I'm browsing the gallery and realize you guys are usually only putting one or a few pics per page. I take A LOT of photos on most occasions and want to keep most of them. Do you think lots of pics per page is too cluttered or sloppy? How do you choose what photos to put on album pages?

Hi! I usually only use a relatively few number of pics on a page - maybe 2 or 3 - it's not too hard for me because out of the numerous pics I take, I usually only really really love 2 or 3 of any event and I really like them to stand out on the page. If I like more, than I just make more pages! However, if there are a lot of pics that I want to use but don't necessarily want to make a ton of pages, I will go for the collage look or color blocking look, usually using FotoFusion. HTH!

If I have more than two pictures I want to use on a layout, I'll make it a two-pager. I prefer my layouts clean and uncluttered, but that's probably because I have not gotten the hang of collage style. I can't seem to create a layout like that without it looking sloppy. I envy those that can really make it work! Someone want to teach me? :D

ooh, Great question! I try to limit the photos to 1, 2, or 3 especially if they're really similar. I choose the best.

Now, that said, I have some pages I love with many, many photos on it. Those are either montages, or have many very small photos with an accent photo

Here's one that's "contact sheet" style with a scrappy background

This my FAVORTIE multi-photo layout of mine

I see a lot in my gallery where I've used 4 photos, but it's so much harder to position and set up the composition with each added photo. After about 3, I really start to get frustrated with the pushing around and trying to make it work on just one page. I often have to delete several of them.
I also have a lot of layouts not posted here because they're my "photo shoot" layouts where I put a ton on a page, maybe with some decoration or apt quote, but they're nothing special, just for our family. My artistic ones have less photos and more room for art :)

Here's a montage I made with 4 portraits, and 3 or 4 design photos

So it's all up to the designer, and how much you can juggle. If it looks sloppy to you, axe one or two until it works. You can always make another page or a "photo shoot" layout.

Have fun!

Michele, I've often wondered if people who started as paper scrappers use more pictures as a rule. I don't know but it's crossed my mind. For me it's a cost thing - I plan to print most of my layouts and I want lots of photos on a page. Overall my goal is to get a good sharp look with a number of pictures on a 12 x 12 layout. One resource that can really help with this is a book by Becky Higgins called "Sketch It". She gives sketches for layouts using one picture, two pictures all the way up to 10 or more pictures on one page! It is really helpful!
For me if I am only going to use one picture then it is a super special picture or I"m making a 6 x 6 page. But there again - it varies with the purpose of the layout, album and size!
The great news is there is no one right way! We can all do whatever we want for whatever reason! I love that! To answer your question more directly - many pictures does not have to be sloppy or cluttered if it's well done. How to choose which ones? Eliminate the ones that aren't great! Keep the ones that really focus on your subject and any that have items that would be of historical interest later on. For example I have some pictures of my children by my father's old pickup truck. The truck is an eye sore but it has huge meaning in our family and so it stays in the pictures!

I have some layouts with 1 or two photos but I tend to do a lot of 2 pagers with LOTS of photos. :) Most of the time I use sketch from Becky Higgins, but sometimes I make up my own :)

I saw on online interview with someone from Simple Scrapbooks (I think it was), and she said she thought we'd see fewer 1 and 2 photo pages next year. That makes me think that the few pages may be sort of a trend this year.

I'm a newbie scrapper, though, so what do I know...?

I also like the Becky Higgins sketches. It saves quite a bit of time if you don't have to come up with your own original layout every time.

Happy Scrapping!
