout you will receive a posting bonus!!

CHALLENGE #2
We see a lot of comments both in the forum and in the gallery along the lines of 'I'm not sure if this is a freestyle layout?' So Suzanne and I thought it would be fun if we all share with each other what we think a freestyle layout is. In that way we can all help build our understanding of this style of layout.

So....what we are going to do is ask all of you to keep an eye on the gallery. When you see a layout that seems to 'fit' the idea of a freestyle layout post a link here in the Fandango. Tell us when you post the link why you think the layout is a good example of freestyle. (Don't forget to leave a nice comment on the layout and let the person know that their layout has been linked. Remember...we want to be known as the FRIENDLIEST forum/gallery in town!! ;) :D )

Alright every one....do you have your challenges down? Well then...........

LET'S FANDANGO!!!!!!

Here's my first attempt at the challenge #1 (focus on text). I started off with one idea and ended up somewhere totally different! This is kind of different from what else I've done for this style... is it too "graphic" to be considered Fandango Freestyle? CC welcome.

My layout has text - but the text is the vessel more than the focus -- I did happen to use one of Suzanne's fonts, DSP Suzanne! The layout isn't as silly as it is serious. It's here (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=119706).

No pressure Tara, you have until next Wednesday to post.....I'm just anxious to see what you come up with.....I love seeing how that creative mind of yours works!! :D :D

For others that may have the same problem but still want to include some 'doodley text' check out the store; Suzanne has some great word art that is done in waves and some fun ones in spirals too and Tina also has some wonderful product along those lines!

Missed the chat. :(. But I had a lovely morning doing a walkathon with my six year old twin granddaughters, chatting with them about birds and trees and reflections in the river, watching them interact with their classmates, enjoying their joy that I was with them. i feel totally uplifted!! Not sure if there is enough focus on fonts to qualify for the challenge. It sort of got a bit out of hand and did its own thing:D

Here is a link to another one in another gallery that has focus on fonts, dont know if it is freestyle though, someone might let me know and if it can be classed as freestyle I will move it to the fandango gallery, thanks:) http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=118423&cat=500&ppuser=24685

Any suggestions on tutorials???

It doesnt really use text in a creative way, but it is pretty freestyle so I suppose I am half way there!

Tara - I tried to PM you but your mailbox is full

I don't know if this may be of help but Atomic Cupcake have some free text on a path templates you can use in PSE3. There're just a few so it's limited but from memory there is a heart, round a circle, filling a circle and along a wave.
They're slow to use 'cos they use tons of memory but I have successfully used them.
