Hi there ,

I've noticed that there are tons of us out there with new babies and I thought it would be fun to set up some kind of group / challenge that we can share our layouts with ! I think allot of us are doing new baby albums so it would be fun to see each others and see how our babies are doing ! I love looking at the layouts in the gallery with baby's in and I get such inspiration on how to do new layouts !

We also can encourage each other to keep scrapping even though we might not always have the time !

Anyone else keen to join in ?

Ant

PS Lets give a little bit of info about ourselves so we can get to know each other a bit better !

My name is Antoinette , I'm a 28 yr old SAHM , Mommy to darling Anna ( 6 months ) who lights up my life ! I love digi scrapping , and I'm reasonably new to this site ,joined in Dec last year while I was pregnant . Anna was born in Feb 2006 7 weeks early !

I'm involved in NKOTB at the moment - and my subject matter is guess what ? Anna !

Here is my latest layout which is still a work in progress :http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=121282&cat=500&ppuser=37575

Yay! We have our group started! My gallery is full of baby pages and I'm looking forward to being inspired by others!

My name is Rachel, I'm a 30 year old Mommy to Madeline Grace (just under 3 months) and Wife to Doug (for almost 4 years). I have been on maternity leave since she was born and I have to go back to work next week. :(

My name is Emma (how'd you guess?!) newly 30 year-old new mom to 4...well, just new mom to one, I had the other three previously ;)

I've done my "baby albums" for my oldest, Taya (pronounced like Tea Leoni, rhymes with Princess Leia, does NOT rhyme with Maya) in paper scrapping (ugly, ugly), and my next two Levi and Olivia in digital. They're more just collections of layouts, no real theme.

I'd like to try the baby's in more of themed way to expedite the process with Power Scrapping. Maybe I'll set up some personal albums for baby's first year.

Good idea, like a one-stop shop for baby's first year ideas!

Yay, Emma's here! We're thinking about doing a blinkie for our site to promote us to all the new Mommies out there - any ideas?

Great idea for a blinkie - Im a bit blank on ideas at the moment .

Emma - I love the name Taya , Hows everyone adjusting to baby Julia?

Ive so far done seperate layouts for Anna trying to get each month in , as well as first moments . I think a themed album would look great though - mine are all different and may look a bit scattered . Ive been thinking ..... this would require allot of work , is doing a themed album of sorts and then putting them in a hard cover book - the software isn't here yet in SA but It will be soon !

I personally am not doing a themed book - I personally like all the colors, textures that each page will offer. There are a few pages that will have the same LO, papers, etc and those are her monthly birthdays.

Here's a question - how do you determine what goes in the baby book and what goes in the family album?

I would like to join too. I am a 38yo mother of 2 - my littlest one being 6 months old. I just started digital scrapping, and now I would love to redo my son's book as I do my daughters.

I need ideas!!!

Hi Spitzlvr ! Welcome !

Rachel - Ive never thought of that , I would guess I will put family events eg Easter /Christening/ First holiday etc in the family album and the layouts with just her in in the baby album eg birth . month ones , first etc !

I'm desperately lacking inspiration at the moment for NKOTB , I'm not happy with my LO and don't know what to do now .... Doesn't help that I got minimal sleep last night since Anna was up allot .
When do you guys find time to scrap ? I find myself running to the computer when shes down for a nap - but then I get caught up on the web and have to force myself to scrap since its precious time !

Ok, why don't we post a challenge to get our books rolling on Thursdays? Then, link them here for CC?

This week: What were some of the costs for everyday items when your baby was born (gas, newspaper, movie tickets, etc.)

I'm desperately lacking in inspiration as well. I guess we can all chalk it up to exhaustion! We're trying to convert Maddie to drinking from bottles for when I go back to work and that in itself is its own challenge! lol

OK how are we going to do this ? Is that the first layout idea ,
What things were when you were born ? Ive got the newspaper from the day she was born Maybe I could incorporate that somehow.......... now you've got me thinking!

I would like to join although I am not a new mommy. Mine are 1yr and almost 3... so I am a mom of toddlers. I never scrapped my 3 yr olds pictures and am trying to do that... not quite caught up on my 1yr olds either. Is it ok to join since I will be doing their baby pics?

I'd like to join too, although I hardly ever upload my layouts. I'll have to start! My dd Annabel is 11 months, she'll be 1 on September 1st! I'm trying so hard to finish my dd's baby book before her birthday and it's not going to happen! I have a ton of pages done, but I find more and more pictures to scrap. I don't want to leave anything out! I'd love to look at other people's baby layouts.

I'm going to do a month at a glance for sure.

Any ideas of noting the stuff each month/day?

