Ok guys- we are having a terrible time trying to decide on a name for this baby. I've attached a poll- would you mind terribly letting me know what you think of our name choices?

Our other boys are Colin Matthew and Drew Alexander so I want something that will "fit" in with those names. As far as Jake and Luke- we dont have a middle name picked out for those so if you would like to offer middle name suggestions- please do so. Keep in mind that our last name is Kazmir!

ETA: oops--- I meant the middle name for Ryan would be Michael and not Matthew.

I like Ryan Matthew. Ryan will probably be my next little boy's (if I get one that is) middle name. I like that fact that Matthew was Colin's middle name, so his little brother will get to have a little piece. Good luck with the decision!! We'll be in the same boat if we ever have a girl...we don't have girls names picked out at all! :)

I'm another with a vote in for Ryan Matthew. I think it's a super name!

I like Ryan Matthew also but almost picked Luke because I like how it sound with your last name... Good Luck... We picked our sons name when they came and asked for it at the hospital when he was two days old... my husband picked the first and I picked the second... very interesting... so I understand the indecision... too bad I wasn't doing dsp at the time.. :)

Wow!! We get to participate in all sorts of crazy things at DSP! :) What fun! I have to join the gang in voting for Ryan (and I actually like Ryan Matthew better than Ryan Michael). William seems a little more old fashioned and doesn't seem to fit as well with Colin and Drew. My 2nd choice would be Luke...but I have no ideas for a middle name.

Count me in for Ryan Matthew-sounds wonderful together and goes with the other names. Plus it's not one of the those too popular names-I haven't taken care of Ryan in our NICU in a while-thanks for letting us be a part of the fun of naming your little guy!!!

I vote for William (Will) Davis!

I like Jacob .... with Ryan as the middle name ...

Jacob Ryan ... I have had to say that plenty of times over the past 21 years as that's our son's name ... when he was a little tot and heard BOTH names he KNEW he was in trouble! LOL!!!

Tina

Ok Amber, Ryan and Jacob are over used (sorry to moms of ryans and jacobs!)

I like Will A LOT- but JUST Will, not William. I also like Luke a lot!

Other current favs of mine: Noah, Eli, and Charlie.

I like all your options Amber. Boys are so hard to name I know! We had 4 possible names for Callum in the delivery room (Alexander, Callum, Nathaniel (Nathan) and Devin (that was a left field choice!)). I would have loved Blake as a choice - but my husband's cousin had already snagged that name for his son!
Here is a link to the top 30 names here in NZ last year - hope it helps :)

I like William (Will) but not as a first name, sometimes that name gets over used. My youngest is Bradford William. Out of the poll suggestions, I really like Ryan. Although Jacob William sounds good also.

That's so funny to hear, everyone is saying they dont know many Ryans, but I know tons of them. I dont know any Wills. I know older men named William that go by BILL, but no Wills.

I love just Will.

Blair Michael, Jared Luke (or Luke Jared), Braden Roy, Jacob Blair. (Trying out two with one syllable names to go with Kazmir). Thanks for allowing us to think about it.

Although I really like the names Jake and Luke, when you say either name with your last name, the two K sounds merge into one so that it sounds like Jay Kazmir or Loo Kazmir.

If you went with William, that sounds sooooo good with your last name: William Kazmir, but with just Will it sounds like Willkazmir. With a hard sound at the beginning of your last name, you might want to consider something (Ryan!!) with a softer sound at the end of the first name.

My husband and I had a long long long discussion about our son's name. We had picked out Addison Prescott. It sounds so very lawyer-ish. But Addison by itself wasn't very strong sounding. I know that it's now a more popular name, but 18 years ago it wasn't. Addison means "Adam's son". I love the name Adam. It's easy to pronounce - no one ever makes a mistake on it, although some kids did call him A-dumb! We went with the Prescott for his middle name. When we found out that we were going to adopt twins, it was back to the baby books for another boy name. I really liked Andrew, but my nephew had just named his son (two months earlier) Andrew. So we chose Alexander. His middle name is Preston. Both boys have very masculine names that are impossible to make a mistake on. Having had a very unusual first name, I wanted my sons to have it easy throughout their lives.

So there you go! Hope this helps!

