DSL is not available in our area yet, so I am stuck with dial up.

It seems that every time I am downloading something, I get bumped off the
internet and I have to start the down load over again. And, this can happen
4 or 5 times.

Someone shared in the forum about a free program that would hold the file that was being
downloading and if you got bumped off the internet, you could just start were it was stopped.

I have changed computers and lost that program. Can anyone tell me what it is and where to get it?

I will be very grateful as this is soooooo frustrating.

Thanks so much!

Joan

I don't know if this is the same one you had. Try Google and there will be more choices. I had a download manager years ago and it worked well.

I use the free version of DAP - Download Accelerator Plus. The webpage is http://www.speedbit.com/ or the direct link to the free .exe is http://redir.speedbit.com/redir.asp?ID=7019&filename=dap81.exe

oh and it is about 7 meg so it will take at least a half hour to DL with dial-up. Hopefully you at least have a 56K connection.

Even easier, use Firefox as your browser and you will have the ability to re-start stalled or interrupted downloads right in your browser :D

I also recommend Firefox - it is also faster than IE (well I think it is) and that makes a big difference to you when you are on dial up :)

I agree, Firefox should make a big difference. The other ones mentioned sound good, too. I think I'll check them out. :)
When I was on dialup I also used stardownloader available through stardownloader.com and it worked very well, until I downloaded Norton 2006. For some reason Norton had some issues with it and it wouldn't work properly and I just gave up.