I think I'm going to keep a Notepad txt file on my desktop and just keep a notation of her "milestones". I'm using the waht to Expect the First Year book for ideas of what to write down, as well as her likes and disklikes, size/weight, etc.

Any other recording ideas, or what to record?

I have no clue Emma, but what a great idea!

Each month, I take notes and then do a recap page. Here's her 1st month (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=114896&cat=500&ppuser=59534).

Hi, I'm Susie. I'm a SAHM, just turned 29, and I've got two little boys. Jared is 2 1/2 and Zach is 3 months. Baby pictures are the most fun kind to take and to scrap! I love this idea, I want lots of inspiration for my baby albums!

I do a photo shoot of my babies each month, kind of like portraits. So I am going to do those photos for the first page of each month, and if there are any cute photos or milestones to scrap, they'll go after that "month" page.
My problem with this and my regular photo albums is that I can't decide which should go in baby books and which should just be in a big family album!
I'm reorganizing my gallery right now into albums for both of my boys. Here's Zach's:
http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=3082
and here's Jared's:
http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=3083
And here's Jared's 6 month page, but it's currently in NKOTB, so I can't move it to his album yet.
http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=122045&cat=1255

Just curious, how long are you going to do their "baby books?" I seem to scrap my most recent photos first, so a lot of them are when Jared is 2+. But do those go in a Baby book, a separate one, or do I just make a scrapbook for each boy starting from birth?
And what do I do with my LO's of both of them together? Just print them twice? So many decisions!

So I said in another forum, I am using the contest and challenges here on DSP to catch up on my daughter's baby album. I have so many to go...

So here is my scraplift of Angminer that I used for her 11 month picture... http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=122047&cat=500&ppuser=20407 I am making them as I go... some for months some for milestones and whatever.... I had a plan but she is going to be 3 in october so the plan no longer seems realistic so my goal is to get some scrapped and in a book... I have been praying for some moms that have gotten sick (cancer) and so I realized that time is short and I want her to have something even if it isn't everything and it isn't organized. I want her to have some of my thoughts and some of my time. So in other words I can't help any of you since I have no clue what I am doing:) !!!

Hi all , Glad to see how group has grown ! Im having problems viewing the gallery so I'll look at your layouts later .

Maria and Micah - Welcome .

Emma - Good idea to use What to except . I'll start that , I have her clinic book which has monthly milestones and place to write in weight etc . I just scribble on that when Ive got a moment , I just add the date or tick off the milestone , You could easily do that in What to expect , maybe just write in pencil next to milestones and add notes about what she is doing. I I think that's easiest since it will all be in one place .

Im planning to scrap a bullet list of sorts with the major milestones in - first smile/roll/sit/crawl/word /walk etc .

Susie - Welcome - I'm also going to use the contests etc to help me get this done , I find sometimes though the kits just don't fit with a baby .
My baby is still little so I don't have older layouts yet - But I think I'll just start from the beginning and fill up albums as I go , that will be my baby album ! Maybe have a children's album and then have there individaul albums for there personal stuff - eg first school day etc .

Id better go scrap - I have to finish my NKOTB layout although Im not thrilled with it .

Hey everybody! I just found this thread and thought I would give you guys a link to my gallery for inspiration! Im 31 years old and a mommy to Drew and I have done a scrapbook page for every month of his life. I didnt get started on this until late so it was a good thing that we sent out nightly email updates to our family and friends when he was in the hospital. Now, I keep a running list of all of the things that he is doing to go back and scrap that months milestones. Although, I didnt write down his 17 month stuff so Im going to have to rack my brain to figure out what he did!

You can get to my gallery at the bottom of my siggy!

Hey, for keeping track of things that babies do, get a calendar just for them. I got one free at www.Verybestbaby.com It's a baby book, but is really a calendar with stickers for milestones. I find it's easy to just write in something interesting that happened that day. I did it for DS#1 and HAD to get another one for DS#2. For example, whenever I weigh them, I write in the weight on that same day. When DS started solids, I wrote down when he tried something new and put a smiley face or frowny face next to it (if he liked it or not). I put events that happened in our lives, like Great Grandma passed away or Daddy hiked the Grand Canyon (when DS was 3 weeks old--left me alone with both boys!), etc. It's great to go back and compare, and it's a great reference for scrapbooking.
My only regret is that I didn't do it past his first year, becaues he still wasn't talking then. I wish I'd written down each new word on each day, and now write down the funny things he says. BUt it's all long forgotten now.

weddell

I keep a notepad document on the computer too. I write down milestones and dates, as well as journaling for future pages. I find if I write the journaling as events happen I get more details even if I don't scrap the event until months later. Like first foods, I wrote my journaling when we first fed her, but didn't get time to scrap the page until recently, and I was glad because I didn't remember all the details until I read my own journaling!

