View Full Version : Flylady Challenge - 15 Minutes

Heather from another site started a Flylady challenge on her blog. I was the only one who responded to her first post and she has not posted any further entries. So I thought it would be fun to motivate the new flybabies in the NSGC group.
I decided to post in the challenge area becuase there may be flybabies who don't follow the NSGC group and would like to participate. If you don't know about flylady and you feel you need help getting organized and finding a balance between digi scrapping and taking care of your home you can find info out at www.flylady.com
Flylady says you can do anything in 15 minutes. Pick a room or area in your house that you want to spend 15 minutes in. Take a before picture. Then put your timer on for 15 minutes and go to town. When the timer goes off, take another picture. The area you worked on does not have to be perfect or complete. But take another picture so you can see what you accomplished in 15 minutes.
If inclined do a layout. This will be a reminder in the future that 15 minutes CAN make a difference!
Now for me...I started off bad because my digital camera was somewhere in the pile of papers on my desk. So I had to hunt up my old digital camera just to take the before picture!
Here is my take on You Can Do Anything In 15 Minutes (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=133032)
This is just a fun challenge. No freebies...your reward will be a feeling of control and peace. Along with the knowledge that you can be an addicted digi scrapper and still manage your home.
Ok...on your mark...get timer set for 15 minutes...and GO!!!

Wonderful idea! Now I just need to decide which hot-spot will produce the most dramatic results in 15 minutes!:D

The Flylady is EVIL I tell you, but she has a good point. If only I could get my kids to buy into the idea that it only takes 15 mins a day to keep their mom from becoming a human volcano. But alas, no one here understands the concept of "a little bit at a time" It is all or nothing for the kides, the husband, and even for me at times. But I must admit to internalizing this concept to the extent that I will putter in whatever room I'm in for whatever length of time I have while monitoring homework, getting kids out the door in the morning. and so forth. Is my house clutter-free? Heck no, but it is in better shape than it would be if I did nothing. Now to start that 15 mins of aerobic exercise each day. (For all of us including el dog.)
I'm in on this challenge, but I'll have to choose a hot spot from the MANY that exist in my humble and terribly messy home.
Hopefully, I can do the layout as quickly.
Hmmm, where to begin...

Tidied Book Shelves............Everything looks MUCH better.........
Flylady is not an overnight process.......I've found it takes lots of time.....and comes in many layers. 3 steps forward and sometimes 1-2 back.....but keep moving forward-
:)
flylady saved my life! I got on a sewing list about 5 years ago where these women were always posting their beautiful projects, and I made a comment that if I could get off the computer long enough to clean my house I might have time to sew. A kind lady directed me to flylady, and I went on a 3-month honeymoon with her, LOL! Now I feel like I get a lot done and my house is pretty clean considering how much time I still waste on the computer.
This could be a scrapping challenge too. I encourage my students who get behind to just spend 15 minutes here or there reading or working on the lessons. It may take you 6 months to finish, but it's better than never!
with a baby 15 minutes is really all I have, and the house shows it, lol! but I must say it's a lot cleaner than it used to be with a baby around.

Oh man Emma...with a baby you're lucky to get 15 minutes just to go potty:)
Yep...15 minutes at a time is how I finally got through week 3 of DSU241. I don't know why but I was having a mental block about it. Set my timer for 15 minutes and thought...lets see what I can do!

What a GREAT site!! I'll be checking it out in depth here shortly! Growing up, we'd (my sisters, mom and I) would have a "10 minute pick up". We'd each be assigned an area and Mom would set the timer on the stove and away we'd go. Whenever Dad walked in and saw us all scurring around he knew it was "10 minute pick up" time!! Thanks for sharing this!!!

Canay, what a great challenge! I think I'll give this a try right now, although I'm tempted to do a bit of cleaning up before taking my "before" shot! I love your layout!

I used to fly too. I go off and on with her program. I'm the type of person who just hates cleaning. I do follow a schedule which really helps while raising multiples. I just need to set my timer and fly again. My major issue now is the kids toys and paper clutter. Will take your challenge this week. What a great idea.

