Other than a few Christmas cards, below are links to my very first completed digital scrapbook layout.

My problem is the resolution of the photos. Even before making the pages web-ready, the resolution of the photos is not great. I have not had this problem with the Christmas cards and can't figure out what is wrong.

I have a fabulous digital camera that takes great quality photos, but for some reason the photos on this layout look all funky when printed out. I wonder if the problem is in the "shrinking" for the layout -- the photos are quite large to begin with and I just manually resized them for the layout (by dragging them to the size I wanted).

Am I doing something wrong? Any tips you can give would be much appreciated. Thanks!!

What program are you using to create your pages? What is the original resolution and size of the photos? What size is your page and what resolution are you creating your page?

I'm using Photoshop Elements 5.0. The original resolution of the photos is 300 ppi and the size is approximately 10x8. Each side of the layout is 8.5x11 and it looks like the resolution is only 72 ppi. Could this be my problem?

What resolution works for you in scrapbook layouts?

Thanks for your help!!

Your resolution should look OK on screen at 72 not blurry like that but for printing you want 200-300, it will not print well at 72. You say you are shrinking the photos not expanding them to fit the page which indicates they are saved at a better resolution so that should not reduce the quality below 72. This is really strange, sorry I can't really help, hopefully someone else here will be able to.

Yes - you need your resolution for your layout to be 200-300. As Toni said, 72 is OK for the screen but not for printing. Have a look at the tutorial here - it should explain everything (hopefully):