I'm doing a first year book as the "baby book" and then I'll start another book for when she's older. I figure that this gives me a finite end and so hopefully I can actually finish it! I'm not doing the pages in order, but once they are all done and printed, I will put the book together in chronilogical order.

I wanted to add that I thought of something that I might try myself for doing a monthly page. You could combine Lauren Bavins' year in review quick clicks http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_137_136_139&products_id=2710
with the memory book brand flip and fold page protectors http://www.c-lineproducts.com/MemoryBook.html#66037-P . You could put the flip and fold on the spot on the page where the pictures normally go and then you would be able to put several 4x6 from that month that you didn't get into another scrapbook page.

Hi everyone! I'm another new mom (well 2nd time new :)) Thanks to Antoinette for pointing me this way.

I'm a 40 yo (yikes!) SAHM with two boys, 3 and 5 months. My 3yo son's baby SB is almost done, mostly paper and glue type. I've now done 3 pages for my new boy, 2 of them with NKOTB5.

I think I joined here around Nov/Dec last year. I don't really have a plan for either SB, I just scrap the photos I like best and try to get a good representation of various milestones.

This forum is a great idea! I can't wait to see what everyone else is doing.

Hello everyone, I don't know if I can join since my "baby" is 2 now and I am scrapping toddler pictures, but what I did in my Anna's first year baby book (which was paper, and I wasn't real good at it either), I did a layout for each month and on each layout I had a printout of a calendar page with the milestones and playdates and such typed on each day. Here is a link to a poorly scanned example: http://thelelands.org/photoalbum.asp?currentpage=25.

Her second year I did the same thing with a smaller calendar on each month and the third year I am trying to work into a family scrapbook....of course....I only have one child and most of our pictures are of Anna anyway, so we'll see how that goes. I am thinking perhaps I will create several themed books--a Christmas book, a Fall book, a summer book, and a birthday book as the family album. But that leaves out everyday stuff...so I just don't know on that.

Good luck everybody! Love to look at those baby pictures!

It is a little boring, but I'm going for a clean and simple look for the book and I want the pictures and journaling to stand out, rather than other elements.

Oooh, ooh ... I want to join! My little boy made 10 mths yesterday and although I have hundreds of pics left to scrap, I think I've gotten a good bit done already. They aren't all posted in my gallery, though, b/c sometimes I create a bunch at a time and then forget to post them.

I started keeping a blog (http://jamierousselle.typepad.com/)when I was pregnant, so I have all of his milestones recorded in there that I can go back to. I also have a website (http://www.haydenheyl.com)for him that has links to photos that relatives can look at. And when I don't have time to update the website or do a blog entry, I have this little free site (http://sites.bundleofjoys.com/haydenheyl/babys_corner.php) that has a section for milestones, teeth, weight stats, etc.

You guys can look at my gallery for inspiration if you want and I'm looking forward to getting more ideas!:)

My baby is almost two, but I still haven't finished scrapping her first year. Can I join in? I was just talking about how it would be neat to have more album challenges because I find I am ending up with a ton of unrelated LOs and not finishing any albums I really want to do.

Hi :) Hope I can join in here too! I'm Ann, from Malaysia but working in Brunei now. I hv one baby son, Mackenzie, who's almost 1 and I've been married for almost 2 years. I work full-time in an IT-related field.

I've done some LOs on Mac but none of the 'major' ones so far :( I keep forgetting to keep track of important stuff and I guess the thought of reviewing back all the videos and photos I've taken to try to recall plus the thought of journaling makes me kinda lazy so I tend to go for the easier, cute, no-journaling type LOs first. I really need to start though or he'll be 5 years old before I know it! I already have more than 10,000 pics of him now!!

Before I found out about this thread, I'd been thinking to start an ongoing baby album challenge where we could discuss album themes and ideas and work on that for the month. Just realised that with a lot of different age babies and also a lot of us are at different scrapping stages, that mightn't be practical. Any ideas? I think I need a challenge to get me going!

I just got the Baby of Mine kit and I finally feel comfortable doing my son's birth story LO's. Wedding and births just seemed too big of a project when I was a newbie (I'm barely out of that now that I finished NKOTB ;) ).
Both those things mean that I've gotten started!
I decided to use the Baby of Mine kit for all LO's in Zach's album that are sort of generic. Meaning that all the photos aren't the same, with the same colors and backgrounds, etc. So when I take his "portraits" each month, I'll use a kit that compliments that photo shoot. But if there's no clear choice of a kit or color scheme to use, I'll use Baby of Mine. Does that make sense?
Here's my first LO (it's a double, though, so does that count as two?) of Zach's birth story. The Big Day (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=126566&cat=500&ppuser=54483)
And here's a milestone LO. This happened yesterday. I find I'm more motivated to scrap pictures I've just taken! Milestone Sitting Up (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=126447&cat=500&ppuser=54483)

Does anyone notice that you don't get many comments on LO's that are in an album as opposed to just being in your gallery?

