Hi,
Does anyone know how to make a diagonal striped background for Christmas layouts. I have tried to use gradients which is good, but I want a background with tiny stripes. Red background, dark red stripes upper left corner to lower right corner and green stripes upper right corner to lower left corner. If I can find a way to do this it would be easy to change colors for other backgrounds. The real problem is to make tiny stripes, say 1/16 of an inch.

Thank you for considering this problem. Any suggestions are welcomed.

The real problem is to make tiny stripes, say 1/16 of an inchCustom pattern. Without knowing what software you're using, I can't give specifics, though. PS, PSP, and PSE all have an offset filter you can use.
Make a square document, tiny, and zoom way in. Make a 45 degree stripe from corner to corner, then run the offset filter on it so it creates a "wraparound" in the other two corners. The settings will depend on the size stripe you use.
Then in PSP just choose that document as your pattern in the Materials Palette, or PS/PSE go to Edit>Define Custom Pattern and fill a big document with it to see if it's right/seamless. I make mine black and white, then paint the color I want and save as a new pattern.
PSP has great pattern-making ability as its easy to open the file and change the color (it's just saved as a pspimage file in My PSP Files folder), and easy to change the angle and scale of it in the Materials Dialog. Mush easier to edit and change than PS/PSE

I'm sorry, I failed to include that. I'm using Photoshop 7. In fact I'm not sure what all the acronymns stand for.

Too many acronyms, too many Ps, LOL!

In PS 7, make the square document, make the diagonal stripe, then use Filter>Other>Offset filter (I think both are at 100%...) to get the wrap in the two opposite corners.

Then resize as desired, Image>Resize to make it large or small. Save the image as a PSD file so you can use it again to change the size or colors.

Edit>Define Pattern
Then choose the Paint Bucket Tool and set the fill to Pattern in the Options Bar at the top of the screen. Your new pattern will be the last in there.

Let me know if this makes sense! Hopefullay all that PSP stuff in the previous post will help someone
