I was wondering how I transfer programs that have been downloaded to my new computer. I don't have the disks for them I am also upgrading my pse program and am going to download it instead of having them ship it to me. When i get my new computer how do i transfer my programs from my old one?

Hi, if you downloaded the programs from the internet you should have the zipfiles stored on your hard drive somewhere. Hopefully you didn't delete them after you installed the programs. All you need to do is find those zipfiles, burn them to a CD or DVD them just unzip and install them on your new pc. If you didn't save the zipfiles you might be out of luck. You can try going back to the sites where you bought or downloaded the programs from and see if they are still available for downloads. Worst case scenario if the programs are something you really really really want to keep, you can take your old and new pcs to someone and have them copy the hard drive from one to another. I don't know for sure but this last resort sounds expensive to me. HTH -c-

one of two things you can do:
1) if you are technically able to, take the hard drive out of your old computer and put it in the new one. if the old one is really old, then the new computer may not have the same hard drive connections (old hard drives are Parallel and the new ones are serial connection)

2) this is the best option....buy a 30 dollar hard drive enclosure, and take out the old hard drive and put it in the enclosure..... then you can copy the hard drive contents on to your new computer..... but one thing to remember, once you copy the programs to the new computer, they will need to go through the setup again, you will need the serial numbers, etc.
hard drive enclosures transferes data by either usb 2 or firewire, the better ones do both.

taking out old hard drives is easy, just tag the wires where they came from, and look at the connectors in the enclosure..... they are exactly the same.

if you need any help let us know....

Hi Kompressor, I've got a friend who is trying to convince me I need a new hard drive and makes everything sound just as easy as you just did. I don't know though, just thinking about openning up my laptop makes me QUEEZY! ;-) -c-
