Congratulations to everyone being published.
What is the Vol. No./Edition of this mag etc?
I'd like to try and get a copy of it here in Aus if that's at all possible (that'll be an interesting exercise in itself - not too many of our agents carry the same lines).
I'd love to see what you have all done

I bought it yesterday on base. (I am in UK, and have acces to an american base).
I was very exited to meet a lot of people from this board in it, but I do have some serious remarks.
The layouts are all gorgeous, or mostly gorgeous, there is one or two that I don't like, but that is not bad. the overall quality of the book is very good.
What bothers me is that the front cover hooks you with "how to do's" which I really counted on, and when you look inside, the do do is "apply this filter from this package"... DOH...
first of all I don't have the package, and I am not planning on getting it, second a filter is not a to do if you ask me.
I really hoped they would have explained the border from the cover, looks like curled paper, I thought, aha, I want to learn this... some other stuff too, but there is not too much in for advanced... If you are more or less advanced, it is hard to find how to do's.
If anyone knows how to do the border around the little girl on the cover, I really would like to know how to do that one...
It is a nice issue, lots of inspiration, but I really expect them to give more real "how to's".
Congrats to all the people who are in it. Nice job... It is nice to be published.

Do you know the saddest part about that? That cover isn't 100% computer generated! Just the background is. If you look on pg 88 it tells you how this "Great" page is made using both the computer and 3-D additons. Sad huh?

AAAHHHRRRR, now I am even more appauled... Cause I saw how they did the background, and this is not hard if you are used to photoshop... So what I wanted to learn is not only looking real paper but is real paper. I had a Homer moment I guess... Too much radiation.
I was planning on writing them my comment, now I certainly have to send them a comment. It can't be a problem for them to find layouts, we post all the time to scrap submit.... I mean, real CG, all the way...
Sigh, guess I won't know today then how to do a border like that. Well, I could do one in real paper and scan it in. But that is not the same...

yeah, it's a bummer to us. but we do need to remember there are millions of paper scrappers and thousands of digital scrappers. and they gotta sell magazines. the cover, yeah personally that's kinda offensive even. as if digital's not good enough for the cover. but that's not the point. the point is all that can be done with digital, which includes a mix of both. ah well, at least we're being included! the how to's always stink for anyone already digital scrapping, but again, it's not written for us. gotta think numbers. hopefully soon we'll have the numbers to warrant a "good" digital issue, then more and more!! :D

Well Margie, if they don't do it good, better not do it. Digital is winning, and fast. I mean coming up. (My dutch is sipping in).
Digital scrapping is definitely taking off. But on the other hand, today I got a mail from someone I thought who was a friend, and she told me that she did not comment on my layouts anymore because they were digital and she could not learn from them. She actually said "she could not take anything from them". So you just look at layouts if you can scrap lift?
I am drifting though. You are right, lots of people consider digital not really scrapping. I don't agree. The point is to keep the memories, how you do it should be of secundary importance.
Digital photography was laughed at four years ago... Now they are selling more digitals then film camera's. I predict that with laptops getting cheaper, and digital becoming easier and more available, it will take off just like paper scrapping took off.
The first one on the market with a good magazine will be the best.
Having said that, I did not think the magazine was bad, I just had expected more... and more tutorials. Is there nothing between digital photography who puts floating castles on water with a dragon on the top and a good tutorial just above intermediate level? It is for pro's or for semi's... not much for starters (how to set up a page) or in-between (I consider myself inbetween).
Today I signed on for a course on this site out of pure frustration with the magazine... the course might be to difficult for me, but hey, i will always pick up something.
I haven't seen this issue, but I have to agree about the lack of resources for anyone beyond "How to get started". LOL about the dragons and castles, I have to adapt a lot of those fantasy or high tech tutorials for scrapping use, it seems digital is all about web design right now.
So glad this site is committed to getting resources out there for all levels, educating the public and media, and a great place to show and learn!
Hopefully more magazines will pick up on digital, and just put us right beside paper in their regular issues! There is a lot of crossover with us recreating paper looks, and products coming out to mimic digital effects. And lots of people do both!

Not only that but from what I understand they completely misprepresented how layouts were created ( well for mine they certainly did) - despite several lengthy emails back and forward on how I acheived certain effects , they decided to write their own method for creating such effects which bore no resemblance to how I did it!!!

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm......... I bought this issue yesterday at Walmart.
I haven't read in depth, yet, but I found it to be enjoyable.
I must note, knowing that they called me to create a layout for this very reason, that they were also trying to show how paper scrappers can use digital techniques. You can see the layout I did for that purpose on page 79.
btw, did y'all see the DSP ad on the last page? :)

I did not like the information they gave about the digital photo storage & organization. Step #2 said decide what to keep...they said
"Storing bad photos either digital or conventional will only creat frustration when you sit down to scrapbook. Make deleting the bad photos a priority when you download them from your camera..."
To me I thought this was off base. I think the beauty of Digital scrapping is being able to use those "bad" pictures. What do y'all think.
They do go on to explain that software can "fix color, brightness" etc But if you ever want to make elements or backgrounds etc...those bad pictures of someones foot or the ceiling can actually work. I've found that I've had uses for pictures that could be "bad" worked perfect...and I'm glad now I did not delete them.
Any thoughts?

Well Amanda...no luck finding the magazine today. I went over there and they were out and the girl was not helpful at all and had no idea when they would get any in. Im going to try the scrapbook place by Lakeline mall.
Liz- I agree with what you are saying however I do kinda agree about deleting unuseable images. I have taken tons of pictures where they would not be fixable by any stretch of the imagination- like totally blurry because my hyper dog would not sit still! :) I will get rid of those so they wont take up HD space - since it is at a premium for me right now until DH gets my new computer built. But if I think that there might be someway to use the picture then I will definitely save it!

well as a bad picture keeper, who just cleaned off allllll my pics from my hard drive, i must say i now agree with them! i have plenty of pics, and don't really need the bad ones, so i deleted away! i don't have the room to waste. yes, i *can* use them for backgrounds or whatever, and certainly will if i think of it. but mostly i won't get to it, or just have so many good ones that i won't bother! plus i tend to take 10 of the same shots! not so necessary now that i'm a little better at not cutting heads off, etc!! :D so i'm digging the delete key right now! I know what you mean about that delete key. I went through all of my elements and got rid of the stuff that I knew I would absolutely never use for one reason or another- mainly because it just wasnt my style.
Ive organized all of my fonts and got rid of duplicates. I had so many that I have 3 and 4 downloads of the same font. Yikes!