This is a great place. I want to join you all.
My name is Marie from Glasgow, Scotland. I am 31 years old and (sadly) work full time as an Architect. I have been married to James for 5 years.
I am mummy to Andrew who is almost 20 months who so far is the only subject of my layouts. We have a Golden Retriever dog, Simba.

I started paper just before his birth and discovered digital a few months ago. I’ve only done a handful of layouts and one that is purely digital.

I am basing my scrapbook on one of those ‘baby record books’.
So far I have done
Paper Pages:
Index page with his name and a photo.
Family Tree page with photos hanging from the branches
9 months - double page with the ultrasound pic and pics of my growing belly .
Birth with first photos and his little name wrist tag.

Digital & Paper:
My first vest (onesie)
Baby Fashion

Coming Home – with the photo of him leaving hospital in his car seat and photos of the car and the house we lived in etc.

I am currently working on a page about his teeth coming in with the date of when they appeared.

I got a free baby activity calander from a pregnancy magazine which I filled in. So I’d like to transfer all that info onto a month by month page also. So many Ideas so little time. (I am actually typing this in work and I have lots to do – but this is more fun!)

My album is 12” and I do have an A3 sized printer, but the colour quality is not good. I have printed some in work which is a bit better, but don’t know what to do.

I want to have a printed album to show people and to be able to upload pages to the web.

I am looking forward to getting to know you all. I have already viewed some of your pages before finding this forum.

Rachel & Ann – It would be nice to share your thoughts on being working mums.

Susie – I think I will have less photos/ pages as my son gets older . I got a nice baby gift which was a frame with 12 small apertures and 1 large. For birth 1stmonth etc to 1st birthday. It inspired me to do a double page with one photo for each month. It would be great to do that for years, but it could slow down to a double page showing 1 or 2 photos for each year (1st and last day of the school year maybe).

Jen – I am amazed that with 4 young kids you find time for yourself. Well done you are an inspiration.

Jamie – I had a quick look at your sons website. It is fab.

I’ve not had a chance to view everyone else’s links/ galleries. But can’t wait to look.

Can I ask what are all the kids names (first names) and birthdays. I wonder how close they all are in age.
mine are
Andrew (boy) – 6 January 2005
Simba (female dog) - 29 June 2002

I’d better go do some work now before my boss catches me out.
Take care

Welcome Marie!

Our boys are fairly close in age - Foxton was born on Oct 25-05.

I too would love to hear working mums' thoughts. I have to return to work on October 30. :( I don't really want to, but the bills have been pilling up while I have been on maternity leave. We get a year in Ontario.

My little guys are
Jared 02/03/04 (2 1/2)
Zachary 05/06/06 (almost 4 months)

Jen, my friend (who I'm currently getting addicted to DSP) has you beat--she's got a 4 1/2 yr old, 3 yr old, 21 month old, and 4 month old. Yikes! But somehow she's going to make the time to digiscrap!

Hi Ladies! I could really use a challenge too! I am 32, a SAHM and ready to get going on my pages. Next week My little girl turns 7 months and my son turns 3 years. I am about a year behind on Max's pages and have only managed to do a handful of Kaley.

Maybe we should brain storm on some themes for challenges.

I think I have to postpone my idea on doing the album challenge till after DET.. I think half the site is there, either doing it or cheering on :D But in the meantime, perhaps you guys could come up with some themes you're interested in? I was thinking to start with "Firsts" - first tooth, first bath, first time crawling, etc... This should be general enough even for non-baby people to join in if they wish. Other themes could be "special ocasions" - baptism can be in there, birthdays, christmas, etc. Or perhaps something we should all at least have if nothing else - the monthlies. Any other ideas/suggestions?

Wow, so many posts since I was last here . Great to have everyone here . I havent had much time to scrap for Anna , since Ive been busy with doing my DET layout... mad , mad , mad . It was a nice kit we got for the first round , so that makes it worth it .

Just to introduce myself again - Im Antoinette a 28 yr SAHM , mom to Anna who is almost 7 months old .

I think its a great idea to come up with a list of ideas to scrap - I think I'll put it in another thread though . Then they won't get lost in all our chitter chatter .:) , and can be used as a resource .

Add your ideas there please , themes which youve already done and those you would like to do.

