Some may know this already - this is just for those who dont - worth posting if it helps just one!
In addition to being able to hide or show the files palette and stack you can also undock them.(change them into floating palettes)
To undock or dock the files palette or the stack:
View/dock submenu (when the check mark is present the item is docked)
When undocked you can change the size and shape of the files palette or stack window by clicking and dragging any edge!
