Okay a lot of people are wanting tutorials. Here is what we are going to do. If there is something you are wanting to learn how to do post it here. Make sure you mention what program you are using. If there is already a tutorial on dsp somewhere please post the link here for the person. If not we will see about doing it during chat!

I really need help with blending. I've done different tutorials and still can't seem to get it, so if someone is great at it I'd like to hear her tricks and technique. I'm open with someone just pming me her tips.
I also like to know how to tie my own knot. I didn't find a tutorial for this using any program. I admit I glanced pretty quick so there may be one.
I use PSP X for the most part, however I'm familar with Adobe products from my former life as a graphics/layout person.

I use PSE4, and I still don't get blending, either. I'm in the same boat as mommabyrd. Or layer masks, if that's the same thing. When I paint the layer mask (or PSE 4's equivalent), I see on my layers pallette where it is apinting but not my LO.

I have just recently done a tutorial for masks in both ps and psp...they are very basic but enough to give the idea on how they work...to get the faded edges just use a softer brush. The tutorial can be found on the SNL website.

I want to learn to "tie" a ribbon into a knot... this is the only drawback to digital scrapping in my opinion. I'll have a kit with a gorgeous ribbon and want to use it to attach a tag or other element to the page and not be able to because, although the kit contains a ribbon, it didn't come with a premade knot or bow, etc. With paper scrapping I could use the ribbons however I wanted. (Idea for designers... if you include a ribbon, include a knotted or tied piece too).
I just downloaded Suzanne's AWESOME Freebie of brushes and realized I don't even know how to load them and use them as brushes. I would just use them like wordart and recolor and paste.
So maybe that could be a tutorial, or it may not even require a tutorial, and I could be the only one out there that doesn't know how to use them.
PSE 4.0 at my house.
Thanks Amber

No Doda, you are not alone. I too struggle with adding brushes and using them properly. I can use them as png files, but haven't figured out how to recolor, etc. I use PSE 2.0. I have PSP 9, but can't use it very well... But that's a WHOLE other story, lol.

Okay to load the brushes into your PSE. Sorry it took me a while to reply to this!! Go to My computer --> Local Disc C (or whatever drive your program files are on) --> Program Files --> Adobe --> Photoshop Elements --> Presets --> Brushes. Simply drag that ABR file into this folder and they should be in your brushes in Elements. IF elements was open while you did this you may have to restart it before the brushes are there. IF they aren't where you scroll down go to the little arrow on that menu and click on load brushes and the brushes should be there! Let me know if you have anymore questions!!

Lace and Knots - I have not made lace yet, but I was told that Lisa teaches Lace in her paths class and Lauren teaches it in her DSU 312 class. I know knots are taught in Emmas 361 PSE class and Laurens 311 PS class.

I've seen a few. I have one photo that I filtered thru Virtual Painter software to get an oil painting effect. I don't use PSPX tho.

Yes I do this a lot using mainly PSP9.

for 3 examples. The easiest way to start is to load your image, then do a duplicate layer. With the second layer, go to "effects- edge effects- find all" You then get an outline in black and white. After this, play with adding layers and altering the opacity and rubbing out some areas. You can get quite realistic pencil or watercolours this way- there are lots of other effects you can experiment with too- blur etc. I did one with more of an oil effect using "effects, soft plastic", but there are also "effects,- artistic effects" too that you could try. Have a try- it's lots of fun:)

Thanks Greenfingers for your response. - I loved the way you have experimented with the layers and effects. I have seen some really neat things done where the picture actually looks like an oil painting. I am in no way ready for that yet but it's fun finding new ways to do things plus I always like to challenge myself. I will have to try my own experimenting with some of my photos!

I vote for tying knots too and I would love to know how to make ribbon curl. I know that there is that page curl program or whatever, (it is on my "need it" list), but I would also like to know how to do do it myself.

Is there a way to do the page curl without another program? I use PS

Knots - YES, PLEASE!!! In ribbons and twine or cord or yarn or rope or fabric or....
So far, the best I've been able to do isn't that great. I tied a ribbon into a bow and tried to copy it by drawing and warping in PS. Not great at all. So, any help would be wonderful.
There is also a tut on making a folded ribbon with a staple for attaching to tags.

Lisa does teach lace in paths class. To me, the hardest part of lace isn't the pattern repeat so much as getting the texture to look right. Any help with that would also be appreciated.
Info on creating lace using dingbat fonts can be found here:
http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19582&highlight=making+lace
I haven't googled "making lace" but there might be other sites with that sort of info.
BTW, I use PS, but I find the PSP tuts helpful too - the terminology may differ, and the settings for drop shadows and such are slightly different, but the gist of info still can be applied, especially when there is a screen shot to show you what a particular setting or effect might look like. And if that doesn't work for you, there are so many helpful people here who can probably explain how to do something if it doesn't make sense in a given tut.
