I'm signed up to be there but don't know how this kind of crop works. Shall I bring my laptop? Re the card, is there a theme or can we just make any kind of card we want? I assume that we bring it printed out, but do we also post it somewhere? Obviously I'm clueless on this but very excited about being there!!!

Yep, you should bring your laptop and a power strip!

laptop, extension cord, chocolate, albums of your pages to ooh and ahh over if you'd like, chocolate, an external hard drive or cds if you don't have all your pics and kits on your laptop, chocolate, your artist trading cards!, and maybe some chocolate. :D no theme, just a card about YOU. no family, no kids, no friends, just you. we might get a gallery up for these, we'll post if so!

Anyone who's been to any sort of crop knows that actually scrapping is only a small part of the entire event. :)
If you don't have a laptop - bring an album. (And chocolate...)
And bring your camera! You'll be very popular afterwards when everyone who was scrapping realizes they don't have any photos!!!
I'm going to figure out how to pack some of the craft projects (window bags filled with chocolate, fry boxes filled with chocolate, candy wrapper wrapped around veggies<g>) and would love to see what others have done with them. Photos are great, but actually seeing them in person is entirely different!

I am getting so excited--what size should our ATC cards be printed?
Do you think we should have a standard size ??- Im new at this - what size would standard be???
Lauren
01-03-2007, 12:10 AM
OK lets make your ATC's 2.5 inches x 3.5 inches - - that way we will all have the same size and can save them in the little folders that you can buy - or you could make a little box for them even - if I get time I might work up a template for a box - dont hold me to it though - Im overloaded with work to do before I get there

Tim Tams???- I can bring them ( aussie biscuit- you would call it a cookie) - or even the NZ equivalent which are called Chit Chats - same thing - different company makes them - They even come in "ball" form now - as well as heaps of different flavoured fillings . We also have - Jaffas - these are chocolate filled balls coated with orange candy, - Very yummy esp the giant variety - Pineapple lumps - these are square little flat pineapple chewy candy coated in chocolate , and crunchie bars which are like peanut brittle without the peanuts ( we call this stuff hokey pokey) - and coated in quite thick chocolate

Okay - maybe you only ever saw the opened box (I don't think it stayed sealed very long) and so you didn't realize *what* you were eating.

I will be there.. with chocolate! I can't wait to meet everyone!!
As for See's - I love any of their chocolate filled with fruity stuff (raspberry, lemon, etc.) and of course anything with caramel!
Disneyland on Sunday?! Woo hoo!!! It will be a pretty good time to go too - since January is usually the least busy time at the park ('cause most people just went during the holiday break). In fact, I'll probably be going next weekend to really take advantage of it!
And cropping...ha ha...will I even bring my laptop? I NEVER got anything done at paper crops and I can't imagine a digital crop will be any different. I'm a lone scrapper...can't focus when others are around! :) So I'll just dance around the tables and take pics of you all! Maybe even sing a song of joy or two. HA HA!!!

Bring it all Mama    and just think, the extra luggage you will need to bring it can be used to take home all your So Cal tourist goodies... It's a win win sitiuation, but from the sound of that list, you will need a bus to transport it all:D and we will all be the size of a bus if we eat it all:D... This is all sounding way too fun :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:.

For those who are as clueless as I am about ATCs......
This site gives instructions for printing multiple cards: Artist Trading Cards (http://www.ruthannzaroff.com/mirkwooddesigns/atc.htm). And I got that link from Ann Maree's Thread (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6876).

Oh let me make you a template - give me 10 minutes and i will have one done for you
Lauren
01-04-2007, 11:26 PM
Ok
you can download a template to make 9 to a letter sized page ( If your printer needs wide margins you wont get 9 on the page though - so you will need to delete one row so do a test print first )

Thanks Omi for the ATC links and thank you Lauren for the template. Now I have another DATC question. I read that this is a 2 sided thing. The art on one side and a message or info on the other. Has anyone actually done this and printed them out? What kind of paper did you use? My photo paper all has print on the back side. I have found a 2 sided photo paper but it's not very heavy. When I think card I think thicker. I ran into the same problem with calendar making... Has anyone found a good, heavy, 2 sided, photo quality paper?
Lauren