Ive loved looking at all your layouts - keep the links coming , ive tried to add comments to most of them .

I decided to do my first Quick Click (the freebie this week). It reminded me a tiny bit of the LO I did of Zach's sitting up milestone, so I decided to do Jared's sitting up milestone with it.
http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=128876&cat=500&ppuser=54483

I'm especially proud of my idea to use the "ribbon" as a monthly slider and the diaper pin as the marker. I hope that made sense. I'm going to have to try to incorporate that into some more LO's.

Hi everyone

Hannah –
In the UK we can also take a year Mat leave but the 2nd 6 months was unpaid. I had to go back after 6 months for financial reasons. But hope, in a few years, for no. 2 to be in a better position and maybe take the year off then go back part time. Although I found it hard going back after 6 as I felt I had ‘forgotten’ how to do my job. But I have settled in now, although my confidence it a bit lower. But at the same time I am not as interested in work. It is a job, it is quite interesting, but I can’t wait to get home at the end of the day.
I have never heard the name Foxton before. Where did it come form ? Is it a family name or did you just choose it ?
I was in Ontario this May for a week. My cousins live in Toronto (I stayed at ‘The Beach’) and we drove to Ottawa (Neapan) for my other cousins wedding.

Jen –
Can I ask a personal question ? Did you choose to have your 3 oldest so close together. Or where you of the just let nature take its course and surprise us ? I suspect now you are past the early years you look back and think you wouldn’t do it any other way.

Hi to everyone else!

So how does the album challenge work. Is the info on another thread ?

I’d better go get back to work.

Can I join? I am a SAHM to triplets who just turned 2 August 25. I have been scrapping for 8 plus years (paper scrapping) and just learned how to digital scrapbook a week before their 2nd birthday. I am very behind on their photos since I take photos constantly and have little time to scrap except for at night when they are sleeping. I started to scrap out of order for 2 years now and hope to go back and do more of their baby photos. Maybe this will be the jump start I need.

Hi new (and not so new) moms!

My name is Kristen and I am 35 and a new mom to 10 month old Ryan, I went back to work when he was 3 months for 2 days a week and only until the end of the year (my husband thinks it's so I can take care of Ryan, but it's really digi scrapping I'm after!! LOL)

I would love to put a chronological album together. I was wondering what other people had thought of themed vs. not themed, and I agree with (I think it was Rachel) I love all textures and elements and backgrounds of so many different kits I would have a tough time deciding which one to use, so I think I will just use a kit that matches the photos I choose.

Anways, this is great - i started a paper scrapbook (only a few pages) so I will need to go back and redo- but I would like (ideally) to have at least 13 pages, my pregnancy (or ultrasound) and then 1 for each month - maybe a few extras for christening or such.. :)

Well off to scrap! (well work and THEN scrap!)

this challenge has really inspired me! This LO will be the 2nd page and part of a 2-page LO - I just need to scan a few items to do the next page. The first page is WIP LOL! It's me 7 months pregnant. :)

What I thought I would do is instead of picking just ONE kit or using a different one for each LO - I would take the 2page LO and use a kit for that one.. so when you are flipping the pages, the pages will look coordinated.

I would love any feedback/cc on this.

Perhaps you could combine scrapbooking with the requirement to do your birth announcements. There are several freebies that would work, not to mention the umpteen number kits in the store, for babies and specifically baby boys. Make the layout a 4x6 (standard photo) or whatever size you please and just print them off and include a thank you in the envelope. I am currently working on a birthday invitation for my son’s first birthday party.

EDIT: And here is is First Birthday Invitation (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=135143&cat=500&ppuser=49906)

Okay, I've really got to get this figured out. I've been organizing my gallery and I don't know where to put the LO's of my boys together--Brother Layouts. Meeting Baby Brother (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=126814&cat=500&ppuser=54483) I suppose should go in Zach's? (that's the baby)
But what about these two?
Brothers Enamored (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=131448&cat=500&ppuser=54483)
A Big Brother Is Born (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=118824&cat=500&ppuser=54483)

This is important because I am trying to organize my LO's where they'll go once they're printed, and trying to find good deals on scrapbooks to put them in. (so far the most expensive one was $5.50!!!) I want to try to figure out how many books I'll need to buy.

For you more experienced scrappers, how many pages do you typically fit in a postbound book? They usually come with about 20 pages, so that's 40 LO's? How many more can I fit in, about? I'm trying to decide where to split albums--at 12 months or just until I can't fit any more in, then move on to a new book.

