Lens Questions

I currently have a Nikon 28-200mm lens that are friend gave me. The lens doesn't focus correctly at either end so I am looking at getting a new lens. I also have a 24-85mm. I really like the 28-200 because I can pretty much just use the one lens. I've borrowed a friends 70-300 mm and like the 300mm. Is there anything close to a 28-300 so that I could still use one lens but get the longer focal length?

I did a quick google search and found quite a few different makes of lens that fit this length, Nikon make one as does Tamron, Sigma and Tokina, maybe someone with Nikon lenses will let you know what its like :)