I have done mine - but i did them on 2 pages - then stuck them together and laminated that way - thats because my photo paper isnt coated on both sides

How many people are expected to attend - are we all in one giganto room or several smaller rooms? I have never been to anything like this before but I have really been enjoying myself on this site and at DSU classes. I already have so many kits from some of you and I am taking your class next month Lauren. I live about an hour away in San Diego....but if it is really huge, like thousands of people... that is a little intimidating. Can we come if we don't have ATC's?
Meryl
01-16-2007, 01:15 AM
Don't be intimidated, I don't know how many there will be but am quite, quite sure it won't run to thousands LOL! And yes, of coure you can come without ATC, but why not consider making one? they are such fun once you get started - take a look at this gallery (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=1190) for inspiration :)

I was just organising my clothes to bring - Im spending 3 days in SanDiego before I come up to LA - will I need a sweater??- I do have a jacket and long sleeved tops packed and pants - I understand its been chilly there lately - is that supposed to end before Sunday when I arrive?- Should I put in one or 2 sweaters????? -

Lauren - I was in San Diego this past weekend and it was 30 degrees F!!! Umm...that is below freezing. It was really cold...but then again, I've turned into a Southern California cold wimp - - we can't handle much!!! :)

01-16-2007, 08:56 AM
Yes it has been really record breaking cold. Ok in the day but at night I actuaally am tunring my heat on. I moved here 3 years ago from Cicago (go Bears!!!) so 30 degree weather shouldn't phse me but a I am now w total weather wimp.
Bring couple sweaters adn a jacket - even in normal times it gets cool at night. Probably not sandle and shorts weather, but who knows, maybe we will get a good Santa Anna blowing (a wind from the inland desert).
Enjoy San Diego - I would love to see you design a San Diego themed or inspired kit!

Glad to hear some of you gals from far away places are taking time to visit other parts of So Cal. San Diego is such a beautiful city, but you will need to bundle up at some point in your day or visit. Remember it's a coastal community so it can feel a bit colder than it's projected temps. Sure hope it warms up before the crop as it has been way too COLD!!!!!!!!! Frozen pipes and such here in the high desert. Even got a few inches of snow on Friday. But that is the beauty of So Cal.... You can be freezing one day and warm as toast the next! Keeps us from taking our weather for granted.. LOL

My hubby and DD are going to drop me off and head over to California Adventures so I will be kind of stuck until they return or I call them to come and get me..Or should I throw in a little extra chocolate for lunch as well???

kim, we'll be sure someone's always in the room so no one has to worry about their stuff. of course most of us will only have a laptop bag full to worry about!! so convenient! :)

Wow this is all sounding so close and exciting now! :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:
Must say I am finding clothes a tad tricky (remember i am a girl from the sub tropics and right now in the midst of very, very hot, humid summer....!) and after California, I am off to Connecticut for a few days, and then to Ireland for a week - so very varied! And being soon after Christmas, its also a case of what fits?
I finally managed to work out exactly how long this journey is - 31 hours from when I leave Durban International to LA - not ALL in the air, of course the inevitable hanging around airports too - just hold thumbs that I don't get lost / get on a wrong plane / miss a plane :) :) :)

Can't help with Connecticut or Ireland, but the trick in California is LAYERS!!! Try to wear things that can be taken off or put on easily because the temperature can vary quite a lot from day to night; sunshine to overcast; no fog to fog; etc.
For example, for a warm day to a cold night, you might wear a tank top under a blouse under a sweater/shirtshirt under a light jacket. That combination has always gotten me through any range of temperatures in California. And it won't seem as cold to those of you from cold climates -- our family didn't even unpack coats for the first two winters we lived in Northern California. Then we turned into weather wimps like everyone else. ;-}
Other Californians, does that advice sound right to you?
elizabethlmccoy
01-16-2007, 01:10 PM
LOL...that's the same way i have to dress in my office LOL.....my bosses like to keep it cold....especially in the winter
Lauren
01-16-2007, 03:29 PM
Ok so now I will go and sort through my sweaters and drag them out of my winter clothes suitcase - ( Its summer here although hasnt been entirely summery this season - very poor showing the sun has made!!- in fact when I saw the high temps a few weeks back in CA I thought - yeahoo I might get better weather over there in your winter than in my summer - but sadly it looks like ive jinxed it for you!!!!- - It doesnt get below freezing anytime here in Auckland - although it can surely feel that way at times!!!- we are very coastal ( on an isthmus ) and I live about 100 yards from the sea so I understand coastal weather ony too well - layers layers seem to be the way to go - Heck - if I get too cold or too hot thats always an excuse to shop huh!!!!!!!!!!!!