Does anyone have any advice for me?

handkl
10-05-2006, 12:08 PM
Great layout Susie! For your albums, I would think that the organization is completely up to you...perhaps some of the double layout could go in both as they are something that both Jared and Zachary will cherish down the road. Quick question though, are you sure your albums are for 40 layouts on 20 pages. I have only been able to find albums with 10 pages which would mean 20 layouts. Either way, I would put as many layouts in the album as you please...I am going to added pages to mine as you can't possible fit all the events, pictures, etc. into 20 layouts.

In the meantime, here is a simple layout I uploaded of Foxton last night Peek-a-Boo (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=136214&cat=500&ppuser=49906)

Okay, so I looked at the scrapbooks I bought, and you're right. It says it has 20 pages, but that means it holds 20 pages. I did discover that some 12x12 books I bought for $5 each have 15 pages, so they'll hold 30.
Does anyone know how many refill pages you can usually stuff into one of these things before they pop? I don't want them to be so fat that they don't lay flat, but I figure that these were meant to hold bulky paper pages, so I ought to be able to get more flat digital pages in there.

tleland
10-05-2006, 06:04 PM
Susie,
I managed to cram 30 page protectors (60 pages) into a K&Company 12x12 scrapbook. These were fluffy paper pages....and it was difficult....I swore that I would NEVER do that again. Your limiting factor is the spine of the book. You can buy as many extender posts as you want. To keep the book lying flat, you may need to use a bit of extra cardboard in between pages every so often to keep the spine even with the side of the book. K & Company books have a thick paper spine with sliding holes....I had to punch extra holes in mine...and getting that many pages in and still getting the posts through is really a nightmare. You might even want to check into the hinge straps (I haven't tried them yet, but that is supposed to be easier and they work with post bound albums).

Tammy

Susie, I think that anyone who reads that I tried to stuff 30 paper pages into one scrapbook could tell that I was new to it at the time too:) I do think you could probably get 30 digital pages into a book with just a little pain, but I really don't think I would go past that at least on a K&Co type book.

Things I learned while putting 1st year scrapbook together:
1. If you buy the wrong page protectors, take them back immediately don't try to make them work
2. Those little cardboard strips they give you work best spaced out throughout the book instead of all at the front and back (especially if there are a lot of pages)
3. You can make that little binding a bit bigger with a hole punch (but I don't recommend it)
4. Check to make sure you are putting page protectors in right side up before you screw in those posts for the ?@#!? time
5. They sell longer posts
6. Bigger albums are more wobbly (although a harder spine would probably solve this problem) and they are more difficult to lug around with you in general
7. Toddlers love to look at pictures of themselves...you might want to consider a smaller second book for this purpose (I have made copies in 8x8)

I'm sure I should have learned a lot more as I took this stupid book apart WAY too many times, but this is what stands out in my memory.
Lots of luck!

the first scrapbook I created ever was for my grandma's 80th birthday (http://www.eriwyn.com/scrapbooks/GrandmaDolly80th2004/index.htm).

it was an 8.5x12, had 68 (layout) pages or 34 pages (all protected)... postbound album (walmart buy)... and I don't know how many times I had gone to the local scrapping store to get more posts... It still looks like it wants desperately to explode... I have moved on to strap-hinged albums, but I also haven't made that many pages since either....

Well I thought I would share my latest layout for my daughter's book...

This one is inspired by a kit that is not yet in the store but I know you guys will love. It is called Diaper Bag Denim and is by Elizabeth Weaver. It comes with a diaper and sippy cup and is so fun... well anyway here it is http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=139689&cat=500&ppuser=20407

I also wanted to include my son's 1st invite in case you needed ideas.. that quick click is wonderful for birthdays or months... http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=138637&cat=500&ppuser=20407

Is this group still going? If so, I'd like to join. My name is Margo and I'm a mom to 2 boys, 3 yrs and 6 weeks. I'm currently working on a baby album and family album.

I just started digital scrapping and need lots of feedback and ideas on how to get better. I stare at pages to get ideas, try my own, and then end up getting rid of all the pages I make because they don't look right. I am also looking for a large kit to use for my baby album pages.

I finally made a page that I'm willing to post and would love some help/feedback!This is as good as it gets right now, lol.

Stop deleting your pages! Even if you don't like them, save them. I have lots of those that I hate, but as I learn more and more about how to make good layouts, I look back on them and can identify what is wrong with them. I've even gone back and changed some without having to start from scratch. I also have posted some and gotten great feedback that helps me identify what bugs me about them.
Since you have two boys, I recommend Baby of Mine (Boy) (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=2271). I use it all the time for my baby layouts. It's quintessentially baby, and definitely boy, plus I've added lots of things to it from other kits and freebies. For example, I've recolored some flowers to match it, then saved them in the file with the purchased kit. it just seems so flexible!
If you haven't discovered this great feature of DSP, when you are looking at the kit in the store, you can click on the button that says "Samples" and it will show you lots of layouts that people have done with that kit. You'll see lots of mine in there!