I like Ryan Michael (or Ryan Matthew).... Ryan is one of my favorite names and Matthew means "God's gift"... a great name for a baby (speaking as the mom of a Matthew, myself!!) :)

I like Jacob, Luke and Ethan (just to throw in something different!). My sister had Emily picked out for her daughter and when she was born she was Emily for a week then my sister said she is too big to be a little dainty Emily so she renamed her Rachel! She got all these cards with Emily on it!!

I put in my vote! I really like William. My grandpa's name is William and if I ever get lucky enough to be married and have a dear son I would name him William. I also love Will for short. William Davis Kasmir has a very nice ring to it! Good luck on your decision!!!!

I like names that aren't weird but aren't popular either. Luke is on my list right now. William is popular (and Will too) but would you consider Liam? I think its a lot like Drew where its not the whole name like you would originally think. :)

Not a big fan of Ryan..sorry!

I also love names that are not wierd but aren't common - as a teacher there were so many names!! I loved the name Lucian with the nickname of Luke! I also liked Xavier, Aidan (which is becoming really popular both male and female). I also love the name Ryan but know several (both male and female). I like the name Ryland with the nickname of Ry or Ryan. Anyways, whatever you pick it will be perfect!

Oh man Ann- when you said Matthew means "God's gift" that made me start crying. Matthew is Colin's middle name and he truly was our gift from God even though we didnt get to keep him.

My problem is not with "ME" liking names- its Peter. He is being such a butthead about names and he only wants, IMO, boring names. The 4 names that I posted here were what I could live with but I just dont love any of them. I know my mom is wanting me to pick a name for the baby but this is alot harder this time around and it may be a game time decision after the baby is born. Which really stinks because I wanted to do some cute monogram burp cloths and stuff for him. Sigh.

Well I'll give you my idea for my next little boy's name. I'm not sure if I'll get to use it or not, because Chris isn't fond of it...although he did become a little more interested when one of Joey's nurses (yep, we get together with them from time to time) thought it was a GREAT name for Joey's little brother. Its Seth Ryan. Seth is one of those that you won't 3 in every classroom, but its not so "out there" either. Seth is Hebrew, meaning "Set, Appointed".

LOL - we all have such differing opinions! :) At least no one has said, "Oh no, I knew the ickiest _____________ in school. You can't name him that!" That is what we would always go through when trying to name my brothers!

And husbands - they seem to frequently be the pain! One of my friends had kids and her husband liked the weirdest names. It got to the point where we's throw out silly names just for laughs but we couldn't laugh at his suggestions because he might be serious! He usually was.

I've posted some layouts on DSP of this couples' kids and have "renamed" them using his choices that were nixed by my friend. I figure they can be his kids' names at DSP, if not in the real world! :)

We gave all our names the "playground" test - we wanted to at least eliminate the totally obvious embarrassing nicknames. I briefly thought Randall might be nice - but "Randy" is not a good nickname to have here (I know it is a common name in the US - but here it means the same as "horny"!).

Tina
12-30-2006, 03:39 PM

Surprisingly- the kids have NOT called Tate tatertot yet!

LOLOLOL, I've got a friend named Randy. And sometimes he is "horny" lol, that gave me a good laugh. Tina have you ever seen the comic from "The Blue Collar" tour. He had an alias name, Tater Salad and his sons name is Tatertot. It's a funny story.
Sorry Amber I digress. How about Colt? After your Texas Longhorn Quarterback. I'm watching the game right now and I'm thinking of you. :)

No- I could never do Colt simply because of the QB at Texas. I do like Cole though but Peter says its too close to Colin. UGH! This is so stinkin hard!

Naming the baby is SO hard! You'd have thought when we had twins we'd have had lots of room to figure it out, but, no, we fought it out to the bitter and and those poor girls still have three names APIECE! LOL! For a boy, I don't know, looks like you have a few down. I have always been a bit on the nonconformist side so I named my son Kameron Knight. For the girls we went went family name-afters and the meaning behind the names. Just don't name it Carl Eugene. I was going to be that if I would have been a boy. ugh. I also toyed with Ian Kameron and Carl Lucien, after my grandfather and great uncle . Good Luck!!!

Here is my new list that I gave Peter and of course, he doesnt like any of them.

