Fandango Challenge 1/8-14/07

Let's do WOW this week, guys!!! For the new year, let's go back to the very basics of freestyle principles and create an absolutely TREND-SETTING (yes, totally swiping that term, but that is one of my fave things about freestyle STYLE!) layout.

Your freebie is a set of papers that you can use to build your layout (and probably many other projects - at least that's my hope!)!!

The basics I would love for us to pay attention to are the following:

1. Freestyle has roots in collage style art. Putting together TONS of different elements in unusual and unexpected ways. Putting paper and "metal" together, or fabric with the paper and metal. Stitching is cool, too...

2. White space is important. Or the lack thereof! Freestyle layouts usually have some unusual compositional elements. Like a ton of white space, or none at all... Or photos grouped tightly with a bunch of elements and the rest of the "canvas" free.

3. The use of fonts is key in freestyle elements. And journaling. Be it whimisical or very deep thoughts, choose your words and your fonts with care.

4. Doodles, brushwork and other unexpected extras are another piece of freestyle fun. Use brushes right on top of your photos or to frame and/or call attention to your focal points.

So. Your assignment is to post a layout (beginning with the Basic Whites BackPack paper set) that is absolutely WOW freestyle. Use whatever products and photos you wish, but make it something that we want to click on from the gallery - a total OH MY GOSH, THAT IS AWESOME layout. Different - not something we'd see anyplace else. Let's wwwwwooooooooooowwwwwwwwww the WORLD, girls!!!

Contest ends 1/14/07 at midnight EST.

Following the entry deadline, I'll ask Team Digital to select their favorite 10, and we'll vote here in the fandango forum next week for our top 3, who will win an extra prize!

I just love these basic whites papers - I am going to have to enter a couple of times this week as I started playing with a completely different set of photos to what I intended and it ended up with 'white space' so I kept it - but really want to go back and play with my original idea now.

I am going to give a try explaining this to you. I am not great at technical lingo but here goes. Anyone else please feel free to jump in here. On the gallery page on the right hand side it says upload photos. Resize your layout to less than 125mb or it wont upload. A window comes up asking certain questions. Where is says dsp members gallery a small drop down menu comes down when you click on the little arrow. Pick freestyle fandango and that will put it in the right gallery. Also there is a place for challenges on the next window. Name your layout click submit and the next window comes up for descriptions of layout, credits for the kits used etc. Fill all this out and click submit and hopefully that will get your layout posted. Then come back here and link your layout to this spot. When you click on your layout copy the page url and paste it here. Hope this helps somewhat.
