I just bought the Graphire Wacom tablet today and am wondering if I should have bought the Intuos. My question is what is better for what we do?

I have the Wacom and love it! Haven't tried the Intuos though, but tons of people couldn't live without their Wacom. Have fun with it!

I have a graphire 4 and love it. It is perfect for scrapping.

I have a Graphire 3 4x5 tablet. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. It has been a dream come true.

I have drawn and painted with a mouse (for a decade) and I won't go back. I don't do everything with my tablet, but I use it a lot. I also feel very uncomfortable when I cannot find my stylus(pen), so I would suggest that you keep the pen in it's little slot at all times so you don't lose it like I always seem to do, especially during a project with a short deadline.

My other suggestion is to get the 6x8 rather than the 4x5. It takes up as much space on the desk, but gives you more space to play. (if your budget allows) Although I am doing fine with the smaller size, and I didn't have the money to go any larger, I would probably be more comfortable with the increased drawing area. But, you should try to test drive one first just to see if you need or want a larger drawing area. That would be my other suggestion - test it in person, see how the stylus feels in your hand, and see if you prefer one size, model, etc over another.

Re Intuos vs. Graphire - IIRC, the main advantage for Intuos models is tilt input as well as vertical pen pressure, plus more sensitivity levels. But there may be newer features that I'm unaware of as I have had my tablet for a long time and haven't looked at them in more than a year.

Good luck, let us know what you get, and show us your art when you get it!!!!

Oh I want one!!! Maybe even more than PSCS3. I dunno, they are both at the top of the list. After the septic tank and the roof...........

Ok, I gave in and returned my graphire and bought the Intuos. I cannot believe how much software comes with them!

Once I get up and running, I will definitely post some of my "creations". I would also love to see what you have created!

If anyone would like to share tips, websites, etc I would really appreciate it.

Well, I just figured out we have enough bonuses from our credit card to get my a gift card big enough for the Intuos!! I'm SOOO excited. Now, just being patient until the gift cards get here AND the out-of-stock Intuos at Best Buy gets back in stock!!

I'd love to hear more about them! I've never used one but am thinking it's going to be a big learning process that I'm going to LOVE!!

Which one are you buying? I bought the 4x6 size - should I have bought a larger one?

You know, I have NO idea - - I bought the 4x6 because I have a VERY small desk area and just don't have the room for even that size!!

I've heard (and read) it's more about your stroke size. I can draw smaller so I think I'll be ok. We should start a new to wacom thread and get people to share their tips with us! I know I'm going to need them.

For the difference, from what I read it's pressure sensitivity. The Intuos has more spots . . . for 90% of what we do, I'll be it won't make a difference. I've been working on some brush work in Photoshop and wanted more (plus our gift card covers the Intuos so I figured what the heck! LOL)

Off to search if there's a thread already started on wacom and if not, to start one!

I just bought the Graphire Wacom tablet today and am wondering if I should have bought the Intuos. My question is what is better for what we do?

It depends on your needs. I spent the extra money on the Intuos 2 a couple of years ago as at the time it had a lifetime warrenty (not sure how long it is now, but I don't think it is lifetime anymore). It does have more features then the grapire, and a more professional feel and seems to be better made overall.
If you already have the software that comes with the intros, and you don't think you need all the bells and whistles, then I would say get the bigger graphire for the same money. If you want the software included, then when you bundle all the software and the tablet together, it comes out to be a better price then the grapire. but first go to a place that sells both and take a good look at one physically.

hope this helps

PS once you learn how to use one, you will wonder how you lived without one!!

I have the Intuos and my husband has the graphire. I think the better sensitivity, better pen and more professinal feel of the Intuos is worth the money. I just purchased a new Intuos (recycling my old Intuos to my husband) and bought a smaller one than my old one. I found too large a tablet makes me reach too far and isn't comfortable. Love my new 4x6 size (note get this new size rather than the old 4x5.
