Serious help needed on PSE4 on the Mac -- Lost the f

I remember there were icons on the bottom of the layer palette -- They are gone!! No amount of resizing, moving around has brought them back. Any ideas how to reset!! I miss them and need them for me overlay class.

This tray isn't the problem. It is in the Layers palette along the right hand side. The icons should be at the bottom edge of that columns.

Go into top part-window scroll down to palette bin and click and they should reappear.
