We all know that doodles are a large part of the freestyle look. So tonight we are going to focus on doodles.
BUT.....we don't want to just doodle for doodles sake!! With this week's challenge we want you to come up with a freestyle layout that uses doodles for a specific design reason in your layout.
You might wonder what design purpose a doodle can serve. Well....here are just a few ideas (I'll bet you will be able to come up with more!)
1. Doodles can enhance a theme....if you are doing a garden theme and have flower doodles it enhances your theme.
example:
http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=106084&cat=500&ppuser=1383
2. Doodles can enhance or draw the eye to your focal point
example: http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=123253&cat=994
3. Doodles can 'ground' an element
example: http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=123289&cat=994
4. Doodles can 'frame' an element
example:http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=123390&cat=994
4. Doodles can 'ground' a layout
example:
http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=107874&cat=500&ppuser=1383
5. Doodles can provide balance to an open space layout
example:
http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=104875&cat=500&ppuser=1383
These are just a few of the ways that you can use doodles in your layouts. So have fun, play around with those doodles and then when you post it let us know the design purpose your doodles fulfill. To receive the posting bonus, be sure and use one of Suzanne's products in your layout.
All right everyone.........
Let's FANDANGO!!!!!!

Here's one for me. I used Suzannes posting bonus to Frame these pictures. I couldn't find item # to link it, as soon as it goes into the store I will put it in.

Can someone explain what this means? or maybe give me another example to add to this one... By the way Debb your layouts are all amazing! and such great examples for those of us that are new at this freestyle thing...

Too tied at work just now to make the chat :( I just wanted to reconfirm that there's no specific assigned kit to use for this challenge and any of Suz's products will qualify?
Yippe! Yippeeee! [Tara jumps up and down with glee!] I actually finished a layout for this challenge! And not at the last minute either! This no-rules freestyle thing is quite new for me so all CC is GREATLY appreciated.

Oh yeah - I guess the frames ground the layout (?) and the doodles/frames frame the picture (?) Not so sure about that!

Perhaps 'ground' isn't the best word to use. The idea I was trying to illustrate with this layout is that doodles can help unite different elements on a page so that there is a visual relationship between the elements. In the case of this example the arrow doodles are the bottom layer of this layout and because they run from the bottom part of the layout (where the title starts) to the middle of the photo (where the first arrow comes out) and then to the top of the photo (where the top arrow comes out) the doodles serve to connect/unite/ground the title to the rest of the layout. Does that make sense? Sorry for the confusion. Each of the examples listed are just some of the ways doodles can serve to advance the design of your layout. But it is no means an exhausitive list and you are not limited to those examples. If you can come up with other ways you can use a doodle to contribute to your design I would encourage you to use it and share it with the rest of us so that we can all grow in our understanding.
Thank you so much Mariafer both for the kinds words regarding my layouts and for also helping me to be more clear in my explanation of things. (At least I HOPE I'm being more clear!! ;) :D )

There is no specific kit to qulifiy for this week's challenge....just so long as you use one of Suzanne's wonderful products.

I was sorry to miss the chat last night... I popped in right as you all were leaving in... boo-hoo! Here's my layout for the challenge, Soar (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=123607&page=0),
which is doing double duty for Rene Bross' Where The Boys Are Challenge (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16424).
I used Suzanne's arrow doodle to enhance the soaring theme and to connect the photo and the title. I also used one of her heart doodles on the background to fill in space and add a little visual interest to the open space.
CC welcome.

I did another and put it in the Fandango gallery...
http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=123664&cat=2943
I used a frame from Suzanne's Kid Doodles pack combined with a doodle from her Sweetheart package. I thought the doodle looked like winter wind reenforcing the feel of the page.
Great challenge... it's hard to resist the urge to stick doodles everywhere 'cause they're so fun!! A great "fandango" lesson.

Ok here is my first humble attempt. I did this lo for fun yesterday but I think it fits this challenge.
I used the arrow on the photo to show my dd. Since the photo is pretty far away. I also used doodles around the the title and journaling to help them stand out. With all the busy dots I thought it got lost a bit and this helped.
Let me know what you think.
http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=123680&nocache=1
Debb suggested I link this in the fandango... tho the only doodles i have on it are the circles on the dates?
http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=123668
Debb, am I linking in the wrong place? If so, sorry1

Tina, I was thinking more in the general fandango forum, but regardless of where you place it I really wanted people to see this layout because it is such a terrific example of a freestyle layout. AND...while your calendar word art isn't a 'doodle' in the classic sense of the word you did add those little hand-drawn circles. This just goes to show that doodles don't have to be over the top to be really effective!! ;) Thank you for sharing your wonderful talent with us my friend!!

Ok here is my try at doodles.. hope I got it... I didn't add any other elements so oh well but I wanted to keep it simple. If you have any cc or ideas let me know... It is in the Renes boys challenge gallery since last week I put it in this gallery. Should I post it two times or is this ok?

Okay here's my first attempt at Doodling with a Design plan in mind. It's in the Backpacking with Lisa Carter Gallery because I used her In the "Hood" Backpack and it's wonderful colors of textured paper for the background. I used Suzanne's Edges 6 (again -love it!) to frame the photo and also to unite all the elements; white space, word art, mat and photo. I used a lot more but pulled back and left it like this. I think I need to do another one for practice - and FUN!

I didn't create this specifically for the challenge, but there are doodles in there somewhere. LOL. This is very "freestyle" for me, is it too cluttered? I have no idea what I was thinking while I was making this -- I don't think I was thinking! Just creating. :D
http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=124057
I'm thinking the doodles tend to ground the layout, either that or draw the eye to the focal point? I'm not sure there even is a focal point! LOL

I did double duty with Lauren's Gimme with Tate's eyes. And I used Suzanne's doodle arrows Set 1 to draw attention (#2) the focal point (my little girl) in my layout.
Let me know how you like it! I love the colors and Suzanne's arrows fit perfectly with no recoloring or anything - left 'em black and they look awesome!
