Hello ! My scanner is out of order and as my printer is an old one too I'd like to buy a scanner-printer because I wish to print by myself my pictures...and of course some good papers and so a better quality of definition than with my old printer :p
I had a look and think about the EPSON Stylus photo RX640...
Do you have any experience about this one ?
Do you have any other suggestion ?
Thanks for your help !

hi

The problem with getting an all in one printer, scanner etc. is they do a good job of all its functions.....but for the best printing, you are best to get a dedicated photo printer.
The epson RX800 (I think that is the number) is an outstanding printer for its price range.....the Rx300 is a little cheaper and almost as good...
as far as a scanner goes, they are quite cheap now...... seems the more money you pay for one, the only thing you get different is a bit more resolution and a faster scan.
I would stick to either canon, HP, or Epson.
you need to look for Optical resolution.... that is the true resolution, as anything else is software resolution....2400x2400 optical resolution is cheap now a days...... go for at least 36 bit color.....48 is better.....

hope this helps without confusion....

one more important thing....... once you make a choice, google the printer or scanner and see what the reviews are.....invaluable in a decision...

I can't tell you anything about the epson, but I can give you another option to look at. My husband gets the HP Photosmart All in one printer for a lot of his customers. Its very easy to use, and does a great job with printing. You can even print directly from your camera without using the computer.

dh recently purchased an HP 3300 all-in-one. I like the scanner much better than my old one. Photo printing is adequate quality, although the colors seem a little washed out. You can tweak the settings. I don't print much of anything at home though. His main reason to purchase was because it is wireless so we can both use it easily and reduce cables. And he and the oldest dd like to plop their camera card in to print a quick photo. Me...I have to play with mine before I print them, lol. For just photo printing, I don't think any all-in-one is going to have as good of quality as a photo printer.

I just bought an Epson Stylus CX4800. I bought it mainly to be a scanner and a PLAIN PAPER printer/copier. I did print a few pictures with the sample digital paper included with the new printer. It was passable but not great. But, if you're looking mainly to print documents, you should be very pleased with the printing results. For the price (low), it's a nice little document printer.

I've tried out the scanner, and I'm pleased with the results. The software included is very easy to use. The unit itself is very compact, so if I ever buy a laptop, I'm going to take my Epson and my laptop up to my mother-in-law's house. She won't let me take any family pictures out of the house so I can copy them. But, I could take a laptop and my Epson and scan all my husband's childhood photos. :)

I have the epson rx500, and I love it (however when printing it does use a lot of ink) I scanned a photo and printed it, and showed to people and didn't tell them which was the original. Of the 3 people I showed it to, they all chose the copy as the original. I highly reccommend epson. Now if you want the best possible scanning/printing... I would purchase the scanner and printer seperately... individually they give them better specs... but like I said, I love my all in one... It does an excellent job. I've had canon's, lexmark's, and HP's... and have never been satisfied with any of them.

If you still aren't sure, try looking at sites like pcmag.com or cnet reviews, pcworld... they usually have indepth reviews, they do testing, consumer reviews... I never buy any electronics without consulting at least one of those sites.

Hi, I use my Canon I9900 and love it. I did major research, read tons of reviews before buying it. I love that it works with 6 different print color and each cartridge is only about $10, which is so much better than having to buy expensive multicolor cartridges. I use staples double sided matte photo supreme paper. I use the 13 x 19 size, which allows me to print one 12 x 12 and 2 6 x 6 pages on each side!! Hope this helps!!

I personally would not get an all in one printer....I bought one a couple of years back. The print quality is not bad, but when I scan I have these little spots on the scanned picture....what happens is when you print the little flecks of paper get lodged under the scanner glass, you can't get to them to clean (need to send it in for cleaning). So if you want good quality scans I would go with a separate printer and separate scanner.....

I thought I wanted everything compacted to save on space but lost some quality in doing it that way...
