So I use The Font Thing for my fonts- I know how to install them but how do you uninstall? Also, if you want to go back and install an uninstalled font, how do you do that.

I have a lot of fonts that I tried to uninstall that have little red circles with an X in it next to the font- it did uninstall it but how do I go back and re-install it?

Thanks!
Amber

no help here, sorry. there was an easy uninstall i think, but i uninstalled a lot (i thought) then it turned out i was deleting them all. not liking that! so i just went back to hp fontsmart when i wanted to uninstall. no idea in font thing if you can uninstall without removing them. in fontsmart, it just sends them to another folder, but font thing actually deleted them. but no time to investigate further, so i just gave up for now. hopefully a font thing knower will help us both! i know there are a bunch here. I agree with Margie it does seem to delete them - strangely I also remember the red circles, but even they have dissappeared - maybe because I had to do a major clear out of tem files today? Sorry to say that it does not look as though you can re-install........... not much help I'm afraid! Take care, Meryl

I dont use the font thing anymore ( use another programme which I love called the Font Lister - but I think rather than install the fonts you load them and then when you close the programme they just unload automatically - that way you dont actually install the fonts ( the programme just installs them temporarily while it is open) - if you actually choose the install option and uninstall you are physically deleting the fonts

I use the font thing exclusively. When you uninstall the fonts it does delete them. I keep a copy of all of my fonts in another folder. When I install a font it just makes a copy of it and loads it into the windows fonts folder...so when I uninstall and it deletes it...no worries...cuz i still have the copy in my "my fonts" folder. Does that make sense?

ohhhhhhhhh, well duh! i keep mine in a separate folder as well, but i've installed many of them long ago and don't have ALL of them in the separate folder, just new ones. but that can quickly be fixed, can't it?! thanks! Ü

Amanda- That does make sense! I have all of my fonts in another folder too. I was just hoping there was an easier way to re-install fonts without having to go to the folder and install them all over again.

Is there anyway to get rid of the fonts in the main window that have the red circle with the x in it once deleted?

Like Amanda, I have all my fonts in a folder in My Files so they're not deleted when I need to redo Windows...ask me how I know! Used to keep 'em in the Windows font folder, bad plan!

In the Font Thing, there are 3 tabs: Installed, Collections, and Browse. I have my Fonts folder as the default for browse, so I can easily surf back and forth from installed to browse to see what I got. Install from the Browse tab, uninstall in the Installed tab to keep the browse folder intact.
Dunno about the red X, never seen it!

Wow Emma - thanks so much - now that I look at it it is really so obvious.......... your advice works brilliantly! Now to de-clutter my windows font file! Take care, meryl

Emma,
Can you tell me how you made your My Fonts folder your default for browsing? Can't figure out how to do that!

I think it just uses the last folder open as the default. Since I only use one folder, it just opens that one upon launching TFT.

LMK if this isn't the case for you. I remember being frustrated awhile back having to hunt down the folder every time and forgetting where it was a lot (buried). But I may have had two different places to keep things and had to keep switching.

So just go to the folder in Browse, exit tFT, and see if it's the same when you come back in.

Did anyone ever figure out why some defaults to their last folder and some don't. I have to find my folder everytime I load TFT. I would love it to default to the last folder!

Well I must have an odd version TFT... I use my C:/Fonts folder, all 676 are there. I just click the Install button when I want one, and Uninstall when I don't, but it doesn't delete them, they are all there to be installed/uninstalled indefinitely! I do, of course, have a complete back-up of the Fonts folder, but it works like a dream for me... Which is of absolutely no help really, is it? Sorry...