We applied for 4 passports last month (ouch, that's expensive!) and received 4 coupons for free photo books from Shutterfly. I've tried uploading some LO's and they work! So all I have to pay is about $8 shipping per book, plus a little extra if I want more than 20 pages in each one.
Here's the problem. They do make 12x12 books, but the coupons are only good for 11x8.5. That's right, landscape letter-sized. So now I have to convert all my LO's to that size!
And the bigger problem is that I have a scattering of LO's done, not a cohesive book. And there's a time limit. I have to order them by March. And I've done more LO's of recent photos than of old ones, so I have more in Zach's book than in Jared's, but Zach will only be 10 months old by then, so I CAN'T get his baby book done--he won't be done living it!
Maybe each boy will be getting two 20-page books and I'll just have to fork over the dough for a matching one when the second half of Zach's is done.
Did that make any sense?
Here's my first attempt to get Jared's book done. I just realized that on the month pages, I want to put height and weight, so I'll have to add that. My only concern with it is that I just HAVE to have these photos in black and white, but it's a big departure from the pastels of the rest of the book. Oh well!

I've only got a couple pages so far for the new baby but I'm doing better with him than I did with my older son I didn't start doing pages for him until he was almost 4 months old. At least Quin is only a month old.

Today I got to try to recreate my favorite photo shoot from my first son's first year! I wasn't sure how well it was going, but I think I got a few good ones. Zach is wearing the same overalls that Jared wore, even. All future babies are doomed to repeat this photo shoot!!! I love it love it love it.
Anywho, I replaced the photos from Jared's 6 month LO with Zach's. Talk about easy--everything was already done!

I'm with you, Ant. I went more than a month without doing a single LO! But Christmas is over, and since then I've done 6, I think! Not bad for just 3 days. But I've got to get a move on--I need to fill up 4 20-page photo books by March 31st (free photo book offer from Shutterfly). And annoyingly, they have to be 11x 8.5.
I have a few more done. I've posted them two at a time, showing how the pages will face each other in the book.

I still haven't got all the newborn photos scrapped of the 2 yr old and the 1 yr old so with two more already I decided this was the best way to go!

Hey all. I've been MIA for a while now, but I really need to get back into scrapbooking.

My little girl Amelia just turned 3 months and I really want to start doing some scrapbook pages about her. Possibly print them out into an ongoing album all about her. No theme, just whatever colors/layout the photo needs.

Maybe this challenge/thread is just what I need to get my creative juices flowing again. I'm about to upgrade my Hard Drive on a Mac computer, so it might not be today that I get around to working on anything. But hopefully I'll get a few done soon and post them in the gallery with links here. :)

A friend just sent me this and gave me a smile :)

I was out walking with my 4-year-old daughter. She picked up something off the ground and started to put it in her mouth. I took the item away from her and I asked her not to do that. "Why?" my daughter asked. "Because it's been on the ground, you don't know where it's been, it's dirty and probably has germs" I replied.

At this point, my daughter looked at me with total admiration and asked, "Mummy, how do you know all this stuff?"

"Uh," I was thinking quickly. "All mums know this stuff. It's on the Mummy Test. You have to know it, or they don't let you be a Mummy."

We walked along in silence for 2 or 3 minutes, but she was evidently pondering this new information.

"OH... I get it!" she beamed, "So if you don't pass the test you have to be the daddy."

"Exactly" I replied with a big smile on my face.

Have a good day, everyone :)

I have been working on a book of our trip to El Salvador (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=3954), but managed to squeeze in one LO about the baby. Hi everyone

I've not been logged on for ages and my scrapbook hasn't progressed very fast.

I have added one new layout to my gallery. It is the 2nd of a double page. Called 'Andrew 6 - 12 months'. I have chosen 1 photo for each month of his 1st year and put 6 on each page. I really need to get his 1st year completed soon, as he is now 2 & 3mths.

I am working on a page noting when all his teeth came in, but have not taken a note of everyone so I'll have to cheat a little and make some dates up!
My other pages planned but not started are "My mummy & daddy", "My Best Friend (my dog)", "1sts - steps, words etc", "Baptism", "1st & 2nd Christmas", "1st & 2nd Birthday", "Holiday's"

Help I have so much to do and no time to do it!

How is everyone doing ?