01-16-2007, 04:31 PM
hi there!. I just stepped outside to check out the weather and it is beautiful, clear, sunny and about 70. January is usually 68-70 in the day and 40s in the nites. I live in Fullerton which is about 15 minutes form the Park (what us locals call Disneyland). We also don't talk in miles in southern california as time on freeways and roads is what really matters more than distance. Anaheim is far enough inland that we dont get the coastal fog so Lauren will get a break and Meryl, your flight time is exhausting! I am looking forward to a great time. My DH thinks I am so addicted and he is right!
Lauren
01-16-2007, 04:35 PM
Oh so all these stories people are telling me about it being below freezing I can just ignore???- and throw out at least one of the sweaters Im packing????- lol - Its actually approx 62 here right now - and its SUPPOSED to be summer!!!!

I have never been to an event like this before. It sounds fun, but what can I expect? Is there a program or outline or speaker schedule that is available?
Lauren
01-16-2007, 11:53 PM
Usually a crop is pretty casual - more of a get together where you can have fun and scrap together - chat - etc - Im more than happy to do some casual teaching too .
I ran a crop here in Auckland some time ago and had a schedule all drawn up but really found that people just wanted to chat with like minded people more than anything - so left it like that - Im sure there will be some fun activities going on as well that are more planned but nothing that will stop us all from laughter and fun
Amanda
01-16-2007, 11:53 PM
Expect a lot of fun! We'll scrap and scrap and eat chocolate and scrap and maybe play some games and chat and scrap :)
Margie
01-16-2007, 11:55 PM
no, this is just a crop. casual and fun! lots of scrapbooking, chocolate, socializing, chocolate, etc. there will be some fun and prizes, surprise visits, you can walk around and ask questions (or answer them). it's not a formal convention or class, just a fun gathering of fellow croppers. there won't be paper and scissors flying though, like paper crops, just mice flying! :D

A few inspiration books (to share)
My new COLOR book that rocks the house

You ask, how are you going to carry all of this??? In my adorable Green Mimi bag, of course!!!!
I have made several lists of what I need so that I don't forget anything like
::ahem:: my CAMERA!!!!

OK - I'm convinced, I am going. I also have an idea for an ATC so will try that as well - just one question on those - so we print 2 sides and then laminate? Or are they supposed to be unlaminated? If the latter are their guidlines abour mat or glossy?
SSS
Samara
01-17-2007, 09:05 AM
You can print just single sided too! That's probably what I'm going to do. Let it be known that I, Samara Gugler, am the ONE that is doing her ATC's single sided!!! LOL

I am very excited. I, too, haven't done anything like this before, but I live close by, so how could I resist. Plus I have a Disney Pass so I will NATURALLY be at Disneyland the next day. My daughter dances in the parade. Check her out at www.silers-alley.com/kds. Note that the web pages are YES DIGITAL SCRAPBOOK PAGES :) I also did several DVDs for presents this Christmas using digital scrapping. I am not great, but I WILL get better. I am making my list and checking it twice :) My daughter-in-law is probably coming as well.
And we are BOTH bringing chocolate.

omgoodness! i can now tell my daughter i know the REAL cinderella!!!! she'll freak! and just 2 weeks ago, she blew a kiss to my daughter in a parade, and my lizzie felt like the only girl there. course we were in disneyworld in florida, but she'll never know!
and chocolate too, welcome formbygirl!!!!! :D

