Ann, what a lot of people do if you want the best quality web cam is they hook up, if they have one, their cam corder to their computer and use it as a web cam.
you would need a compression program to make the videos small enough for the web. There are a number of free ones out there.
I haven't looked around lately, but this site www.snapfiles.com might have some. Or try http://www.majorgeeks.com/ there is lots of shareware and freeware on these sites. I have tried many programs from them and never had a problem.

another way to do it is buy a really cheap webcam, hook up your camcorder to the computer and use the software that came with the cheap webcam.

oh one more thing, I think you can hook up to yahoo messanger or others like it and use the built in web cam software through the instant messanger to talk to others..
