Does anyone know the approximate life span of a printer? I've got a 4 year old Epson that for some reason has stopped printing. It's tries, but no ink comes out, almost as though it's low on ink despite having new cartridges. I've went through the Epson troubleshooter and after entering all of my problems, actions, etc., the best they recommend is to call Epson directly. That makes me think that it might be an unfixable glitch. Is 4 years a normal lifespan, or do you think I can squeeze a few more years out of it? If not...what's a good printer for us scrapbookers? I'd like something reasonably priced with good photo quality.

It could be that you need new ink heads and I think that it would be cheaper to replace the whole printer - They have cone down considerably in price in the last 4 years so thats a bonus - Epson have some great photo printers available - I personally have a Canon ip3000 nearing its 2nd birthday which I love - nothing super flash but it prints beautifully still

I have had a few printers that just dropped dead on me! I have only had cheapish ones (but good brands) so it has been easier to replace them than try to get them fixed.

I have 3 HP printers, a 7750 photsmart which is now 5 years old and still prints beautifull, a HP 1300 series all in one, 2 years old and does good quality print if I remember all of the settings, and a HP 8750 photosmart wide format printer, one and a half years old which does a supurb job on all sizes of photos going from 4 by 6 to 12 by 18. My only experience with Epson printers was I bought one about 10 years ago and it lasted about 4 years and had the same problem you described. I then switched to HP, and have not had any trouble with them.
It is probably cheaper to replace, than repair at this point in time. There are many reasonably priced printers available which will print good quality digi photos and LO's. Good luck with your choice.

It's ironic that you mention your HP lifespan. My hubby has an HP inkjet - nothing fancy, and I wouldn't try photos on it - but it's still going on it's 9th year. I love the quality of Epson photos and the fact that Epson is trying to become so scrapper friendly...maybe it's time to cross over to HP...

Thanks!

I've had at least three drop on me in four years. I use HP printers, but I don't usually buy the higher quality ones, either, cause I got three kiddos who think they are desktop publishers or something......

I've always had excellent results with HP printers. The last HP photo printer I bought was 5-1/2 yrs. ago. My MIL still uses it.

When the Canon i9900 was first released, I got that as a Christmas gift. It is absolutely wonderful & Canon completely won me over.