01-17-2007, 01:00 PM
OOo, FormbyGirl - what awesome photos and pages! Your daughter is a beautiful Cinderella!!!
Oh Meryl!!! We appreciate all the effort and torture you will undergo to get here! When I flew to Botswana (via Jo-Berg), that was THE WORST flight ever. I thought flying to France was bad...but dang! I have to say, though, the bath I took soon after my arrival was pretty much the best one I've ever had! :) I think what saved me on the flights was bringing clothes to change into and out of during layovers. Then I felt somewhat "clean"!!!! Good luck!!!
Lauren - I'd go with the advice of layers. I was just thinking, "wouldn't it be funny/horrible if the weather changed suddenly and it was HOT that weekend?" but then I did actually think, "Well, Lauren said she likes to shop!" So I'd dress in layers...usually I'm good in jeans and a sweatshirt at Disneyland at night...but lately I've added a few more layers! :)
And Margie...or whoever first mentioned flying mice...of course I had visions of my pets flying through the air. An odd thought indeed! Yes...I'm a little slow...
I keep telling everyone I know about "DSP Weekend" in far more detail than I'm sure they care about. And I keep telling them about how it is 10 times better than meeting movie stars!!!!
So hurry up and get here already!!!!:yahoo:

Hey, thanks for making me so welcome. I've been in Denver on business the last couple of weeks and have been pretty sick. This has cheered me so much and given me something to look forward to. I'm heading home to California today.
And thanks for all your compliments about Karen. She is a lovely Cinderella, isn't she. If she is Cinderella the day we are all there, she can wave to us :)
I'm looking forward to meeting everyone.
Tara - I don't see that you have purchased your registration yet. You'd better hurry!
Yeah - I'm waiting to get paid! Christmas and school registration kind of wiped me out!

Can you go? We have to get together and make some ATC (Artist Trading Cards?) to exchange with other people while we are at the crop. Yay! I can't wait. A whole day of just having fun, no responsbilities, unlimited chocolate!!

My parents both worked for Disney and I was Wendy in the Christmas parade when I was 12. I'll show you the photos at the crop! We also have annual passes and Im looking forward to a great time and yes I do hope to learn as I am pretty new at this too!

Ok - I accepted the challenge and made my first ATC - and only my 3rd LO ever. It was lots of fun and I used the opportunity to teach myself new things - I tried to depict my dual heritage - I was born and raised in Iowa but my children are all Ethiopian so I feel more like an Iowan-Ethiopian. I have been experiementing with my tablet and drawing artwork - boy I hope I can learn some easier ways to turn my doodles into graphics - yikes you would laugh at the complexity I used and I just know there is an easier way. I also finally learned how to use the Ethiopian language font I downloaded - that burned a few neurons out let me tell you. So I am wiser today than yesterday - miles to go before I sleep.
See you in Anaheim.
BTW - do we need a ticket or are we on some "list"? I registered on line.
Thanks for looking.

It's a date :) She was "On the Ropes" on the Lion King Float yesterday. You can see her on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_RIqtEXo1M. I also added the pictures from this (done appropriately as Digital Scrapbooking Pages) on her website http://www.silers-alley.com/kds under the Bird link. Be sure to scroll down.
Speaking of adding her web pages as Digital Scrapbook Pages. What does everyone use Digital Scrapping for OTHER than photo albums. I use for my web pages, family videos, Christmas cards (email and printed), calendars and various other gifts. There's such a huge world of great things to do with this stuff. I hope we are all ready to share ideas of what else can be done with Digital Scrapping....

ohh, Thanks Sandy, I'll add that to my packing list!
Samara - you are too funny! But mine aren't done yet either and I think the ATCs are first come, first serve too....I'm planning on getting there really early to nab some of Lauren's laminated ones! :)
Today was supposed to include "make my ATC" time...but I took a really long nap instead! :)
I did cross one thing off my list though: REGISTER FOR THE CROP (yes, I am slow)

I did it! Her is my ATC. What a change to actually crop something with my picture on it. Sturggling with printing the pages to bring though - got them all uploaded at Costco and they say the resolutin is too low. Its at 300dpi for a 12x18 page. they're suggestion is much lower.. should I order it anyway?
Ack - pages to show! I forgot about that too. Rats...now when will I find the time to do that...or the money?!!! Egads...better get out of the forums and get busy!!! :)