Aidan
Cole

Grant
Preston
Reid
Scott
Will

Me again Amber! Does Peter say why he doesnt like them? Maybe he is a bit superstitious or worried about giving the baby a name yet because you lost dear little Colin. Could be he is a bit afraid to make a decision yet. Kazmir is a lovely surname, you could go with something really distinguished and elegant with it. Like Prince Kazmir! (It was good enough for Michael Jackson twice!)

shazzt
01-02-2007, 12:25 AM
Amber - maybe the answer is to come up with a shortlist of names that neither of you absolutely hate and see what you think once your boy makes his appearance. You WILL find a good name - maybe you just need to see him to know that it is the right one. Not good for making pre-birth goodies I know ...

bobbygrrl
01-02-2007, 04:14 AM
based on your surname I thought these names sat well:

Aiden - (just noticed its on your list too!) Wow no. 1, I thought it was quite unusual!
Lucas
Zachary (Zac)
Connor

I think an awful name for a fat girl is Abigail A big gal :(

Amber
01-02-2007, 01:06 PM
Oh goodness Vallie- dont think I could curse this baby with a name of Prince- he would forever be made fun of because of Michael Jackson.

Peter doesnt say why he doesnt like my names- he is just difficult. I think more and more that its looking like we will name him Ryan but Im still not making a final decision yet. Drew and Ryan sound good together and since this is the only name we both can agree on (even though I dont love it) maybe when he is born the name will just "fit" him. Just like Drew- I cant imagine him being any other name than Drew!

Well, after much pondering its looking like the name will be Ryan Michael. Although, Im not going out and buying any personalized baby stuff yet- I reserve the right to change my mind!

But the more I think about it- Drew and Ryan sound good together and Ryan Kazmir sounds pretty good too!

How about Luke Thomas?
Luke is not that common and was a good man. My last name is Foster so we tried to get creative first names with our 3 kids. It seems that would not be a problem with your last name! on our second son we waited to see what he looked like and we did not name him until 30 minutes before I had to leave the hospital!.

I think the problem with Luke is going to be actually saying Luke Kazmir. Somebody posted earlier that if you say it together it will actually wind up sounding like Loo Kazmir just because of the way it flows! :( Which is sad because I really like Luke.

I too voted for Ryan before reading all the posts. It goes well with your last name and with Drew (another name I love).

How we picked our daughter's name...I wrote a list of the names I liked (about 5-6), and let DH pick the one that he liked best. Ha! Make the choices limited for him. Of course they all started with an A (to keep with tradition).

Ryan sounds good with your last name. But you do have the right to wait until you see him hemight not be a ryan.

We went into the delivery both times with a short list of names then just chose what fit best. Now we did have a name game we played because of our last name, Eng. We couldn't pick any names, or names with nicknames that sounded like verbs and if one or the other of us could make fun of the name it was out. We ended up with Alexander and Quinton.

Well my son's middle name is William so I am partial to that one. lol I had to be VERY careful naming him because of our last name. I am a Head! So I had to throw away a lot of names I really liked. Like Hunter for instance, loe the name Hunter but then on forms and whatnot where the last name comes first, he would have been Head Hunter. lol See what I mean? Best wishes to you.

I like the name Riley too, for boy or girl (if we had a girl we were going to name her that)

GOOD LUCK :)

My favorite boy's name is Keith! Keith Kazmir, Ryan Keith Kazmir, Keith Matthew Kazmir....hmmmm.... Lucas Keith Kazmir (Luke).....

I like Ryan Matthew better than Ryan Michael, too, and a tribute seems nice, but I know how close you still are to Colin in your heart and might want to keep his name only for him.

I soooo agree on this one! My first pick was Luke, but then I said the names out loud and it just doesn't sound right.
I have no idea which names are "in" or "out" in the US, but I always loved the name Daniel.
Out of the list I like Ryan best and my eldest brother is named Michael, so that's a good one too

02-24-2007, 03:19 AM
Aww wouldn't it be so much easier to name the kids if we didn't have to consult with our dh's! LOL! Ryan is a very cute name. DH and I are already starting this debate as well. I will tell you for Logan's middle name I totally won and got a name that dh really really doesn't like at all. It's Logan Blake. I loved it and dh hated it so I told him to come up with another one. Finally by the time the baby was born he couldn't come up with anything else so told me to use Blake! Not the ideal situation - but I still won! We're already debating on this one - boy names of course - I want Landon and he wants Treyton.
