View Full Version : Adding "holes" to a page

I just completed one of my first layouts using the first layout tutorial (using PSE 4). One of the things I had trouble with was that I was using a "stick pin" element, and couldn't quite get the holes that would be in a real paper layout to look right. Any suggestions for how to get that to look realistic?
(My attempt is in the gallery: http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=157450&limit=last7 )

I think what is throwing you off is the shadows. They are too big and too harsh on the other "stuff" on your layout and you need more on the pins - but very soft :)
Great job on your first layout!

I agree with amanda. I think you need to soften your shadows. Then to make it more realistic you will need to use your dodge and burn tool to make the part where it would go through the paper lighter (dodge) and the edges darker (burn). There is a great tutorial on folding ribbons in the tutorial section that I used to practice my dodge burn. I also started out by looking at the real thing and then seeing were the highlights and shadows fall. Pm if you need more help.
