I'm trying to make my Baby Book using the colors and style that are in her bedroom. (Inspired by Eric Carle's kid's books.) I'm linking a photo of her room and a close up of the top part of the wall. so that you can see the pattern better.

Everytime I try to get a color from the little piece it keeps coming out looking very green and not at all like the room looks when you are in it. IRL it seems like a more soft mustardy color - maybe even golden mustard and dark!

So, since I can't get an actual pic of the wall without shadows or some of the illustrations in the way I'm trying to recreate the top of the wall as a background and also as a texture to work with. Both the wavy lines with the columns on the sides and also just the wavy lines (they have little flecks of paint in between the grooves so it's not 'clean'.

Anyone with more color picking experience got any ideas? Know of a tutorial that I'm not finding? (I'm working in PSE 4).

Here are the links and TIA!!

Here's a tut I found on using the color picker (very, very easy) AND saving it!

Hint: To get the exact color you want enlarge, enlarge, enlarge so you can see the pixel(s) you want - then choose and use the eyedropper and the paint bucket.

another thing is to make sure that you don't have "web safe colors only" selected or whatever they call it in PSE

I like to use Pixie for color picking. There is another one that I use too.

I've been doing the enlarging and picking carefully, I guess I just have to keep plugging at it. Thanks for the tutorial link... it is what I was looking for.

Maybe I should just pick from the photo of the room in general since it's more the tone that I'm trying to get.

Thanks for the web safe tip... I wasn't paying attention to that but definitely will when I go back in and try it today.

Pixie is a program?

Pixie is a program?

Yes it is. By Nattyware. http://www.nattyware.com/?m31 It is free so that's part of the reason I like it. I don't like it with PS for one reason, the shortcuts in PS interfear with the keyboard shortcuts in Pixie. I am sure that pixie shortcuts can be changed. . . but I just keep a stack of index cards here by my computer and use pixie to pick a few colors in a range (you can zoom in with it) and write those down, close pixie, and then try the various colors until I am happy with one in ps. I don't know if it has the same porblems with PSE.

There is one called ColorPix (try a search for it and Color Schemer) but I haven't used it very much to be honest with you. I don't often have to open up either pixie or this other one unless I am having serious problems getting color matches. I try to start with a picture that has LARGE areas of color.