Hmmmm...I bet you can all guess 1 thing about my DATC...okay, I bet you could actually guess at least 4 things that will be on it...but as for seeing it, nope, nu uh, not yet! :)

Well I have been laughing my way through this forum... I love Swiss chocolate (shhhh - I am descended from a family of Belgium Chocolatieres) but also LOVE South African Chocolate. Have to admit I was a bit disappointed when I was in the USA and tried chocolate... but then its what you are used to, perhaps Americans would try ours and find it too sweet and rich?
Tara and all of you with your DATC's - please remember to give a copy to Meryl (geez better make a note to ask Meryl if she won't mind - lol) and say its for MANDY!!!!

Yep....June bought EVERYTHING....then she shared it all with the rest of us who are unable to make it to Anaheim. LOLOL
LOL - you guys are funny! It *almost* pains me to tell you that Meryl and Lauren and Kim (but not Lisa 'cause she needs extra money to keep her new pool running) will be offering all of us attendees a free copy of every new product they put out between now and Dec. 31st. But your sale sounds really exciting! Really, it does! :)

well, i can tell you are in instant pain, orange you tara? but, its only because your nose is growing....! but, in addition to ninety percent off....we got every fourth kit for free....so, i am sure we came out ahead by staying home, especially if you consider what we saved on airfare. and, i hate to tell you this, but that is not really mickey mouse. that is a dummy of mickey mouse. mickey had to retire when he turned fifty.

ROTFLOL.....Well, they weren't yet 50, but the 2 mouses that were in the cabinet under my kitchen sink had to "retire" too.....Permanently!!!!! That's what they get for liking peanut butter.....LOLOL. Ewww....
Oh no! Sandy has taken this thread in an entirely different direction...and a rather gross one at that.
Airfare? Airfare?! I practically live inside of Disneyland...no airfare! :)

In 2006 looks like they did one each in Nevada and Chicago. Maybe they will add another for 2007 and 2008, but this site only showed a date in Anaheim for these years.......

It was SOOOO fun!! :yahoo: This was my very first crop ever and you have now set the standard - excellent. I did actually get one page done, but I loved walking around meeting people and chit-chatting with everyone-that was more important. Oh yes - the chocolate was everywhere and YUMMY. Now that I have faces to put with names you'll see me more around here!

I had a great time yesterday. I just saw the pictures of everybody. Too bad I had to leave a bit early. This is the first time that I attend this type of crops. It was wonderful meet everyone. I felt like all of us were part of a big family. I can't wait for the next one. Thanks again!
Gossip like "OMG! Did you know Margie's hair is actually purple?!" or "Samara is actually a man?" (okay, don't know where that came from...Samara doesn't look like a man...but what if she - or he - was posing as a female, using his wife's picture as an avatar...okay, I'm getting looney now, I better stop!)
I'm going to cry now that Moderator McCoy won't be there  We will try to have fun without you!
Update:
Margie's hair is NOT purple.
Samara is not a man.
But Amanda does dance on tables... (and apparently so does my boyfriend!)
Oh yeah - can we get an Anaheim Gallery? It would be so fun to have one place to go to see everyone's pics and layouts from our fun, fun weekend.
I still can't believe I got to meet all of you! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEiiiiiiiii!!!!

I had the most amazing time at the Anaheim Laptop crop. At one point during my day I just stood back and enjoyed the wonderful aura that was dancing around the room. I thought to myself what is the key ingredient that unites this diverse group of women? Is it their love of photos, journaling, digi techniques, and all things scrappy? And then I thought no it’s much, much more…We all get it! “IT” being “LIFE“! We get that it’s all about the little everyday things as well as the big… We get that it’s about love, caring, giving, sharing, friends and family. Our scrap booking is how we choose to share it with others… I love being a scrapper. I love scrappers, and I love DSP…. I know I am being a bit sappy… I can‘t help it…I just had the nicest time & discovered that not only is scrapping wonderful but SCRAPPERS are simply the NICEST people… Thank you DSP team and members for a truly beautiful thing! I loved meeting everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