THANKS so much for this challenge, Canay! I went to flylady once before when seeing it here and only looked it over very briefly (I really like Tony Robbins RPM plan. But, I thought I'd read a bit and joined. Got my first email and it follows lots of Tony's suggestions too. Day 1...Shine the Sink! Tony says we don't follow through on lots of things because we don't have big enough goals...we have boring goals. Well, cleaning the sink might be boring, but not SHINING the sink! :-) So, I'm in... started with Shining the Sink and here's my LO... I am going to do a page for each day and have a completed album when through. Ha! What fun! Thanks sooo much!
So, here's my first page which also doubles for Beginnings with Bethy. And it could go for Preserving Everyday Snapshots for last week (course probably all from this one could :-) I FEEL GREAT! :-)

I am a Flybaby - not so successfully over the Christmas period - but even when I don't get everything done the flybaby sense of humor helps a little.

Happy New Year everyone! Are you all up for a new challenge? Every year Flylady has a new motto. I like to do a layout about what the current motto means to me. Here are the layouts I've done in the past. http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=1718 You can also see my poor attempt at making a Flylady Challenge blinkie. LOL
Flylady's motto for 2007 is:
"Progress, NOT Perfection" in 2007
I will be working on my layout over the next few days and I'll post a link here when I finish.
Let's see what Progress means to you!

This is such a great idea!! My four year old son was into "Big Comfy Couch" a show on PBS down here. and they have the "10 second tidy" where the character puts away all the toys in just 10 seconds (in fast speed). All I have to say is it is time for the 10 second tidy, and he scurries around the room like a tornado picking up all his toys. (Problem is it usually takes longer than 10 seconds to put them all away... lol)

I have a dream.....a dream of clean rooms and happy faces. A dream of sparkling silver and tinkling crystal. I have a hope...a hope of a future filled with fun and laughter...and room to walk through the house.
I have a plan....a plan to clean my three main rooms: kitchen, living room, and bathroom by no later than 6 pm today.
I have....4 hours. Wish me luck!!! :D

Ok - so....my dream didn't pan out. I did not get all 3 main rooms done....
In fact...I didn't even finish one...although it's almost done. Hubby said he'd fold the laundry and do the top of his desk cuz I'd done everything else. I tried to vacuum but there was something wrong with it, so hubby is fixing that, and he's gonna do that too so I can go chat in SNL. Isn't that so nice of him???
So...even though I didn't get everything done, I'm so proud of the fact that I didn't just quit in the middle when I knew I wasn't going to get done. I feel really good about how nice my living room looks right now. It's looking much homier...
anyway....I'll post a before and after layout so you can see the drastic changes. (This is normally a chore the kids do, so you can probably imagine where I found things stuffed lol)

aahhh the beauty is you don't have to make any committment in the beginning. Ahen Flylady started she did one new thing a month
A baby does not become an adult overnight...hence a flybaby does not become a flylady overnigt either. Go very, very slowly in the beginning so you don't burn out.
Good luck:)

I just signed up today. For some reason this site kept coming up in conversations the past couple of days. So I was curious. Is a rather overwhelming site. Don't quite know where to start.

Hi Lori...the site can be overwhelming at first because there's so much info. I found the best thing to do is just start with the beginning steps...she has it laid out wonderfully. Shine your sink! :-)
Okay, I'll start with the baby steps first then, thank you.
I discovered years ago that it takes next to no time to wipe up a new spill, polish the shower while I'm in there, and pick up after myself as I go along. It takes a major slot out of my calendar to do all of these tasks if I let them pile up. There are some awesome tips, and reading through them is helpful - just don't try to accomplish everything or change all of your habits overnight.

Have been organizing and cleaning our apartment the FlyLady way for almost 3 years now, and it works well! I've taken pictures of my shined and polished sink, and will make a LO with it.

It must be that spring is in the air, I would have taken some pictures of before and after but I cleaned the house top to bottom yesterday including moving the furniture all around! So this one came to my attention a day late! But thouse of you who have gotten your areas started and done, Way to get rid of that CLUTTER!
I finally put in my 15 minutes and redid our schedule. I have to redo it every few months as activities and school schedules change. Supernanny would be proud! I use large type, print it out on several sheets, then tape the long "poster" to my pantry door. It has a daily schedule, activities we do each week, and chore lists for everyone in the family. I also updated my Zone list, printed out 2007 calendars (I know it's July, I've been avoiding it a long time!), and decided I'm doing the same zone for a month instead of a week. I always lose track of where I am, so I just don't do it!
I think I have all these charts online somewhere...gearing up for school to start, and ready to get back on a routine. I love the slovenly summer, but it's starting to wear me down being so lazy!