I've just found some time to scrap after we moved, and then we didn't have internet. Now we only have dial-up, which is driving me nuts. So I've been MIA!
I'm really frustrated because I have to go back and redo a lot of Zach's baby book. I printed my first LO's in a book through Shutterfly, and now I want to do all my books that way (except through Wal-Mart). But that means that I have to convert all of my LO's to 11x8.5 (the 12x12 are too expensive)
I just managed to upload 4 LO's for Zach's baby book. He's 14 months now. So that makes 6 LO's that are done for his scrapbook. I've got to get moving.
Here's the link to Zach's album (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=3082). I've put them in order, with the ones that are ready for printing first.

susie, how hard did you find to redo your layouts? I'm having similar issues with an album I'm doing for my Daughter, because i know i'll want the finished product to be printed, but the cost is quicte probihitive. I'm still tossing up between just downsizing to an 8x8 and pay a little extra for printing or changing to an A4 layout like you have. I would love to hear the thought process behind your decisions and how easy/hard you found it?

TIA

It's actually kind of fun. I've just been able to find some time to scrap, and I've been away so long that my creative juices were kind of stagnant. Going back to resizing my layouts, I didn't have to choose photos or which supplies to use, and I didn't have to recolor them to match (I do that a lot). I just opened my original file and a new horizontal letter-sized page, linked everything I wanted to keep, and dragged it over to the new file. And it gives me a chance to improve upon some of my earlier LO's, now that I'm an expert :D NOT. But I'm better than I was.
The reason I'm doing a horizontal letter-sized is because of price. Shutterfly, Snapfish, Costco, and lots of other online photo places will print your LO's that size, and bind them professionally into a book. No page protectors or scrapbooks to buy, no trimming large photos to fit in a regular scrapbook, etc. And the cost is such a difference!
I researched lots of places based just on price. I don't know the quality except that I had two books printed at Shutterfly (I had vouchers for free books). They look awesome! I think their books, including shipping, cost about $40 for 20 front-to-back pages (ten sheets of paper, 20 LO's). They're rather insubstantial because they're only 10 pages long, but you can add more pages, up to 100 total (50 sheets of paper, 100 LO's) for $1 per page.
Costco does it a little cheaper, and Snapfish is cheaper than that, but WalMart is the cheapest I've found! They actually use Snapfish, but for some reason it's cheaper than going through Snapfish itself. Now, I've liked Shutterfly's quality better than Snapfish when it comes to photo prints, so I'm a little nervous about their photo books. But check out the price: $20 in your hands. The books are $18.75 or something like that for 20 pages, and you can get free shipping if your local store allows ship-to-store. It's $2 for each additional 2 pages you add. That comes out to $1 per page.
So here's the comparison I made. I could print 12x12 pages at Costco for $3 each, and then buy a ~$20 scrapbook. Let's compare a 20 page scrapbook and a 100 page scrapbook.
20 pages
Costco: $3 per page x 20 + $20 scrapbook = $80
WalMart: $1 per page x $20 = $20
Price difference $60

100 pages
Costco: $3 per page x 100 + $20 per scrapbook x 2 = $360
WalMart: $1 per page x100 = $100
Price difference $260

If storage is an issue, these photo books help there, too. They're much slimmer than a scrapbook, although to me it makes them feel less substantial. That's my only negative I have about them.

Shutterfly has started printing 12x12 scrapbooks, and you can even design the cover as a LO and they'll print it on the cover, spine, and back. That's really cool, but the cost was considerably more, so I haven't really considered it.

Oh, and the first page of the photo book usually has a peek-through window, so you'll need to design a title page or your first LO so that something good shows through. If you look at these title pages (1) (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=178065&cat=3954) (2) (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=178064&cat=3954), you'll see what I mean. Those are for the two books I've printed. When the book is closed, the photo of the Mayan temple shows through on the first book, and on the second, the photo of my family shows through. On my sons' baby books, I plan on putting their birth announcements on the title page with an appropriate part of it (because I don't think they're the same proportions as the window) showing through.

Wow, I hope that was enough information, but that it wasn't too much! If you have any questions, or if I forgot anything, please ask. I'm convinced this is the right way for me to do this right now, so I'm happy to share!

That was a fantastic amoutn of information, thanks so much. In Australia, our printing options are limited and nowhere near as cheap as those in the US. We have a local snapfish website here but not shutterfly, so shipping would from the U.S. which would add to the costs. I've found an online photobook place that seems fairly reasonably priced called Viovio, but haven't ordered from them yet so unsure as to the quality. I agree with you though that photobooks have a lot of advantges for a themed album.

Hope you ladies don't mind me joining you. We have just immigrated to NZ from South Africa. I am 29 and my baby girl is 10 and half months old. I have started scrapping after her birth so I am relatively new to it as she doesn't give me much time to practice.
I have tried to add a signiture but it doesn't show
